Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
About
The Galleon/Brigantine Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses at the club. Galleon/Brigantine has a rating of 72.7, with a slope of 133 from the championship tees.
The original nine holes - Galleon - meander through large oak and tall pines. Accurate placement of approach shots into heavily guarded greens is necessary on this nine.
Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.

Golfer from CT
Unfortunately it was a very wet and windy day, but we knew what we were getting into when we arrived at the course. Layout is great, starter and cart men were very friendly and the Brickyard Pub was excellent. Looking forward to coming back when not so wet.
Professional staff
Nice layout. The staff was as helpful as possible. The grass was still dormant, but I believe that once it warms up, that everything will be fine. The traps were well maintained. Landscaping was being done around the edges of the course, mainly with the overhanging tree branches. This was good.
mschmalhurst - thank you for making taking note that the tree work we are currently in the process of will enhance the turf conditions and playing corridors.
They really keep up on the maintenance to keep the golf course in good shape for its patrons.
Thank you for your nice comments Hondo!
very nice golfing experience
Great and welcoming staff all around. Greens were in excellent shape and nice and quick. The fairways were winter-like, lots of tight lies. Overall in reasonably good shape.
Thank you for your 4 star review. See you again soon!
Excellent Condition
We’ve been traveling to Hilton Head for almost 20 years and play golf there regularly. This was our first time playing Shipyard. We played Brigantine and Galleon, which are the shorter of the 3 nine-hole courses. Both were in great shape with very fast greens but they are relatively easy courses.
pleasantly surprised
have been to HHI many times, including 3 3 month stays
shipyard was NOT on the courses selected because of poor maintenance/traps/tee blocks.
Between missing covid years(2021-2) until now and new course management
really impressed with course conditions, staff was wonderful (starter Ed)
We are honored to be on the "surprise" list. Thank you!
Pace of play ruined the day
Course staff were friendly and the course was in great shape for the off-season. If pace of play is this poor during slow season I can’t imagine spring, summer, & fall. There wasn’t anyone monitoring or enforcing speed of play. We had 3 players on 3 different tee boxes and we were still waiting every hole. We only managed to play 12 or 13 holes in almost 4 hours!
We truly apologize for pace of play affecting an otherwise enjoyable day.
Look forward to seeing you again on a prettier day!
