Lakes Course at Genoa Lakes Golf Club
About
The Genoa Lakes Golf Club's Lakes Course brings water into Lake Tahoe-Reno golf. It's found on 14 of the 18 hole on the Lakes Course and it's not always nice tame water of staid old country clubs either. Sometimes you'll be shooting over near swamps with tall gnarly grasses poking out of them. That's the Lakes Course.
It's one of the more natural settings in an area known for its nature settings. You'll see cows along the border of the course - and birds will come flying up that you probably can't identify.
Lakes Course is a Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III design with rolling fairways, some tight shot openings and good views. It's 7,359 yards of golf with the Carson River and wetlands riding shotgun. It's located in Carson Valley, an often forgotten town, that's right inbetween the big gaming spots of Reno and Lake Tahoe. That makes Genoa Lakes Golf Club a pretty easy course to get to from most of the popular areas in the High Sierras.

Nice course in good condition
First time playing the Lakes course, I played the Ranch course 2 days ago. This course is obviously flatter, more water, and 300 yards shorter (from the blue tees) than the Ranch course. The biggest difference is the quality and condition of the greens. The Lakes course greens were perfect, with consistent conditions for all 18 holes. Both courses are fun to play and offer different challenges. The Lakes course has a larger clubhouse, pro shop, bar, etc. The staff at both places were great!! Have fun.
Solid course
Need to play this course a few times in order to figure out where to hit your tee shot.
Some fairways are blocked by trees and small ponds, but good overall!
Awesome
Wow what a great course. Definitely a must play. I will be back for sure.
Solid Performer
Nice course, well maintained. Club house is nice as well. Course is a fair but challenging layout
Genoa Lakes Course
Very good golf course especially for the price on Golfnow. Fun and challenging course with lots of open fairways. Greens are in good condition.
19th hole is a great place to celebrate your round.
Mosquito Swamp!!!
An entertaining course with well groomed fairways and greens. But... the course was totally infested with mosquitoes. There are lots of lakes and ponds on the course and apparently no effort to control the mosquitoes. We stayed in the surrounding area and noticed no mosquitoes but on this course they were almost unbearable. Part of our foursome had planned to play 36 holes but considered leaving after 14 because of the mosquito swarms.
the course could have been in better shape for the cost of the round
Summer golfing
I played it with my older son and we had a great time on a well maintained golf course with plenty on challenging holes. I recommend only one thing to always have bug spray if you play in the warm weather.
Great Course Friendly People
The course is in great condition. The greens are great. Love the layout. The people are friendly and has great food. Also, great selection of clothing. A bit pricey. I think more like a $65 - $75 in comparison with other courses I have played. $90 local rate is pricey.
What a great experience
Played this course with my son and it was a real wow!! From the beauty and great layout to the wildlife an incredible golly experience. The staff in the pro shop and restraunt were very friendly and service oriented!! The food was great as well!! I highly recommend this course!!
Love the course, the setting and the people who operate it ( the pro shop, the starter, the marshal, the dining room, etc.). I come from Oregon to play it once a year and I’m never disappointed (unless the wind is blowing like a son of a gun!)..
Over watered
The course was being way overwatered. There were many soft spots. The greens were soft and slow and roll on drives was minimal. Course was nice overall and but needs less water.
Great day!
First time playing the lake’s course. Today couldn’t have been a nicer day. Mid 70’s zero wind and sunny.
There is lots of water and it does come into play on this course but it’s not unfair. If you’re game is on you’ll enjoy this beautiful course with magnificent views of the Sierras.
The course is still in early season condition but there are no problem areas.
The only ad I would request would be 150 markers. There are some yardage markings, just found them hard to find at times.
Hint; during this C 19 time if you order something at the clubhouse (snack shack currently closed) at the turn pick it up after you finish 11. It will save you heaps of time and keep play flowing.
Thanks for the great staff keeping it clean!
