Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
About
The Galleon/Brigantine Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses at the club. Galleon/Brigantine has a rating of 72.7, with a slope of 133 from the championship tees.
The original nine holes - Galleon - meander through large oak and tall pines. Accurate placement of approach shots into heavily guarded greens is necessary on this nine.
Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.

Asphalt Disaster
Upon arrival we were directed to the driving range to park because of parking lot major parking lot construction. We were not able to warm up because we parked on the range. We had to ask for water. We were instructed to play cart path only. After getting to the first green we discovered they had been recently aerated. The course had and greened had not been cut. I went to the pro shop after the round and ask if they could do anything for us because of all the issues and the kid working the desk said there was nothing they could do. Be better Shipyard embarrassing!!
Golf
Sorry to say a ration on the course made it for a less than ideal round. The layout is great the restaurant was closed but the staff and on course officials are amazing
Great time
I always enjoy playing here when Im down from NY, never had a bad experience, always matched up with friendly people and I think the value is well worth the money
Good course
Course in good shape for mid-July and 90+ deg.
A few greens may have had a few bad spots but nothing to be concerned about. Some people expect Tour conditions for $100. Go take your son or friend and play golf and have fun 👍
Great Experience
Had a blast with my Son. He is a beginner and told me this was his favorite part of the vacation. The course layout allowed both of us to have an enjoable experience. Will definitely come back to play again on our next visit.
An enjoyable afternoon
We played in the afternoon on a hot day when we thought there might not be too many others in front of us, but we were wrong. One of the players was frustrated by having to wait on most holes to hit. But it was a memorable afternoon of golf on HHI, so who can complain?
Pace and conditions.
Pace was slower than normal. Just under 5 hours. Conditions were really good. Some areas had new sod laid especially in some of the approach areas. I know with conditions and heat down here it happens. We took relief where we could to chop or putt to the greens.
A Very Challenging Course
Played Galleon-Clipper course from the green tees (5400+ yards) and I thought it was the hardest course I played in the area. Used fairway/hybrids on 13 approaches hitting only 6 GIRs. Plenty of doglegs which added to the length of the holes. Shot in the mid 80's which was lower than the 90 degree temps. Layout was great but did not see any gators that we were warned about.
Nicely Done
One of three courses was closed & they crammed the players into two courses.......thereby the slow play rating. Teed off 1/2 late, stood on #2 tee for another 1/2. Total round +5.5 hours.
BUT....course itself was very good. Staff was very good......really like the Pro Shop crew. Did get a bag of range balls to warm up. Would go back.
FYI, Much better than Port Royal course.
Enjoyed the round
I love the Shipyard course. It’s challenging but fair. The only negative is the price. The course might get more play if the price was a little lower.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your experience further and attempt to resolve it to your satisfaction.
