Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
About
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

Overall a great course
Wanted to try this course for some time now and finally got around to it. I was not disappointed, however not impressed about some things either. We played the Legends side and there was no ball cleaners on the entire course. The pace of play was extremely slow, and the marshal seemed to be more interested in his phone calls then to notice the extremely slow play in front of us. The course was in great condition however the greens were terrible. I will return to try the champion side next week. A few minor tweaks and this is a must play course.
Legends
Played the Blues (6394/71.0/127) with GDR23 & Matt using an AD Underpar voucher. Fun, relaxed round @ 4H, 15M in mild fall conditions.
Schmidt/Curley design that has a good mixture of shorter. risk reward holes and longer holes. Overall this is a challenging layout that is a fun course to play. I slightly prefer this course over the sister Champions layout.
The tees were a mixed bag. Most of the par 4/5 tees were well maintained and reasonably lush. Most of the par 3 tees were smaller, more humpbacked and generally in not as good of condition.
The fairways were mostly lush and well maintained.
The rough was lush and thick enough to catch even shorter irons, but not ridiculously high. On the more times than not occasions when the ball settled down, it was whack a short iron out and get it back in play time.
The sand traps were well manicured. However, the sand depth and quality was all over the place. The waste bunkers were more hard packed but had some large rocks in them. Only part of the course that was below average.
The poa annua greens were firm, generally smooth and medium to medium fast speed. They putted nice and held approach shots very well. The large green complexes were well designed with mounds, slopes and contours to challenge you whether you were on or off the greens. 13 & 14 were in poorer condition that the other greens, 14 had noticeable bare spots.
This would be a very challenging course to walk, numerous tees were a hike from the last green. Not an overly tight layout, but you cannot miss most fairways here by much without bringing penalty strokes (lost ball bushes & native overgrowth) into play. The carts have GPS where you can check yardages to bunkers, hazards etc.
The customer service was excellent. All grass range and range balls included with the UP deal were a +.
Recommended.
Will be a nice course in time. Seemed quite new. No ball cleaners, no picture layout on score card to know where you were going as a lot of the holes were dog leg etc. fairway grasses varied from hole to hole ie length, water retention etc. Very challenging in its present condition. in time as grasses mature it should present very well
A bit of a drive to a beautiful course
Morongo is a bit of a drive from Palm Springs but it is a very nice course with challenges and not as busy as closer courses. The landscape and views are great and the course has interesting terrain and greens. Well worth the drive, especially if you make a day of it by combing with some shopping.
Great day
Course was wonderful on the eye with lots of contours and angles throughout. The views were beautiful and added to a great day. The sand traps were many and deep.
The Legends course is a challenging course, if you can keep the ball in the fairway its loads of fun,
but get into the rough, and that's it gets real interesting. The putting, depending on the time, we started and the putting was fast, as it "warmed up" it got slower. I'm looking forward to playing again.
well worth the drive from Indio to Beaumont.
Has been in better shape
Like the Legends course, fun holes with only a couple being slimier....like the short par 3's. Course is in fairly descent shape, fairways were not kept up during the summer as Bermuda grass has been allowed to turn into dirt in far two many places, now the over seed rye does not have a dormant Bermuda grass base in a lot of the fairway, also greens have been beaten to death and different grass has invaded several of them..the base is good and putts roll pretty true, just looks like they are barley hinging in there. Have to take the good with the bad, so many people working on the course it is amazing the place is not in better shape...oh well California drought golf.
A Beaumont Beauty
My friend and I played on the Legends course. The course is quite challenging with very fast greens. The bright sun sometimes made it difficult to see the trajectory of your ball. We will definitely play this course again.
best day of golf ever. course is keep very well. no excuses for bad golf here.
Good layout but condition was marginal
I was told when I made the time that the Legends course was in good shape because the annual maintenance was completed in August. It wasn't in good shape. The greens were poor and tee to green there was a lot of bare patches. Had to move the ball to get off dirt.
A Five Star 36 Hole Facility
Played ths Champions mid day on a Sunday in four hours. The greens are in great condition and the fairways continue to improve every time I play there. Course maintenance is excellent, the golf cars are all brand new and the clubhouse is top notch. All of the staff are really great. What a great place to spend four hours on a Sunday.
Need to enforce pace of play!
I’ve played here several times…always enjoy playing this course.
However, today was different. The wind blew mightily; and, the pace of play was absolutely horrible! Some folks who cannot hit the ball decently simply should not be playing a course like Morongo. The front-nine was 3.25 hours ending with a 5 hour and 35 min round. Yikes!
The Marshall drove by several times…nothing changed.
Awesome value
Two excellent courses! Great practice facility and good food at reasonable prices!
Pretty bad
Conditions of green was so bad.
You need to fix all greens soonest!
