Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.

This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.

That is just part of the reason this course totes a 128 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.

There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.

Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Condition of course

The greens were the worst greens I have played on in this area, no 100 or 150 markers, minimal water on the course and starter.

Weird

Strange layout, very weird green configurations and overall quirkiness. Condition were only fair, bunkers terrible. I’m actually sorry I chose to play it.

Power cart broke down

Very nice fairways and true greens. Unfortunately we had a breakdown with our power cart on the 15th . we had to pack everything and carry our clubs til we got a hold of the pro shop after 6 calls ,however we finally got a response. disappointed on not getting any quicker on the phone , they did come with another power cart. After dropping the power cart off I did talk to the pro shop guy and told him my ordeal , And he asked what time it was this happened? And I wasn’t sure what time .Also He mention that they shut down after 4 o’clock.

Just a suggestion !! Have a more reasonable response on any problems or emergencies that can arise with golfers still on the golf course after 4pm , Good news is I was told that they are getting new golf carts

Overpriced

Worst condition I have seen this course in. Lots of bare spots and never a good lie in fairway. Greens way too slow and bumpy. Nice layout but terrible conditions.

A beautiful course

A beautiful course with some water and lots of sand traps. The course was in fantastic condition as were the greens. The staff was friendly from the moment I arrived until I left in the layout of the course was very manageable. I look forward to playing there again in the future.

Need to Mow the Grass

Overall the grass on all portions of the course was way too long. We played with a couple of older gentlemen and they struggled to locate balls off the fairway. The least fairway roll of any course we have played recently. I know everybody wants resort length fairways but this was absurd. Maybe we are too used to the un-overseeded courses in San Diego this time of year. The greens were beyond slow. Tough to putt well when each putt has to be hammered. There are better choices at better prices in the Coachella Valley.

Slow Greens, Long Rough

Course knowledge would help when playing the course. 1st hole requires a layup that you can't see from the tee and then a shot over water. The greens are big and very very slow. Fairways are fairly generous, but if you miss them, the rough is pretty thick and tough to play out of. The green on #7 is 75-yards from front to back in a Y-shape. The 11th hole is a dogleg par 5 that you need to pick your line off the tee carefully. Finishing holes were into the wind and several with water-carries. If the rough were shorter and greens faster, it would be a lot better.

Desert Falls

Course in very good shape. Too many geese on 3-4 holes create some challenges.

Mow your grass

Super bowl Monday. Not sure if all employees had Sunday & Monday off. If that’s the case, adjust your green fees accordingly. Nothing had been mowed for awhile.

intresting course

Great layout. Primary rough needs trimed down by 2 inches. Greens held and were true but only running at about 8. Traps were average. Nice $100 course compared to others in the valley. Not worth playing for $135 however..Downside was no snack bar open, no water on the course, no beverage cart, Might play it again with a deal.
