Pajaro Valley Golf Club
About
Originally designed by Floyd McFarkland, Pajaro Valley Golf Club has large Monterey Pines lining its generous rolling fairways. Elevated tees provide scenic views of the Pajaro Valley below. Opened in 1922 and redesigned in 1962 by Robert Muir Graves, the course features small bentgrass greens and four ponds with water in play on three holes. The fourth is one of the course's most challenging holes, a 420-yard par 4 with triple-tiered green. The course also was once the home of former U.S. Open champion Olin Dutra, who spent the last part of his career teaching here.

1st time at Pajaro Valley
Course is very forgiving, but challenging! Will definitely play her again.
Nice Course to walk or ride
The course had the right amount of tight and narrow fairways to the wide open ones. I liked it had some challenging holes and some that were "breathers", though the 'breathers" were not par 3s. Some tough holes but all were fun to play.
Bumpy greens
Big Fairway you can use your drive and unleash the hound. But there greens were way to bumpy.
Greens pretty bumpy, slanted fairways
This is a fine course. I'm just not a fan of playing up and down hills and slanted fairways which there are many. The greens were quite jumpy. It's worth a try if you can bag a good deal on GN. There are lot's of long par 4's where you can work on your driver.
Greens need help.
Overall the course was in pretty good shape. They've done a much appreciated re-do of the 5th green. Sadly there seems to be a temporary mottling of the greens, which made some putts difficult.
This course is a mess.
This course used to be in good shape. However, it has really gone down hill. I played here with some friends about six months back and I couldn't believe how bad the conditions were. Many of the greens were under construction. I was disappointed but thought that when the work on the course was complete that the course would return to the way it used to be. But after playing it this last time I have now given up on this course. There wasn't a single green that was even average. Patchy grass and dirt everywhere to the point of not having a true roll the entire round. Also, they charged us more than the rate quoted on Golf Now because we didn't have a foursome. Mind you we didn't book a foursome , so why was the rate offered at that price online without any mention of needing to book a foursome?
Pajaro
Not in good shape, but much of that may be blamed on the drought. Carts are kinda worn out, too. But it is a pretty place.
Overbooked--5 hour round
I have played this course for years and it has gone downhill since Janet Davis Garcia left for more professional fairways. The greens used to be great but there is a lot of fungus damage now.
Usually the pace of play here is good but on the Golf Now round I played on a nice Saturday the place was way overbooked. It took the first hour to finish 3 holes--and not because our group was slow. No marshalls and apparently the management takes the weekend off.
This is a great old course but the management is skating and not providing members or guests a quality experience any longer. Hey Pajaro Valley---GET IT TOGETHER!!!! Don't let this gem fall any further into disrepair!
Muni golf (for better or for worse)
The fees are so affordable (and it seems like they keep getting cheaper) that it's hard to pass up the occasional casual round at Pajaro Valley. But... you get what you pay for. Their "famous" fast greens are in poor condition. The pace of play can be horrendous. You see guys out there in jeans, cut-off t-shirts, etc. When I was young, this was a great place to learn the game. It's one of the first courses I ever played. So I feel some nostalgia for Pajaro Valley. Plus it's in a good location (near the freeway, almost halfway between Santa Cruz and Monterey.) Great place for casual golfers looking to mess around and have some fun.
Great course for the price... for the price. And their greens are NOT the best.
Get a good deal. You'll regret it if you pay more than $30 or so to play here..
Do not listen to their message.. They must have been voted the best greens in Monterey County 10 years ago. They are in horrible condition currently. They do seem to be working very hard at repairing them, but when you have 2-3 temporary "fairway greens" you should let your patrons know before they begin their round.
Great staff, real good food, and moderately priced drinks.
Carts need upgrading. I've had a battery die 3-4 times while on the 13-16 hole... They are quick to bring you a replacement, but this shouldn't happen in the first place.
Driving range is real grass which is always nice.
Play here, but don't expect it to be quite as advertised... yet. Hopefully they get it back to 'par' soon.
freindly
great club members allowed me to join them and offered so much assistance with layout and course managment saved me 4 strokes for sure and the scenery was outstanding
Course needs lots of work, especially the fairways.
Play was very slow. Many of the greens and tee boxes were so close together, it was dangerous as balls were landing on or near the tee box.
Needs work.
It's a shame that a great track has been let go. The greens are in horrible shape. The removal of certain sand traps has not been done very well. Price is great for 18 with a cart, but for the upcoming holiday there is no way I would pay the posted green fees for the current conditions of this course.
nice course for the money.
For it being a weekend it was a four hour round. The staff was nice but you had to leave a deposit for the cart key and the practice ball basket.
Greens need attention, slow play.
For the most part, it's a fun course to play. Greens need attention badly. Multiple 5-somes made for slow play early in the morning. Other than that, the staff was cordial and the great green fees softened the blow of the negatives. I would like to play it again when the greens get their much needed attention.
Poor, one of the worst golf courses in the Monterey Area!!!
This golf course was is in very poor condition. We were even given carts that had no wind-shields and dead batteries. After calling the pro-shop 3 times, we had to wait over 30 minutes at hole #6 before someone came out with a replacement cart which was dirty and filled with the trash from the previous riders. The fairways and greens need immediate attention. There are actually 5 greens in my opinion that need to be replaced. I don't know what happened out here but this is course has gone down hill fast. I am letting them know by not golfing here again until I hear they have cleaned up and cared for the course. Poor Customer Service & NO more Pajaro Valley Golf!!!
Nice Fairways / Fast Greens
Nice course overall nice expansive view through out the whole course . Really enjoyed playing here. Discouraged they over booked the golf carts and my group and I had to wait over 45 minutes for a car after being told twice it would be ready in 15 minutes. They did drive the cart out to my group while out on the greens which was a good gesture. Some greens needed imidiate attention due to the fact they had dryed sandy patches yet their brochure states they have the areas best greens. I did not think so.
Greens are in poor shape.
Staff was friendly. Fees were appropriate for course conditions. Greens need a lot of attention. Greens at 9 and 15 caught some form of des ease after airation. Hole 9 has a temporary green.
Very poor greens with lots of bare spots and diseased grass.
The greens are in extremely poor condition. The price we paid through GolfNow was very reasonable, but that matched the poor condition of a lot of the greens. Still if you want to play a round and don' t want to spend a lot, then this course is certainly playable and enjoyable.
