The Genoa Lakes Golf Club's Lakes Course brings water into Lake Tahoe-Reno golf. It's found on 14 of the 18 hole on the Lakes Course and it's not always nice tame water of staid old country clubs either. Sometimes you'll be shooting over near swamps with tall gnarly grasses poking out of them. That's the Lakes Course.

It's one of the more natural settings in an area known for its nature settings. You'll see cows along the border of the course - and birds will come flying up that you probably can't identify.

Lakes Course is a Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III design with rolling fairways, some tight shot openings and good views. It's 7,359 yards of golf with the Carson River and wetlands riding shotgun. It's located in Carson Valley, an often forgotten town, that's right inbetween the big gaming spots of Reno and Lake Tahoe. That makes Genoa Lakes Golf Club a pretty easy course to get to from most of the popular areas in the High Sierras.

Nice day of golf

Course overall and greens are in really nice shape. Staff as usual was very friendly and the carts are super clean. Value when getting the hot deal on GN make it worth playing. Only negative would be if paying full price $90 there are way to many T boxes on multiple holes that are in really bad shape and not being maintained to the standard the rest of the course is.

Course Needs Work - Forward Tee Boxes

My wife and I were very disappointed by the condition of the forward tee boxes at the Lakes course. Most had little if any grass. A facility of this cost and reputation needs to have at least average tee boxes for all golfers. Everything else about this venue is top notch but the course, including the forward tee boxes need to be pristine. I believe the standard rate is $110.

Genoa Lakes

The course is in solid shape for the end of April! The greens are way better than last year’s and should be fantastic as it heats up. The sand traps which have been inconsistent have been improved by more consistent and plentiful sand. There are still a handful of traps that are still too thin. The fairways are a bit spotty but should improve with heat. Around the greens is where the grass is most inconsistent but again hopefully the warm weather will improve this area. Overall, great course design and lots of fun to play.

No one was at the front desk when I got there. Waited about 15 minutes when I arrived to check in. The round came with a bucket of balls but the range was closed from 10:30-2::30/3:00. Then was told I couldn’t get a bucket of ball on a different day since the range was closed. Then was told that I couldn’t get a bucket on a different day since it was closed.

Great course slow play at times

Love the chorus but these guys are idiots letting five somes play. Usually guys playing for money and always super slow. The course says well they have to keep up with play which they do not. Yesterday there was no one in front of the five soon for four holes but we had about eight groups back up behind us

Great challenge

I played from the tips, only gripe all the gold tee boxes were in terrible condition. But I get it, we are just getting out of winter so I expect the course conditions not to be 100%. But other than the tee boxes, the course was in good shape. We did tee off late and the restaurant was already closed, which was a bummer

Must Play

This course is amazing. Nice wide fairways, beautiful mountains surrounding it, and very friendly staff. They didn’t have anyone assigning groups at the first tee so there was some confusion at the start, and it caused some slow play. I couldn’t finish because I ran out of time, but the Manager gave me a rain check. Definitely going back to play the back 9.

Beautiful course in the foothills of the Northern Sierra

Beautiful, reasonably priced golf course near the historic city of Genoa. The course was in good condition for March with great mountain views! I definitely recommend.

Challenging golf course with beautiful views.

Enjoyed around with my friends on a beautiful temperate day. The snow covered peaks round out the beautiful scenery. The greens are in good shape and most of the fairways are very good shape

Great way to spend a Friday afternoon...

Really liked this course. It's at the base of the Sierra's surrounding Lake Tahoe. It's amazing to play with the magestic mountains right there.

Mike was there to greet us and was there when we finished around 7pm. He was a very pleasant person. And we very much appreciated that!

The course was in very nice shape. It was early May so it wasn't quite yet all green, as some clubs in Reno are at this time of year. But it was still beautiful.

The 3rd hole is a killer. Ask about it at the club house. And listen to thier advice.

Anyway, had an amazing day golfing here.

Strongly recommend it!
