PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course

A beautiful day for golf in sunny La Quinta. The course is in excellent condition. Nothing really to find fault with. The biggest downer was that the driving range was closed for an event. There was a stage set up on the range. Could only utilize the practice putting green. I guess it’s always good to call the course directly before heading out. A group two groups ahead of us slowed things down. We teed off about 1230 and didn’t finish till after 5. Marshals and beverage cart were around on the front nine but absent on the back. This seems to be the norm everywhere since the virus even though golf is booming. Some reviewers may not like the layout of the course but it is a favorite of mine. Challenging enough for a 17 handicaper. Hole 17 is about as tough a par 4 as you can find with plenty of risk to challenge yourself.

Course condition was good pace of play tends to be slow but overall fun course

Pete Dye Dunes course in great shape. Greens very accurate. Challenging course but fun.

Sad that $61 only gets you 9 holes in La Quinta but that’s the new reality these days.

We had a great time.Course is tough for low teen handicappers, but we know Pete’s designs are challenging.

Our golf cart died between 9 and 10 but a pleasant gentleman showed up within 5-10 min after we called with a new one. (Apparently new carts are coming soon!)

A fun course that doesn’t seem to be too challenging, until you get into the rough and you figure that it’s pretty thick. Test your abilities for fairway golf and deep bunkers Have a great experience.

Probably wouldn’t play this course again. From the club house this looks a great a great track. But it’s mostly thru a development, the last 3 holes good. Too much money for the round play Desert Willows

So let me say first that we only played front 9 in a twilight round, so didn't see it all, but green fee was great. Also, we are duffers so played shorter tees.

The holes we played were basically 9 straight holes (no dog legs) with wide fairways. The challenge sarts when you get within 40 yards of the pin. Greens are small and challenging and guarded by numerous bunkers and deep depressions in mounds.

In summary, 9 straight holes is boring for all levels of golfer. Extremely difficult greens, etc make it difficult to unpleasant for a novice or duffer.

Finally, course layout criss-crosses itself with minimal signage. If this seems like I am going on and on, the staff give you a 10 minute instruction at the first tee so you don't get lost.

Pete Dye is one of the greatest golf architects, but this was a swing and a miss. Mountain course is a little more money but well worth it.
