Rating 71.8

Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.

Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.

The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

Slow and Patchy

This was my first time playing this course and the staff was friendly and nice. Then we got to the first tee box, I can’t understate this enough but you need a drill to get your tee into the ground. This was followed up by a slow pace of play and patchy greens which didn’t help. The layout of the course is interesting and the greens slope if you like a challenge especially when it comes to putting your tee into the ground. Spend the extra 15-30 for a course with better conditions, especially just coming out of prime season.

Worth the $$$ for sure!

Blue collar municipal course which was pretty challenging. Overall the course was in great shape. Some areas off to the sides needed a little TLC but overall I was very satisfied and would play here again for sure!

People don't understand golf etiquette

Waited every shot for 16 holes. People in front did not understand ready golf. Absolutely spoke to them and your worker. Ranger on first tee, but not on the course. Won't try course again. Came 2000 miles for that.

Better than expected

After reading reviews I was skeptical about the course. Yes the cart paths are not very good. The pace of play was good. As a foursome, we played in 4 hours 10 minutes, on the weekend. Fairways and greens were in good condition, but the rough was just desert. Lots of undulations on the greens. Overall, a good value for the money.

The fairways and greens were good. The pace of play was ok the first nine and slowed way down the second nine. Don't know if they added nine hole players that causing the slowdown. They also didn't mention the carts need to be in by 6:30 because they turn on the sprinklers. No problem if they let you know as you start your round at 2pm. Should have been done by 6:30, but with the pace of play we weren't.

Cart path

Several tee boxes were hard to get your tee in. Fairways and greens were in nice shape. The cart path when you could find it were the worse I’ve ever been on.

Some frustration

I enjoy playing Cave Creek but I always get frustrated when things back up at the par 3 seventh hole and the eighth hole as well. There were 4 groups on the par 3 and it shouldn’t be that way

Rough, partial grass and dirt, not much of a fairway

The cart ride was mostly bumpy on the dirt cart path, and there wasn't a lot to like, bless their little hearts. Not much to write about.
