Decent value retirement course
I've played Oakwood a few times, and I'd say it's a combination of Dobson Ranch quality, with Ocotillo type water hazards. That's not a bad thing, as I like both of those places. At only 6500 yards from the tips, you can really shoot a good score out here if you're hitting it decent. If you're looking for a relaxing round where you'll probably shoot a good score, Oakwood is a decent option if you can get a price for something similar to what Dobson is charging.
Played Palms & Lakes
Nice resort styles course. Very playable and good condition. Water on many holes on both nines. Fairways and greens were in great shape but the bunkers (as with most courses) were lacking enough sand to be fair. Very affordable summer rates. Will return again.
Mundane
Al 3 nines are forgettable with similar length par 3s, short par 5s and boring par 4s. The pro shop closes at 5. The water available at the par 3s was clean, but not even cool.....add ice folks! The carts were not in very good shape, and had no coolers, commonly seen elsewhere. The range balls were very old while the hitting area had not been moved for perhaps a week. Sorry Oakwood, step up your game, because there is a llot of competition out there doing it better.
I enjoyed the day very much. Oakwood is a hidden jewel in the southern valley. I will come back when the opportunity arises.
Great Course
The fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Definitely want to play there again.
Will be back!
My wife and played the course for the 1st time and had a great time. It was a 8am shotgun start and the pace of play was perfect. We finished in under 4 hrs. The starter Buck was a complete gentleman. He paired us with 2 regulars and they were great guys.
We had lunch after and the food and ice cold draft IPA beer was very good.
We will be back for sure. Thanks.
Really liked this nob desert course
Very much enjoyed and everyone was very nice.
Golf in november
The course was well maintained. It was nice. Not a lot of hazards. From where we come from, it is priced out of this world...however, because of golfnow, we could play for $40 each.. I would not pay more.
Great course but customer service can definitely improve
Great course but customer service can definitely improve. We got to the course a bit early and The person at the pro shop kept referring to my online booking as a low fee booking in front of my guest and kept insisting that low fee bookings can only play at the time they booked for and not any sooner.
I have never run into such situation in the past where online booked customers get the second class citizen treatment.
Why not have more Hot Deals on the Good Track?!
Too many times I look for Hot Deals on this gem but don't see any. Often the course is empty and their management should see the 'lost revenue' of not advertising Hot Deals throughout the day.
very good course
Played Oakwood for the first time and was very impressed. We played the Lakes and the Palms combination that day. When we arrived at the course we found that it was cart path only. Had we known we would have walked but did not have our pull carts with us. Lots of water on the course, especially the Lakes nine. Course was in good shape. The fairways were perfect. I could not believe that we got the deal we did. At $13.00 it was the deal of the century. I would gladly pay $50.00. We played in under 4 hours. I would go back in a heart beat!
Great course!
Arrived for an 8 AM tee off - a little surprised that it was a shot gun start - over 100 people there. We were quite concerned that it would be a very slow pace of play - wow - what a surprise. They paired us with a couple of gents...and off we went. The pace of play was so fast that we finished in under 4 hours. The course was in excellent shape - everyone was lovely! We'll book it again!!!
Oakwood CC
We played the Lakes and the Sonoran. The Lakes was as the title said, a lot of water, The Sonoran was the easier of the 2 courses. We played from the Blues which came in just over 6000 yards which is just right for our ability. The course was in excellent shape for this time of year. The traps were well maintained, also. We were in the middle of a women's league but still finished in just over 3 1/2 hours due in part to a shotgun start. The staff was well organized. We would return but it is difficult to get a tee time, residents come 1st which we are not.
Oakwood
Rate was only $10 with cart! Teed off at noon. Only took 2.5 hours to play 18 holes. Greens were true but a little slow.
Love the risk/reward challenges on this course
Great course that offers great risk reward challenges and some subtle challenges you don't expect. One of my favorites.
relaxed Saturday round
We played Sat afternoon as a 2 some. The snow birds are starting to leave and we only had to wait on a couple holes. Oakwood has 3 nines We played the lakes and the Palms. The lakes went thorough a remodeling last summer and was good except the 2nd green which was completely redone and is not quite in shape. I have played here before and thought the overall was good and a good value, (especially in the afternoon) The greens held well and rolled ok. probably about a 8 + on the stimp.
Always a good value
Changes made over the past year have greatly improved the courses. conditions are generally fair to good depending, right now, quite good.
My normal beef is the sand traps which can be close to concrete or mud. Somewhat improved this season but could use an overhaul.
Greens in good shape, pace of play is fine, Lakes and Palms present more challenges than Sonoran.
0 amenities, they don't even run a coffee pot in the clubhouse, no beverage carts. BYO.
Nice course for the cost
Played somewhat difficult, but fair. Greens were very undulating.
