PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course

The view from the clubhouse with the overseeded mountain & dunes course against the mountains is breathtaking. The Dunes course is only completely overseeded on the clubhouse side of the wash passthrough. Hole's 2 - 14? are overseeded only on tees, fairways and greens. The brown areas had more grass than Indian Wells and was a little more playable. Where the rough was overseeded, it was pretty deep and thick. Greens rolled well but were very hard and not much would stick. Nice day and met a great couple from Ireland that played with us.

The Dunes has an excellent and challenging lay-out which in particular demands excellent green shots on small mostly elevated greens. If you have a good score for the 16 first holes, everything can go wrong on the signature 17th and a tough 18th. It is always a great pleasure to play the Dunes.

No food available on Dunes Course and there were paper signs to lead you around the course.

Course is in great condition. Has the pga west grebe fairways and 1st cut and brown grass rough. Greens nicely rolled and true

The course is great & in good shape. Everybody that works there is friendly enough (shout out to the bag drop guy & 1 of the marshalls who were great). No drink cart when I played.

Here’s my take:

We were paired in a 4some w/a walking 2some. Dunes course has some distance between holes. On hole 5 we ditched them & jumped hole 6 w/a 3some on the green. We played in 3 hours total because a tournament left the course ahead wide open. As a fast golfer, dream come true.

Hole 17 is very hard. Holes 8 & 11 are hard. Every other hole is straightforward. Tees were up from what I was used to & made the game more scoring friendly for a 13 handicap..

Found course to be in much better condition than last year!! Prices getting way too spendy at PGA West!!

The Dunes Course at PGA West is very challenging with multiple elevation changes and numerous large, deep bunkers and the wet conditions made for a tough round. The layout is magnificent and you’ll have to bring your “A” game to score well.

What a great value for afternoon play! It got dark and pretty windy before we were able to complete all 18 holes but we really enjoyed our round, and lunch before, at this beautiful course. We’ll definitely be back to get a full round in !

Enjoyed the layout. Fairways are not overly wide but the dormant grass is easy to play from. So no pressure to hit the fairways but the water hazards will keep you honest.!

Smallish green make it a good test of iron play.

Fairways and greens in great condition although there were a lot of old ball mark damage on the greens that were smooth to putt over. Of course there are always unrepaired fresh ball marks that far to many players don’t repair. That applies to all public courses though.

Nice vistas around the golf course too..!

Some tees were hard to find. Course direction signs were made of paper. Very tacky. For what they charge there should be nicer direction signs.
