Maderas Golf Club

About
Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

Love Playing Maderas!
Another beautiful day, and round of golf out at Maderas! Course is it great condition for this time of year, and the greens are rolling quite nicely! Highly recommend!
What a beauty!
Loved this course. First time there and it did not disappoint whatsoever. Beautiful greens, attentive staff, friendly smiles from everyone along the way. Tough course though - if your ball goes off the fairway, it’s probably gone. I had a great day and only lost one ball, but my husband who didn’t have such a great day, lost a dozen +++ LOL
Fast Greens
Course in great condition. Greens way too fast this time for “regular” golfers. Made it a little less enjoyable and greatly slowed play
Slow as death
Friendly starter, nice ranger. But we didn’t see him after the 6th hole. On the back we literally waited with the group in front of us every hole until 16 where we got so fed up we quit.
Good course, good greens but when you pay
$160 midweek you don’t expect a 5:45-6 hour round. Had played there 5 or 6 times previously.
I will not be back.
Great day at Maderas
Enjoyed playing the course for the first time
Great conditions can’t wait to play again in the future
First time playing this course
I was really impressed with the facilities and course layout. It can be challenging at times, but it was fun. You definitely need to rely on a range finder to maneuver around the course. I also like how the marshals keep the players moving. I would highly recommend this course!
PACE OF PLAY
The pace of play was the worst I have ever experienced at the course the back nine took 2.5 hours to play. This is after the starter took 5 minutes to encourage us about pace of play.
Love Playing Maderas!
Course is in great condition! Greens are rolling quite well! Staff is always great! Highly recommend!
I can see why this was in the Top 100 US
Great experience. Course was in great shape overall. I'll give them a little pass on the average-paced greens as they were still recovering from aerification. But the layout is interesting with every hole being different and fairly memorable. No spectacular holes IMO but 18 pretty good ones. Fairway, tees and rough were in great condition with no worn or burnt spots. Nice carts with accurate GPS right to the accurate hole location.
Hard to rate courses nowadays for value with green fees out of control, but I would say it is a good $150-$250 course. Not a very good value as a $300 course, except for maybe once to check it off your bucket list. And I do consider it in the bucket list conversation, as it was a Golf Digest Top 100 US course 2013 to 2015.
Put this one in the top public courses in the area list that includes Torrey Pines North and South, Aviara, The Grand, and maybe The Journey at Pechanga.
