About

The Genoa Lakes Golf Club's Lakes Course brings water into Lake Tahoe-Reno golf. It's found on 14 of the 18 hole on the Lakes Course and it's not always nice tame water of staid old country clubs either. Sometimes you'll be shooting over near swamps with tall gnarly grasses poking out of them. That's the Lakes Course.

It's one of the more natural settings in an area known for its nature settings. You'll see cows along the border of the course - and birds will come flying up that you probably can't identify.

Lakes Course is a Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III design with rolling fairways, some tight shot openings and good views. It's 7,359 yards of golf with the Carson River and wetlands riding shotgun. It's located in Carson Valley, an often forgotten town, that's right inbetween the big gaming spots of Reno and Lake Tahoe. That makes Genoa Lakes Golf Club a pretty easy course to get to from most of the popular areas in the High Sierras.

Course was closed

Despite having a tee time thru GolfNow when I got there the course was closed, the place was locked up tight and there was no-one around.

No notice was posted anywhere explains why.

I can’t comment on the course.

Communication would be zero stars.

Pace of Play a Problem

A five hour round on a course might be expected on a nice summer day but during the winter on a 55 degree day with hardly anyone on the course is not.

The course was in good condition, the greens were fast and the weather was great for February.. Other than the aforementioned slow play, it was an enjoyable round

OK value for the price

Overall the course was not in good condition. About a third of the greens had partially bare areas that were extremely rough. They had a cart path only rule in place which made playing more difficult. The day before a 90 deg rule was in place. The marshal was kind of a jerk as he followed us through most of the round. Rather intimidating. Overall it was a fair price for the course. I would not pay more for the same conditions.

Beautiful, and Well Maintained

Just a few miles east of state line at Lake Tahoe's souther summit. Late fall is a great time to go, as it's on the mountain floor and less susceptible to fall freezes and early closure for the cold season. Or so I'm told. Fairways are in good shape. Greens are very well kept for this time of year. I got an 11:30 tee time. By then a popular course would have looked...well, used up. Not so here. Pro shop and restaurant are beautiful. Great experience...thanks!

Great Golf

We had a beautiful day at Genoa Lakes today. Warm fall weather with great views of fall leaves and snow capped peaks nearby. Course was in great condition and we finished in four hours.
