Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

Hump Day on the course.

Living in the area I thankfully have a couple of different courses to choose from and hadn't made my way over to Morongo until this past Wednesday. The price was very cheap for the course being it was a Wednesday evening and the weather was a bit cold and cloudy but it turned out to be very nice. The staff was friendly and the course is very nicely maintained. The only exception would be the greens on the Legends course as I believe they are due for some freshening up. The carts are equipped with digital course maps/flyovers for every hole and yardage to the center of greens. I am definitely coming back soon!

EXTREMELY POOR OUTSIDE SERVICES

Both courses here can be challenging especially for a "first timer" who may not know where to place their tee shots or are playing a tee box not suited to their ability. We played the Legends course which was in fair condition only, due to standing water in some fairways and bunkers. Now to our main beef. We believe that a golf experience starts at the bag drop and ends when the clubs are back in the trunk after the round. We dropped our bags at the bag drop and checked in , the assistant in the golf shop was not over friendly and was more interested in SELLING us range balls and directed any questions to the outside service staff. When we arrived at the bottom of the stairs where the carts were parked our clubs had not yet arrived and there was no staff member around. I finally found him in the cart barn and asked if the bags could be brought down, his curt reply was, "you can drive your cart up there and get them yourself". This was the start of the very unfriendly experience with the outside service staff (except for the starter at the tee box and the beverage cart girl). I have been in the golf business for many years and this crew definitely need training in customer relations. They were rude and uncooperative. The carts were not set up properly, ie no scorecards, no pencils, no cooler available, no cups or ice for on course water stations and no tees. At the home of the Southern California PGA I expected the same first class service their members are always afforded when they visit courses in the Palm Springs area.

Fun track, hard for first timers.

Really fun track. Some tough holes due to blind shots that are tough for first timers. Would help if they could somehow put points of interest on the GPS systems on those holes which have complete blind shots. Great value and enjoyable course. Pace of play was a bit slow.

Give it a try

I like everything about this course. The layout is so interesting. The condition right now is nearly perfect. The views are splendid. The greens have enough slope to make it interesting, but not enough to make putting silly.

Pace of play can be an issue here, but not on the day we played.

The prices are a bit high, but they offer enough hot deals rounds that you can usually find an affordable time to play.

Course challenging

The greens weren't in the best shape. Hard and dry. They may be getting ready to re-seed. All in all great experience.

Nuce challenging layout

Thie legends course is very challenging from tee to green. It is well designed with many bunkers protecting greens and in straregic fairway locations. The greens are large and undulating and in great shape. The rough is very thick and difficult to play from along the faiwYs and near the greens. The course winds through undeveloped areas and is very peaceful and beautiful. The pace of play of 4.5 hours was slow for a twosome. Overall this is must play!

One Criticism

The sensitive areas for the golf carts are not marked so you don't know you are in one until your cart won't go.

Morongo Valley - Legends

I have played this course many times. The course is always in great condition and can be a challenge to all golfers. Very friendly and helpful staff. Had Valentines Day dinner at the club and it was a exceptional meal for the price

I was disappointed compared to previous times

All greens are shaved to the point that they are patchy - have been sanded. There may be a fungus infestation as there are different shades of green with numerous patches that appear to be bleached. Sand traps in dire need of attention as they are very packed/hard. Overall condition has deteriorated.

Decent course for the price

Played Legends on a Monday afternoon, a little chilly but sunny. Course was in good shape, greens are fast, not enough sand in some of the bunkers, pace of play was just over 4 hours.

Nice course on a windy day

We had a lot of fun on this course. Really let's you drive the ball - no houses in the way. Loved the layout. The only negatives were the slow pace of play and the very windy day. Would recommend.
