US Open Rough

The rough was ridiculous. If your ball wondered off the fairway it was almost impossible to find unless you had the whole foursome hunting for it. Not good for pace of play either. CUT THE ROUGH DOWN!!!!!!!!

Save Your Money - Play Anywhere Else

To charge over $200 with the course in its current condition is criminal. They claim the rain doesn’t allow them to cut the rough/fairway, but we played plenty of other courses in Indio/Palm Springs this weekend that were in immaculate condition for half the cost. Views are spectacular, but not worth it when you’re essentially hitting from the rough when you’re in the fairway, the rough is a forest, and the greens are rolling at a 6!? Do better PGA…

Truly Disappointing

This course is a ripoff. We arrived to be told it was cart path only. The fairways are overgrown, and are not cut back. The rough is way too long and you cannot find your balls. The sand bunkers have little or no sand and the tee boxes are shaggy. Marshalls did drive around however they never stopped as they were probably tired of all the complaints. To make matters worse after our 5-1/2 hour round we were told we could not take our clubs up to the bag drop. This course should be closed until they can get it in proper shape. To be charging $200+ to play this is just plain greed.

do not play here until the overseed process is complete.

I’m sure under normal conditions this course is terrific but in its current state it’s unplayable. The rough is U.S. Open thick and the fairways haven’t been mowed in several days.

The pro shop staff was courteous and refunded our Green fees after we saw the conditions on the first hole. That’s the right move and I’m grateful for that.

Incredible mountain scenery at PGA West

PGA West, including the Stadium course and the public 36-hole facility home to the Pete Dye Dunes and Pete Dye Mountain courses, is fresh off of an extensive three-year, multi-million-dollar renovation by Tim Liddy, Dye's long-time right-hand man. The architectural team hand-dug around the bunkers and greens of all three courses to restore them to their original shapes and contours. The Pete Dye Clubhouse also received a makeover, including a casual new restaurant called The Bunker Bar, home to two new Trackman 4 golf simulators available to the public. Playing the Mountain Course takes golfers on an epic journey into the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains on the back nine. If your ball doesn't end off pinging off of the rocks at some point, you've played well. The scenery makes the Dye-induced doubles more tolerable.

SLOW

Showed up to the starter and was informed we would be teeing off 15-20 minutes behind. Played the first hole and had to wait for 2 groups to play the second hole. Then on hole 3 one of the carts died/ malfunctioned. Called the clubhouse twice to get a replacement and didn’t get one until the turn at hole 9. Marshall had attitude about the whole situation saying they didn’t have a lot of carts. Then when we pulled up to the clubhouse the employee said they had tons of carts… smh. Conditions weren’t optimal I assume because of the season. All practice ranges were closed as well. A lot of money for an average experience.

Tougher Than We Remember

We hadn't played here in years and thought we'd try it on a Hot Deal tee time. The Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the course was in good shape. The first 2 holes had much longer rough than the other holes so maybe they hadn't finished mowing yet. Nevertheless, we had a great deal of trouble finding our balls in the rough on those two holes, so it didn't start the day well. The course has elevated greens and tee boxes, and all the holes played long as there is little to no run out. Greens putted true and were nice. Glad we played here again, but the course just played too long for us. Unless you are a very long hitter and don't need run-out, think about moving up a tee box.

Mismanagement of tee times-5:10 round-BAD

I paid $91 to play the Pete Dye Mountain Course at PGA West, and for the price, it was reasonable. The setting is stunning, with beautiful views throughout the round.

That said, the course layout felt awkward in places, with several holes and tee boxes crowded together unnecessarily on the front nine. Conditioning was only average—the rough had been freshly mowed, leaving unsightly clumps of grass scattered across the course. For a facility of this caliber, that was disappointing. The greens were fine but rolled slow, which I assume is intentional given the extreme undulations Pete Dye is known for.

The biggest issue, however, was pace of play. Tee times were poorly managed, and with a tournament ahead of us, the course backed up to over five hours. That’s simply unacceptable for any course, much less one of this reputation.

I’d consider playing it again, but only midweek when the course is likely to be less congested.

Not average golfer friendly

This is already an incredibly difficult course made almost impossible to play by the rough. Very thick rough that consumes the ball. I lost 3 balls on the front nine that landed no more than 5 yards off the fairway. Impossible to find without a spotter. I recommend calling the course before booking to see if the rough has been trimmed to a level where you don't need a spotter to find the ball. The bunkers and greens were OK, but for this price point I expected better. For the average golfer wanting a PGA West experience, I would recommend that you play the Gary Player or Jack Nicklaus courses.

Great course

First off let me say that Brain the starter for the day was amazing. He really made our experience better explaining the course and offering us water and cooling towel. Course layout away from the mountains was alright nothing to remember, but once you staring playing alongside the mountains it really was breath taking. Only gripe and it is a tiny one was we got here with greens being punched not to long ago. Other than that which of course is normal well worth it.
