Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.

Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.

The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

They keep changing for the worse

Still my favorite course but they keep getting worse. There’s a girl who works in the clubhouse now and she is NOT friendly. There’s also now apparently a $25 cost if my girlfriend wants to ride in the cart with me. It’s summer… the place isn’t busy… why should I have to pay $25 for her to just ride along and watch?

Also there’s now a 4 drink maximum from the cantina. Oh and they have new carts that will shut off if you drive just slightly away from the hole. I was maybe 20 yards from the green and it shut off and the screen said that I was too far and needed to reverse back.

The course itself is fantastic but they must have new management because it’s gone way downhill in the past year.

Rough around the edges

This layout is not horrible but it is rough in places and the greens were slow. It is a good place to practice long game shots but miss a green by a few feet and you can be chipping off gravel or bare dirt. I will play there again because it is fairly inexpensive and not far from home but it isn't a golf course you want to play every weekend.

Cave Creek Golf Course

Golf course was okay. Tee boxes were alright but there was a lot of dead and muddy spots on the course. Greens were in good shape as well as the bunkers. There’s better golf around the area for about the same price. Also there’s a noticeable lack of cart paths

Cart guy at the end of the round was very friendly and interested in what I had to say, as I was interested in what he had say. I left there with a big smile. Excellent golf day thanks to the helpful people there.

Hidden gem

I’ve driven by this course over 100 times and never gave it much thought. That was an error. Very fun course with rolling hills and multi level greens.

Overall course was in decent shape for mid May. Greens rolled well and fairways were good.

I will be back again. This may even become my new home course.

Course is the best shape I've seen in years. They still can't figure out the 9th green though. The new carts with GPS are sweet!

Good Course For The Price

We had a good time and was worth the value we paid. Course was moderately challenging and the staff friendly. I would go back but wouldn't spend much more than $50 for a round.

Not a CA Municipal Course

Phoenix is now big enough to devote some money to the muni courses. The cart oaths are mostly dirt. Clubs, shoes and clothes are covered with dust at end. The greens need a lot if work. Tee boxes need to be leveled. The fairways were nice enough.

Staff friendly. Course not in great condition - depended on the hole. Ordering food from the cart set up did not work. Bring your own food and drink.
