Angeles National Golf Club
About
Angeles National Golf Club is the only Nicklaus Design course in Los Angeles County. It is tucked away in the Angeles National Forest. This championship course is known for being one of the area's most challenging with tough greens that are lightning fast and more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. There are also two lakes and a creek that come into play. Golfers should be prepared for long par 4s and demanding carries over ravines and barrancas. Not only is it a golf course that requires length, you'll also need accuracy. Angeles National Golf Club finishes with a par 4 that plays from an elevated tee alongside the rushing creek that edges the left of the fairway and to the right of the landing area there's a deep bunker. To the right, the green is bordered by deep grass hollows and bunkers and there is a lake to the left.

Understaffed
I like this course. It is overpriced compared to similar courses. I wouldn’t mind that if it wasn’t so terribly understaffed. I’ve played here about 10 times and there has never been a marshal on the course. I’ve never encountered that common even in the cheapest of courses. During my round yesterday it was so backed up on the back nine that I had to leave after the 14th hole. A couple of groups were playing so slowly They ruined the afternoon for everyone. It would be nice if there was a marshal there to speed up play. Also, there should really be a refreshment cart. Again, this makes no sense to me, especially since they shut the snack bar down at the earliest possible time. If you tee off in the afternoon it will more than likely be close at the turn. With just the smallest investment in staffing, they could change the whole experience here.

Staffing problems
The staff here is terrible, when they are even available. Concessions was closed, starter was as rude as could be, and it was a 6 hour round on a THURSDAY. the course is mismanaged. There is no reason that at this price point they can’t send a Marshall out monitor. It’s absurd and they just don’t care.

Expensive for what you get
Was my first time playing Angeles and to be fair my expectations were high. I had heard good things and it had the price tag to match ($90 prior to fees on a weekday). Overall I was pretty underwhelmed and didn’t expect the playing conditions to be as rough as they were.
Pros:
Easy to book a time
Pace of play is excellent, was empty when we played
Fun layout, but challenging
Cons:
Fairways and greens were bone dry
Greens seemed to be under repair and were never told (pitch marks removal/ sand)
Everything was really firm (be careful of your wrists)
Not visually a great course when everything is spotty brown and green
Would expect better maintenance for a course of this price
Hello. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We take customer feedback very seriously at our course. We sincerely hope you give us another try in the future.
Not a good experience
The course layout is good but difficult. The fairways and around the greens were not very good. The grass was dormant, which didn’t help. It also took 5-1/4 hours to play. The biggest issue is the group behind us hit our golf carts twice and a ball flew by a woman’s face once, each time when we were leaving the hole. After the first golf cart was hit, I let the group know they hit our cart and it was unacceptable. After the woman was almost hit, I tried to call the pro shop or anyone at the course. All I got was the reservations team, who didn’t help at all, or an answering machine. There were no marshals. So, here were are at this course getting pelted by golf balls and there’s no one there to do anything. Then, our cart was hit AGAIN!!! I FIND IT TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE THAT THERE WAS NO WAY TO GET A HOLD OF SOMEONE AT A MAJOR GOLF COURSE WHEN THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE AT THE COURSE. I WILL NEVER PLAY THIS COURSE AGAIN AND I HOPE YOU WON’T EITHER AFTER YOU READ THIS REVIEW.

Needs work
Course layout is very challenging and narrow. Greens are good. The problem here is the fairways and grass or lack of it. The fairways are very hard and the grass is completely burnt. There are places where its almost like hitting from a practice mat. Not a great experience and I expected better for the price.
The Bermuda grass in the fairways goes dormant in winter. There is a sign that tells you that in the pro shop. It is not uncommon for warm season grasses to go dormant in the winter months. The fairways are firm. But it is NOT because there int any grass. They are just firm.
Great layout and great conditions
I enjoyed playing this well manicured and challenging course. My only issue is with the price. Probably worth around $100, not the $175 they seek to charge.

Pricey “Gem”
Angeles National is a nice “links like” style course that is challenging, yet fair. Fairways are good but course knowledge would assist in knowing where to aim and safely miss. Same for the green areas. The greens rolled nicely, on the fast side. Some of the tee placements for such greens were difficult and make the course that much more challenging. The only draw back for some golfers may be the price ($120 to $170).
Thank you for your review, rcwood1384. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Angeles National Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Over rated
Decided I would splurge on a round. Very disappointed. The number of open tee times on a weekend when every other course was booked solid was the first concern. I figured it was just the price putting people off.
After parting with my $170 I learned that this did not entitle me even to a few range balls. There goes another $8 to hit balls off the dirt (all the grass had "left the area", so to speak. When I got to the first tee I was worried they couldn't afford water. It was mainly white and brown, The layout is cut out of California desert scrub and so anything off the fairway is a lost ball. That, plus the rattle snakes and poison oak mean that only the dumbest of the dumb wander off mown grass. While there are some interesting holes; particularly the par 3's it is an underwhelming experience. The surroundings are not glamorous and it can be a bit of a wind tunnel at times.
Very Disappointing
Played here for a special occasion, knew going in it was $180. Used to played here a lot when it was $130 with range balls.
Pros:
-really fun layout
-great pace
-11 handicap, challenging but scoring opportunities
Cons
-round itself is way overpriced
-range bucket $15 for med and $18 for large with only 10 range bays
-no on course service
-15 min wait to check in with other employees standing around
MAJOR CON:
We were excited to have a 19th hole and watch the genesis but the restaurant was closed(has been since the pandemic). Snack window was open but extremely limited menu, slow food service and food isn’t great. PLEASE do not tell me there is a labor shortage, you are charging $50 more than the pandemic golf boom, you can afford to pay 5 people to run the restaurant.
Shame the owners view this purely as an investment instead of a marquee Los Angeles golf course.
It was rained out and trying to get a refund can I please get a contact number to start the process??
