Angeles National Golf Club
About
Angeles National Golf Club is the only Nicklaus Design course in Los Angeles County. It is tucked away in the Angeles National Forest. This championship course is known for being one of the area's most challenging with tough greens that are lightning fast and more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are also two lakes and a creek that come into play. Golfers should be prepared for long par 4s and demanding carries over ravines and barrancas. Not only is it a golf course that requires length, you'll also need accuracy. Angeles National Golf Club finishes with a par 4 that plays from an elevated tee alongside the rushing creek that edges the left of the fairway and to the right of the landing area there's a deep bunker. To the right, the green is bordered by deep grass hollows and bunkers and there is a lake to the left.

Overpriced and poor conditions
Most overpriced and poorly maintained course in Southern California. There are a million other options to play that are better value with a better layout and better off-course amenities. Play Sand Canyon for half the price and triple the experience. Everyone who played with me last time agreed not to play it again.

Current Conditions - Aug 11
Angeles is a very nice high-end course with some current upkeep challenges, I assume based on water restrictions. The layout is in the Arroyo beneath Angeles Crest, so nice views, very few trees, and sand/rock/cactus in the waste areas ready to catch an errant shot. Many enjoyable holes in the layout. Some require local knowledge so first-time players will get a few surprises with blind shots. Overall the course design is very enjoyable, and the GPS in the carts helps. Fun from the back tees for better golfers. A little reminiscent of Rustic Canyon, but with tighter landing areas and smaller green complexes, and the aforementioned blind shots. Like, Rustic, I'm sure this place is a bear to take care of for the greenskeeper with high winds and heat. The fairways are pretty baked right now. I assume they can't water as much as they want. Greens were in good shape and interesting to putt, with good speed. Traps were fine, with native sand. At the moment with the baked fairways I would say not worth the price, but if you get a deal, and can stand the heat, go for it.
Hi, thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Angeles National Golf Club.
Good as always
It's here and Rustic if you live in the area and not a member somewhere. The price is steep but that results in tee times and reasonable play. Golf course is still in great shape with the exception of a couple tees that they're losing to the heat.
I'd say it's my favorite in the area, even with the $$$

Bad course condition
Course condition were not good. Tee boxes bare and pretty rough. Fairways pretty dry compared ro resent memory. Greens were hit and miss, held approach shots well but some greens had alot of pitch marks and recovering marks. Staff always good. Course layout very challenging and best in town. I either master the course or fall on my face. Pace of play was good for 14 holes then hit a slow group. Got tee time deal, and was worth the price, but be very sad if paid full price with dry and not optimal conditions. Will definitely play again in the fall/winter.
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back at Angeles National Golf Club!
Answering your question
Thank you for kindly responding to my review and I want to give you an improvements that I think is worthy.
There has to be a minimum amount of proficiency in golf in order for somebody to get an early starting time. The group in front of us , at 11:50 were Novice golfers like all of us were at sometime however they should be given late afternoon teetimes . In addition a minimum expectation is that everybody plays out of their own bag the group in front of us had three people playing out in one bag and we were forced to switch nines otherwise it would've been an incredibly long round.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!
Nice Course
First time playing this track. Course is well maintained w very nice greens. Cart was in excellent condition - gps was very helpful. I would recommend this course.
Hi, thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Angeles National Golf Club.
Still the same
Hadn't played here in a while and got a decent deal so even though it was 100 degrees out.
Check in was easy and courteous; no issues.
Unfortunately their range machines are super finicky so i couldn't get a bucket because they went offline. Luckily there were enough random balls scattered around that I could still get a few warm up swings in.
Joined a twosome and single on the first tee at our te time and watched the foursome in front of us have someone giving another person in their group lessons as if it was their first time playing golf. Realizing it was gonna be a 6 hour round we were able to start on the back. Fortunately pace of play was excellent with no one in front of us.
At the turn (hole 1) we teed off behind a twosome but after a few holes we caught up to them on every tee. we could see that things were backing up ahead so nothing we could do. Another twosome caught up to us and mentioned that they were actually playing the front for the second time because the pace on the back was so brutal. Honestly the lack of a marshal on this course is a huge problem because there are a lot of folks taking way too long searching for their shots or not picking up when they should.
Course was in good shape. Greens were in good condition, sand seemed mostly fluffy though a few were in bad shape. fairways were their usual thin/tight conditions; expect a good shot to roll out a good way.
Overall, a good fun track even in heat. Just too expensive for what it is, but at this point it doesn't seem like management is at all interested in making improvements so if you can find a good deal I'd recommend

