PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course

Looking forward to playing the course for the first time. Get there and the clubhouse is in complete shambles being redone...disappointing but I understand the update had to happen sometime. Course was in OK shape but rather windy. Wish i would have picked a different course for my one chance to go while I was out there.

Ok so I hit a bad shot on the 12th hole that landed on someone's house, the resident came out which I apologized to him and he insisted I give him $20 for a tile I broke I told him I would talk to the pro shop and pay them if it was required he didn't like that I didn't want to frustrate the other players in my group so I gave him $20 the Marshall drove up after I gave the 20 and told us he is a crook and is known for doing this and we should never pay any money to the residents. I just thought I should share this.

Course was in phenomenal shape. Gives you constant beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, especially the last 5 holes. First 15 holes are a nice mixture of short to medium length par 4 and 5. Final few holes are challenging.

We booked a round of golf for 16 people, but 2 were able to make it to Palm Spring due to the Southwest issues. My wife didn’t read the cancellation policy clearly. 14 of us checked in that morning and started our round and around the fifth hole one of the attendants comes up to me a states that 2 of our players didn’t pay there greens fees. In truth, he was hustling us for the 2 no shows. Now I’ve played on courses across the country and other than PGA tournament courses, if I had a large party of 6 or more where one or two players didn’t make it never experience anything like this. It was disappointing. To add great insult , the fact that the attendant wasn’t upfront and say what the truth was was disturbing. Along with this we played the Dunes course and the beverage cart only sits in one spot, doesn’t provide any hot beverages on a cold and rainy day, and when playing the Dunes you don’t come back pass the clubhouse after the turn.

Very nice course , good condition. Wide open fairway. But green were very fast. Only complaint was waited to long to get in the gate (25 minutes waiting time ). So you must go there as early as you can, otherwise you may miss your tee time.

A very forgiving course

Had a 645 teatime at check-in. They told us there was a frost delay and it would be approximately 30 minutes. So we paid had some breakfast. Course looked fine.( and they were mowing the fairways and greens) then we were told there was another frost delay and another finally teed off at 8:30. If staff was upfront that it could be a couple hour delay, we would have played somewhere else. We played Red rock on the 18th it was colder and the frost delay was half the time.

At golfnow rate it was good value for the quality of the course.

Overall experience was positive, including great weather course confditions and amenities like range, etc. Played in 4 1/2 hours as we learned that one group a few ahead of hours was 2 holes behind at one point which impacted our speed of play. Not a major inconvenience but other than this we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play the course.
