Needs some tlc
Discourse need some tender loving care. Sandtrap's are in terrible shape. Some are totally unplayable in about 30% have ground under repair markers in them. The fairways are in decent shape however overwatered in many places. Golf carts are rolling over the overwatered areas creating tracks that are unplayable. Also there are no course and Bassett or's out on the course taking care of pace of play therefore is very slow. With some management invested good place to play but I would hold off for now
Good Value, challenging
My first time on this course. The course is challenging but definitely playable for a mid-cap player. There are some easy holes that are reachable in regulation but there is a par 5 that is not reachable to me. I like the course. It' has similar characteristics as some that I like playing... elevations, good greens, etc. There are some areas that are brown but for the most part the course is good. Worth what we paid.
course don't have any kind of maintenance
there is no sand in most of the bunkers, fairway is in very poor condition. The putting green are in fine condition.
The course layout is good, but seems lack of any maintenance.
Poor customer service
Need sime nice people if you are changing 65 a round. Maybe some sand clean up the dead wood
Interesting and scenic course
We've been playing not quite one year so we're newbies...but we love this course. It's challenging, scenic, some daunting water hazards, fabulous wildlife, we saw hawks and quail and many birdhouses - this course loves their wildlife. Just a note if you reserve thru Golf Now, best to call clubhouse to confirm price as carts are required during certain tee times and we didn't know that so had to pay more than Golf Now price. No big deal as we enjoyed the course.
Fun course, nice layout
I hadn't been here in 10-15 years. Friend booked it on Golfnow for 31$ on a Saturday at noon; can't beat that price. A few observations:
No driving range- so keep that in mind if you like hitting balls before. You can go to another local course like Bridges (which is about a mile down the road)
Small putting green/chipping green- by the first hole to have a slight warm up
Fun layout- I read a lot of reviews in regards to the layout of the course. I truly didn't remember any of it. I liked the different variety of holes; some holes are short with blind second shots to a green below/above feet; some holes are straight away and just long!
Sand is terrible, which unfortunately is about par for a lot of courses right now with all this heat. There were a few decent traps on the course, but a lot of 'Under Repair' traps, and others that are just unplayable
Staff was very friendly in the pro shop and the restaurant where we grabbed a drink and some food afterwards
Pace of play was fantastic, we had a 2-some in front of us when we tee'd off and didn't see them the rest of the round. Even though we were a 4-some, we didn't see anyone behind us either!
Definitely will be back and give this course another crack :)
Very tight track. Bring your accuracy.
Canyon Lakes is Ted Robinson Jr design course, so the layout is pretty good old style track. However, bring your accuracy because it will be tested all day. Shorter course. I only used driver twice and still could of gotten away with not using driver all day. Canyon Lakes is a very narrow track. Can play very difficult if ball striking is in question. Greens are deceivingly fast and a lot of break. Some very unique holes.
Facilities. Clubhouse will be very nice. They are in the process of renovating it and will have a brewery there so I am sure it will be a hangout spot for locals. Not much in the way of practice facilities. No practice range but have hitting nets for warming up. Small putting/chipping green near 1st tee.
Condition. Course condition is decent. Greens are in pretty good shape. There is room for improvement and cleaning up some areas. Bunkers seem to be well maintained.
Seemed like a lot random people were walking on the course from the surrounding homes even though public access is forbidden. #18 has good views of San Ramon and one of the better holes.
Canyon Lakes
This is a fun course with a very challenging layout. Greens were in great shape. Multiple layers and ridges. Tee boxes are in great locations and you hit into narrow fairways. Some of the fairways are still showing signs from the wet winter but for the most part the course is recovering nicely. As is the case with many tight courses, accuracy is highly rewarded where miss hits will punish you.
Challenging course
Great course and very challenging. The greens were in great shape compared to some of the courses I usually play. I would say the only thing missing is direction for the player who has never played the course. It would help to have the layout printed on the scorecard. There is a lot of blind shots and if you've never played here it's a little confusing. Otherwise it was challenging and I'll definitely be going back.
I'm thirsty
Haven't played since 2011 when it was overpriced and under maintained. Great layout, fairways in good shape, bunkers are getting fixed up.
Just one issue.....how about some water stations please? It was about 65 dog the day we played so not too critical the time. Hopefully by May there will be water stations.
