The Stadium Course at PGA WEST

So disappointed in my experience here. Paid through golf now for 18 holes. Got to starter for our 1:30pm time and he was like “no way you’re gonna get it all in”.

By hole 4 we were stacked up 3 groups at the tee box for the remainder of the round.

Called the marshal and he said that’s just the way it is.

Darkness came at 5:00 and we only got through 11. Marshal said speak to pro shop. At pro shop, they said that golfnow should have disclosed that there was no way to get 18 in. Of course when i spoke to GolfNow they said we sold you 18 holes and if you didn’t get it in, you need to speak to course.

Typical run around and finger pointing. Bottom line, I’m out $150 for half a round of golf.

This review is primarily to highlight the poor staff interaction my group and I had recently at PGA West.

I originally booked a four-some and a two-some through Teeoff.com, and quickly amended (with confirmation) when one golfer had to withdraw about 2 weeks prior to the tee time. This left me with a foursome and a single. When I arrived, I informed the front desk of the situation and was immediately met with what I would describe as "uncalled-for abrasiveness." The women helping was adamant that PGA West did not receive confirmation of the tee time adjustment down to 5 golfers and that I would be charged. After I convinced her to look at my email confirmations, she asked me to email them to her. When I asked her what email address to send the confirmations, she pointed at her name tag (not helpful). I said "Ok so its aplass@ what domain?" She responds "take a guess" ... Ultimately, I was not told whether I would be charged for the 6th player, or not, and had to wait several days to check my CC statement. Luckily I was not charged as I followed all protocol.

The next interaction was with the starter (Frank?), who was not helpful, nor welcoming. We were somehow an inconvenience for him. Not uncommon out here, but for the price and the quality of the facility, it was not up to par. We played the next day at a Troon managed course and had the complete opposite experience.

There was also no drinking water provided on the course, whatsoever, and it was 115 degrees. No bottled water, no water jugs, no cart person, and snack bars were all closed, which one person in our group described as "negligence."

Each person in my group had the same takeaway and have left similar reviews on other sites. My hope here is that PGA West sees this and rectifies the situation. Other courses are doing things much better in terms of the experience with staff. A facility like this should be first class all the way.

The course itself is fun and challenging, but lacking in certain areas that you would expect of a "world class facility." I sincerely hope this changes.

Felt rushed to tee-off early, no course maps, no GPS in Carts! Was told to download app - but registration needed??!! Try doing that while playing in 110 degree heat and not getting behind. Many blind trouble spots are hidden behind 'hills'. Finally used the GHIN gps and was more helpful. Green nice - but rough and bunkers impossible.

Had a great day at the stadium course, started off with breakfast at the bar food was excellent, great service, enjoyed the practice area before, on course staff were great. Great day can’t wait to get back!

The course was amazing. Even in the heat the dairways were in great shape

Really ashamed that a lot of the trees were removed. I have played this course for a long time. I get that the thought was to get the course back to how it as originally with views of the mountains. I just wonder if Pete was really thinking the course would stay as it was when originally opened. Seems that someone wanted to make this course more friendly to golfers. Too bad, I doubt Pete ever thought about making this more friendly. Still really like the course. Just bring in more brush and trees like it once was.

Bucket list

The Course was in excellent condition given the recent excessive heat. The greens and fairways were in tremendous condition. One issue is the new rough is too thick around bunkers. I lost a ball just off the fairway around a bunker.

My favorite course. Awesome condition

Awesome layout. Not as difficult as I expected it to be. Each hole presented its unique challenge and very picturesque. My first time playing here and with a 40 on the front and a 44 on a very windy (25-35 mph) back 9, I was quite pleased with that. I’m in my 60s, so I played from the whites which the starter said played at 6300 yards that day, so length was also a factor for me as I’m usually comfortable at 6100 yards. If you’re in the area, it’s well worth playing. Note: no GPS on the carts, so bring your devices.
