Rating 71.9

Situated between Greenville and Spartanburg, Willow Creek Golf Course is a favorite course amongst many area players. The course has a classic layout that starts out gently with a player-friendly front nine but then becomes much more challenging on the back nine. The layout is a seemingly mild 6,890 yards from the back tees but it can feel longer because of all the elevation changes you'll encounter. It's a golf course that will appeal to beginners but advanced players will also enjoy the many risk-reward opportunities that can be found throughout. Water hazards come into play on eight holes and there is a slew of strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The par-5 fifth hole is Willow Creek Golf Course's signature. This 516-yard hole tumbles across rolling hills with a stream that cuts right through the fairway.

The course is in great condition

The course was in excellent condition. Greens putted true and were slick. Pace of play was less than par,but I guess you will have that on a Friday. The course had a starter and a ranger, which is more than most public courses can say in the upstate. I will definitely be back.

TERRIBLE STAFF

I called up an hour early and asked if it was even ok if me and my golf partner were 20-30 minutes late and if they would push back our tee time at all, the guy who answered the phone politely said ok, and all was well… or so I thought, we get there and tell the guy at the desk the situation as we were golfing in Anderson as well before this and wanted to play 36 holes that day and we were running a quite late, the lady behind him jolts up, turns around and looks at the clock, I said “yeah we’re about 20-25 minutes late” to which she responds with “you’re actually 30 minutes late” I told her we called an hour ago but I don’t think it mattered if we called as soon as the sun rose because she complained to every single worker there was about us being late when there was nobody even waiting for us nor did we hold anybody else up!!

Only had 1side open -

First thing pro shop and outside folks were great and very friendly. Only had 1 side open of which we were told upon arrival so no issue. Problem occurs when people are completing the 9 that’s open and go to tee to start the second time around. They still had tee times every 8 minutes or so. This lead to folks making the turn and folks starting their round on the same tee box at the same time. I really like the lay out but the course can not handle this many people on the same side. We had an early tee time but trying to fit back in on playing our second nine was problematic.

Unfriendly staff.

Course is quality but staff is unfriendly, unwelcoming, give unclear instructions to a first timer with questions. Safe to say i don’t intend on returning or recommending it to any friends. Just a general high brow bitterness on the looks of the rangers and a pro shop employee who couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper sack on a golf course. The snack bar lady was sweet, you can spare her. She makes a heck of a club sandwich .

Course ok. Staff overbearing

I enjoyed the course and had a fun time at Willow Creek after we got started. To me the staff is a little overbearing. Check in was ok. The one guy in the clubhouse on a busy Friday was not overly friendly. But he did his job. The first starter checked us off and said we are starting play on the back today. We said ok. And five minutes before our tee time we drove over. One of us had teed off when another ranger drove over and told us it wasn’t our tee time. That we were 1050 and the 1040 group hadn’t went off yet. Well we had drove over at 1045 and there was no one on the hole. How were we to know? He wasn’t very nice about it. But the 1040 group told us to go ahead. They were waiting on another player. So our group finishes teeing off and before we get to the fairway ANOTHER DIFFERENT ranger stops us and tells us we are a hole behind! How can we be a hole behind buddy? We just teed off! Get it together. After that the round was fun. The course was in good shape. I did think the greens were VERY firm and did not hold a shot or pitch very well. But it was ok. It’s a fun layout. A lot of different holes. A few holes require less that driver and I would think that longer hitters could choose to hit less than driver on a lot of holes. Overall, a fun course minus the employees. I’d play there again. But it’s not on my list of must plays. I can save an hour drive and play near the house at River Bend or Deer Brook in Shelby NC for $20-$25 less than what they are charging and they are both in better shape.

Very nice layout

I have golfed here numerous times in the last 2 years and always enjoyed the course and the conditions. Staff is very friendly restaurant is nice but does close a little early (5.30) Great driving range and chipping area with separate practice green. Pace of play can be slow if a few groups of walkers are ahead.
