Tierra Rejada Golf Club
About
Nestled in the foothills of eastern Ventura County, Tierra Rejada Golf Club is known for its picturesque setting and stunning views. The club overlooks the Reagan Presidential Library. Tierra Rejada is unique in that it offers a formidable test for low handicappers from the championship tees but it is also accessible to mid and high handicappers thanks to the Players Course. The 5,600-yard Players Course is a "course within a course" that was designed to keep the game fun for golfers who may not be looking for a tough test. Even though it may be shorter, both golf courses still provide a challenge. There are plenty of ups and downs throughout thanks to the rolling hills and there are a variety of hazards coming into play including water and strategically placed bunkers.

Good day
Played with a great pair of guys and the greens were excellent. Hard to believe they are in such good shape
good value
this is excellent for old friends to play afternoon golf $100 for four
Both the good and the bad
PROS:
Friendly staff - Both pro shop guys were great. Allowed me to move my tee time up 30 minutes and very friendly.
Driving range and putting/chipping green - Always good to have these 3 at a course. Not all do..
Greens - In fantastic shape. Not too slow, not too fast, just right.
Cost - Got a great deal on Golfnow for an early Sat. afternoon round.
Views - Great 360 degree views, course on a very nice piece of property.
CONS:
Fairways - Needs water and TLC. Very dry with minimal green "lush" spots.
Pace of play - Group in front of us took their sweet a** time all day long. Need marshals to assist is driving the pace.
Food/Drinks - Tried to order food at the turn and the grill had closed at 3:30pm on a Sat due to a wedding that evening. Only saw the cart gal once early on in the round. Guess she went home early.. C'mon man!
All and all - Average overall experience, will be back after some rain lushes up the fairways. 5+ hr round.
"Mountain type course"
For serious golfers only. Beautiful course, but NOT for beginners!
Awesome course but pretty bad condition
I would absolutely love to play this course again if it was green and not so dried up.Course itself is a great design with many challenges especially if you have never played there.Greens were in good condition and some bunkers had reasonable sand, but most fairways were brown if not dirt, obviously they have a very small allotment of water for the course and it is certainly a hill course so its not super efficient when watering.GPS on cart only shows distance to front, center and back of green so you have no idea how the hole plays(no picture). But I enjoyed my round none the less and just played if you had a dirt lie you could move it to the closest grass area.I will try this course again after it has had substantial rain so I can see it when its a true 4plus star rating as it shows.
Needs some TLC
We were somewhat disappointed playing this course. First off, the pro shop staff wasn't that friendly. Our tee time was 2:14 but we were faced with 2 groups waiting ahead of us on the tee at that time. The pace was slow and even with marshals all around, they did not speed up the play. Two groups ahead of us were very slow, so we had to wait to hit more than not.
The course seemed to be lacking water and maintenance everywhere you turned and many of our shots had to be played on hard ground or dirt. The course is challenging with many elevation changes as well as blind shots, thank goodness for the GPS in the cart which advised you when the landing area ahead was clear. Greens were in good shape.overall experience was just fair. Would not play here on a regular basis even with the course being only a couple of miles from our home.
Challenging track
TR is a challenging, but fair, course. I really enjoyed the layout.l
OUTRAGEOUS GREENS
This course is SOOO SWEEEEETTTTT, I love playing it UNLESS, the wind is blowing then I don't play it. The greens are the best condition that I have EVER seen them in, stay straight and attack the pin and the ball WILL HOLD! Certain holes you need to go right at it, if you're left or right of the pin there are undulations, and NOT SMALL ONES EITHER, so "beware", get some local help if you're unsure! All in all, FANTASTIC course and the best bang for the buck out that way, along with Sterling Hills....!
Nice Course, Not So Nice Staff
The course was very nice. It was a beautiful setting. The staff was a little unfriendly though. We were going to be late to our tee time so we informed the Pro Shop to send others ahead of us. The groups behind us were thrilled at that. When it was time for us to tee off, the group in front of us was in the fairway, waiting for the group in front of them to finish on the green. The Pro Shop announced for us to tee off because we were holding up the groups behind us. We ended up teeing off into the group ahead of us while the group behind us, tee-ed off into us. Around the 3rd or 4th hole, we offered the group behind us to play through, but they were being rushed too. The Pro Shop all day was sending messages to our carts to pick up the pace of play when in reality, we were waiting for the group ahead of us. On the back nine, a marshal came and informed us that we needed to pick up the pace because there was no one on the two holes in front of us. However, there wasn't anyone behind us either. We were just disappointed with the strictness and being singled out by the staff, when other groups were worse than us. We didn't even play a full round because they rushed us. We were so frustrated and upset that we skipped a couple of holes or just tee-ed off just to hit.
Terrible layout
Course is way to severe. The hills are very steep and to have a false front on a uphill (severely) 400 yd hole is not a good design. The fairways were in bad shape, the greens were nice.
Overall I'd rate it a 2.
Coarse and Greens
Course was in good shape but Greens could use some TLC.
People are not repairing their Ballmarks.
Pace was surprisingly decent for a weekend.
My favorite golf course in Ventura county CA
Tierra Rejada is one of my favorite course near my home in Thousand Oaks. Beautiful 360 degree views of S. Cal valleys from high vantage points of course. Prepare to lose few extra balls than other courses but view and course condition (fairways and greens) is worth few lost balls. Enjoy your next golf round here.
Dramatic
I played this course about 10 years ago and was impressed then, and wanted to see if it still held up to that first time. It did. Staff was friendly and helpful. I was traveling and didn't want to bring my clubs, so I rented the high end set. It had a Titleist AP2 iron set with 917 driver, 3W and hybrid with a Scotty putter. The practice field was excellent with an area for the short game including a bunker.
The course was in excellent condition, fairways were hard and fast. Greens were receptive but nice, true and fast on the roll. I played the blue tees and had to make some real critical choices about what club to use off the tees in order to manage the various challenges. (I played with a member and he helped with that.) Tee shots include dramatic carries over arroyos, narrow fairways and uphill or downhill drives, and some tight par 3's while short kept me really focused. The hot dry wind added another dimension to the decision making.
I play quickly. I like 2.5 hour rounds. I got on the course around 11:30 and was finished by 3:00 - about 3.5 hours for the round - decent pace - it would have been even faster except for the 2 dorks who were playing ahead who kept getting on their bloody cell phones and texting, and taking selfies, then prancing around the green surveying every angle, then backing off putts to realign, and equally obnoxious on the tee...as if! The all black matching outfit with the flat brimmed hat and the incessant knuckles and high fives, should have been the cue. Growing the game has its drawbacks.
I did hit some errant shots, but had some lucky bounces that brought my ball back into play, but I could see how it would be easy to lose balls on this course. Miraculously I didn't lose any.
This is a fabulous course. The golfnow deal made it even better. I'll be back as a regular when I return to the area.
