Cave Creek Golf Course
About
Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.
Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.
The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

Almost 3 hours 9 holes
The pace was terrible, nobody could move. We all gave up after 9 holes. We should get half our money back. Just saying..
Good course bad pace
Played this course before twilight hours. Same yesterday. Had a good pace but group in front was two couples and somehow playing with them was a guy with a walking cart as well. So somehow had 5 people. They’d spent too much time chasing down shanks and lost balls. Need a court Marshall. Cart girl came by once. Other than that and the pace, nice course. Wasn’t able to finish due to them taking up too much time.
First and last time playing
Arrived at 2nd tee box as the 5th group on that hole. A ranger came through and said the whole course was backed up all the way through. So, I turned around and went to pro shop. Asked for refund. NO! How about something from the shop instead of the round…a hat, a couple of gloves…something for my money instead of the round? NO! But I will give you a 9 hole rain check…I played 1 hole, why only a 9 hole check? You payed a reduced rate (through Golf Now) so you didn’t pay enough for an 18 hole rain check!! Wow! So, they got that day’s golfing dollars from me in exchange for what? So, if that lines up with your view of proper enterprise on their part, go ahead and book a time…but bring a few magazines and a lunch….
Pleasant Surprise
With all the fancy, overpriced golf courses in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area, I didn't expect much from a $65 Muni. But after playing Aguila last year, another Phoenix muni that is a great course, I was keeping my fingers crossed. Bingo! Great fun layout, decent conditions, fast greens. Not quite as good as Aguila, which is probably the best bang for your buck in the whole area, but still a wonderful course that I would definitely play again.
Good value for the money
Interesting course, nice layout and the course was in excellent shape for a mini. The cart paths are pretty rough but that doesn't really take away from the round.
The canyons
Mixing pull carts with that topography is a disaster when extremely busy
Almost 2 1/2 hours to play first nine as too many folders with pull carts
Interesting Layout!
This was the first time playing CaveCreek. We enjoyed the layout. It was a great walking course nice to get a course to walk. Not as manicured as other course in Scottsdale but the price made it possible for us to get out and play. So many courses are way too expensive thus not playable! We really appreciated the quantity of the fairways and greens and will definitely play again. Played with two local golfers and enjoyed our afternoon.
Worst course in Phoenix
With all of the courses I could have chosen in the area, I am sad I chose this one. Layout is terrible. I guess it was built on a landfill. Conditions are lousy from cart paths to bare rocky ground. I won’t be returning.
Great course for the money
We play this course about once a month, and it keeps challenging us every time. The dry creek that runs through the course will swallow balls if your accuracy is off, and if you are not familiar with the course, the hidden water features are always a surprise. As for the greens, they are very fast in the late morning and early afternoon, but as soon as the sun drops behind the trees, the moisture works its way to the surface, and they slow down. Just be prepared for a sudden change in green speeds mid-round.
Quality muni
Not as good as Aguila, but this is a solid muni and a more fun track than Dobson or Kenny Mac.
