Maderas Golf Club

Much too long and difficult for a short - hitting, 80 year old like me and my wife. It’s a beautiful course, in good shape, but it’s layout is the most physically demanding I’ve ever played - and I’ve been playing for 71 years.

Maderas is a special place. No matter what the other courses in San Diego are doing you can count on this course to be in immaculate condition. The staff are always friendly and the experience is much more than just a round of golf. This course is a must play (as much as you possibly can)!

This was one of my favorite courses played thus far in the SoCal area.

Greens were fast and almost impossible. Beside that, the course was amazing.

Played in the afternoon in the sun on a beautiful day. The layout of the course is challenging, to say the least. The greens were good, but the tee boxes were trash. I was very disappointed in them. Also, the range was garbage. We didn’t have any grass to practice off of. They weren’t doing any maintenance at all that would cause that, so I’m not sure why it’s like that. Lastly, I wanted to pay cash for some drinks, but was told they wouldn’t accept it. I understand the whole “COVID” crap, but when you can accept cash tips, you can also accept cash payments.

Drove down at the crack of dawn to find out there was a frost delay. Was notified via email but was on the road so had no idea. Range jam packed. Restaurant not open to grab snacks/food. Starter rushing groups out to “catch up”. First hole is forgiving so no back up. Once we got to hole 3 it was a standstill.

Can’t control the weather but things could’ve been handled better. Discount? A “sorry” or two? Starter could’ve kept the 10min space between groups to avoid the pile up starting on the 3rd hole. Took 4:20 to finish 16 holes. Not worth the $215 it cost. Sure the regulars love it here. Won’t be back anytime soon, bad taste left

If you want to play a fantastic course. Play Maderas. The course is in beautiful condition. The greens are perfect and lightning quick. Staff was outstanding and welcoming. Don’t waste your time or money playing Torrey pines. Torrey pines does have the views but the course is constantly beat up from all the people who play. Play a course that is too favorite with all locals.

The pace of play was significantly slow, we waited probably 3-5 minutes on each T box and started about 4 minutes late, the people in front of us were waiting for the people in front of them so it was backed up, and the people behind us were hitting up on us especially on one green, I think it was the 6 hole where we are walking on the green and the ball landed about 2 feet from where we were standing. No apologies from the people behind us. This group actually complained about us playing slow although we had no control over the 2 groups in front of us. The golf cart #10 was giving us trouble starting on the first 9 holes and died on the 11th fairway and had to be rebooted by a golf staff which made us further behind in our play and then on the 13th fairway the golf cart died completely, we called 4 times trying to get help and we had to walk back after 4 phone calls did not result in any help from the staff. This was now past sunset. It is/was unclear that anybody actually came to help us. This is the first time in my golfing play over the last 10 years that I had to walk in. We did not expect this level of poor service from such a "high end course". Interesting that the group behind us, that hit up on us, were on the 13th fairway behind us and did not offer any help when our cart died, did not apologize for their close call hitting us.
