About
Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.
Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.
The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

I arrived late because I mixed up my reservation days and they got me on right away,
Pace was good for the first nine but slow on the second.
Greens were fast and holes were put in tough spots but it was a great day out there.
I scored well and that also helped

Hit and miss
Fairways and greens are in good condition although no one repairs there divots on the greens, which is really too bad, and they need to have no carts with in 20 to 30 yards of the greens have a lot of idiots that drive right up to the greens. Fairways are so so they do have there rough spots but over all are not bad. The rough is really rough I’ll move my ball to a clump of grass before I destroy my club on a bunch of rocks.. cart paths basically none existing really really rough.
Over all it’s a good place to practice and for the dollar value it is decent.

Such a shame
I live across the street from this course and played it for the first time. From driving by it ended up being pretty much what I thought it would be. The bulk of the fairways and tees where in better than average shape, there were some neat holes, there are some nice views and that's where things stopped. I understand this is a municipal course, but it's a shame how close this course is to being really nice, but isn't. Pickup the trash. Fix the pot holes on the cart paths. Share what your cart path philosophy is. Explain what was drug across many of the greens multiple times (I assume while mowing) and scared them like they are. I have to assume it's a requirement to not know how to repair a ball mark - the greens were ridiculously marked up and pitted. EVERY starter should sett expectations with groups going out, 1.) maintain the pace of play - and if you don't we'll move you to the next hole to close the gap (but that also means having a ranger on the course), 2.) repair ball marks on the greens, 3.) replace/fill your divots, 4.) stay back from the greens with golf carts, 5.) help us out by picking up any trash you see and dispose of your own trash appropriately. I don't know if I'll play here again, but it sure would be nice to see the City (or the guy they're paying to manage it) put a little effort into cleaning this place up and show some pride!

Rough around the edges
Fairways ok condition, cart path and rough poor, rough was more gavel and garbage around course takes away from experience, group ahead slow so waited on every hole, staff in golf shop friendly folks. Overall rate good so comes down to you get what you pay for.

Course was rough
I can’t really complain much for a $35 city course, however, this course was in rough shape, fairways were decent, but there is no existing rough, it’s all hard pack dirt. Pace of play was terrible, seems they pack in too many groups on top of each other, at one point we were waiting for 2 groups to tee off ahead of us on the back 9 to which we were only able to get in 16 holes. Greens were meh, no one fixes pitch marks, on one green someone must have over shot because there was a divot on one. Plus tractor, or cart marks on the greens cause for interesting lines to read. I’ll probably wait to play here again. In Arizona, this course should be in prime condition but it looked like it was half finished
