About
Situated between Greenville and Spartanburg, Willow Creek Golf Course is a favorite course amongst many area players. The course has a classic layout that starts out gently with a player-friendly front nine but then becomes much more challenging on the back nine. The layout is a seemingly mild 6,890 yards from the back tees but it can feel longer because of all the elevation changes you'll encounter. It's a golf course that will appeal to beginners but advanced players will also enjoy the many risk-reward opportunities that can be found throughout. Water hazards come into play on eight holes and there is a slew of strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The par-5 fifth hole is Willow Creek Golf Course's signature. This 516-yard hole tumbles across rolling hills with a stream that cuts right through the fairway.

Slow start
I have played the course many times over a few decades. So I know the drill.
This time many golfers including myself were frustrated because of lack of carts and a delay I was told about due mowing the greens concurrent with the first tee times. This was definitely not good on what was arguably the best golf day of the new year- sunny,70F, and not cart path. Better management and flow control was needed. They should at least offered comp range balls while our foursome waited on the half-hour + delay. New range balls are sorely needed too.
Course was on good shape for winter. Layout is good. Greens rolling well.
Excellent Course
Always in great shape. Greens roll true with great pace.
Slow day.
Pace of play ruined the round. Took 3 hours to play 9. Ridiculous. Marshall did nothing about it when he was told. They waaaay overbooked today. I know everyone needs to make money but c'mon. That's ridiculous.
Holes are pretty far apart, but well marked. Fairways in great shape. Greens quick like a seal in an oil slick.
Wet conditions, hard fairways
Not a bad local course, but seems they need to do some drainage worn around the greens. They were very wet (soggy) to where it was hard to play any chip shot around the greens. Fairways were mostly hard as a rock, so it seems they need to do some reallocating of the watering.
Starter on this day was too busy smoking to let us know we needed to go off on 10 instead of 1; so we ended up getting stuck behind mid-day foursomes after the turn.
Great course.
Look out for 16-18.
It's humbling.