Leaves something to be desired
A friend and I play this course on a fairly regular basis. it’s definitely the “nicest” public course in the area that has a price point that keeps the riff riff out, something to pay for for sure. The course itself is usually in great shape, the greens roll true and it’s challenging. Pace of play is fantastic since it’s not terribly busy during the week, which is when we play.
The problem is everything outside of the course. When you pay $100/round mon - thurs and upwards of $180 on the weekend you expect some type of service. The shop staff is always quiet and rude, never engaging or friendly at all. Also, for that price point, I would like to see range balls included, they are not. The staff can’t even be bothered to load the golf carts with scorecards, a pretty basic amenity, again, especially for the price point. The past Tuesday, our tee time was at 7:28, we arrive 10 till 7, expecting to hit some balls and the range machine was still locked up, trash from critters the night before was all over the range from garbage cans that hadn’t been taken out the night before.
The snack shop is never open first thing in the morning so make sure to bring a snack and beverage with you, and of course, there’s no beverage cart on the course during the week from what we gather. I’ve never seen one. That isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but at least make it so we can call ahead at the turn to order food. Nope, can’t do that either cause no one answers the phone. EVER. I called upwards of 15 times after leaving a range finder there on accident and couldn’t get a live person on the phone once. Not once. If you order food at the turn, it’s made to order, which is lovely if you have time to wait for something made to order which you don’t cause you’re turning to 10.
Bottom line, the track itself is great, but the service and amenities for the price you pay bring the value of the course way down. It feels like driving a used luxury car that was smoked in. It’s a nice car, but it feels sticky. Ya might still drive it, but it doesn’t give you that luxury feeling you thought you were paying for.
Same exact experience this past week when playing. Trash all over the range. Told the guy in the shop and he said “not my department” and kept smoking his cigarette. No one cares about much here. It’s really too bad.

Horrible condition for the price!
I will preface this with that there is a slight drought going on in California and this area, but if they lower the prices from the standard $170, maybe they'd get more golfers to play and could put more money into it. If this course was more lush and the greens were better, it could be really fun and worthwhile. At this point though for a scratch golfer, it isn't even an upscale muni course. Also, no food possible on the course or on the turn and no cart men/women for drinks, this leaves a lot to be desired. Tiny things they just don't give a crap about. Just water and cut the greens a bit and it would be so much better. I will never play this course again willingly unless someone FaceTime me and shows me the course has changed. Make the green fees $80 and get more players so you can hire more people and get the layout to where it should be. It takes a lot to make me mad, but I took my Dad for a belated Father's Day gift, and it wasn't a gift in my mind. Things have to be so much better than this with how far it is away from most things.

No one ever there but no amenities
I like playing Angeles because I can always get a tee time.. They clearly charge too much because it’s like this every single day of the week… Empty. The problem with that is they have no restaurant, they only have a tiny snack bar with a few terrible frozen items and some drinks. We made the turn at 3:15 and it the snack bar was closed, we couldn’t even get a drink if we wanted… it’s like a ghost town. Whoever is running this place clearly has no clue how to manage a golf course properly. They have a great golf course with great conditions and no one there. There is a disconnect somewhere

Surprisingly Expensive
I’ve played this track several times, and really like the layout of the course and holes overall. But it’s been a few years and never was it this expensive. I don’t mind paying a premium for a great course, but it better meet the premium standard. Solid grass driving range and practice area. Tee boxes were in GREAT shape. Fairways were in average condition with several areas that needed to be repaired on most holes. None of the fairway or green side bunkers were particularly fluffy. Greens were in rough shape having been recently punched within the last few weeks. Not worth $140 on weekends or $90 on weekdays. But if you’re desperate to get out and need to find a tee time, it’s an option and fun track.
