PGA WEST Pete Dye Mountain Course

I paid $91 to play the Pete Dye Mountain Course at PGA West, and for the price, it was reasonable. The setting is stunning, with beautiful views throughout the round.

That said, the course layout felt awkward in places, with several holes and tee boxes crowded together unnecessarily on the front nine. Conditioning was only average—the rough had been freshly mowed, leaving unsightly clumps of grass scattered across the course. For a facility of this caliber, that was disappointing. The greens were fine but rolled slow, which I assume is intentional given the extreme undulations Pete Dye is known for.

The biggest issue, however, was pace of play. Tee times were poorly managed, and with a tournament ahead of us, the course backed up to over five hours. That’s simply unacceptable for any course, much less one of this reputation.

I’d consider playing it again, but only midweek when the course is likely to be less congested.

This is already an incredibly difficult course made almost impossible to play by the rough. Very thick rough that consumes the ball. I lost 3 balls on the front nine that landed no more than 5 yards off the fairway. Impossible to find without a spotter. I recommend calling the course before booking to see if the rough has been trimmed to a level where you don't need a spotter to find the ball. The bunkers and greens were OK, but for this price point I expected better. For the average golfer wanting a PGA West experience, I would recommend that you play the Gary Player or Jack Nicklaus courses.

First off let me say that Brain the starter for the day was amazing. He really made our experience better explaining the course and offering us water and cooling towel. Course layout away from the mountains was alright nothing to remember, but once you staring playing alongside the mountains it really was breath taking. Only gripe and it is a tiny one was we got here with greens being punched not to long ago. Other than that which of course is normal well worth it.

In town only for a couple hot summer days so decided to check out PGA west Pete due! Course was in great shape w/a lot of healthy lush grass considering the heat, Layout was awesome and the big rock made for a great but even hotter backdrop! Pace is great this time of year if you don’t mind the heat, staff was great with loading me up with ice and water as well as multiple water and ice stations on course. Greens were a little slow, maybe not use to the grainy Bermuda greens being from NorCal but overall I’d definitely go back and check out the plethora of other courses they have to offer on the massive property! To staff & maintenance crew, keep up the good work!!

Great course. The weather was extremely hot but the staff made sure we had everything we needed to stay safe. Would love to play the course again in cooler weather.

The staff made all the difference between a good time and a great time.

This was a nice course. Every blade of grass was in the right place. Carts were well kept, ran smoothly, and were stocked with lots of water. Greens were true and not too fast. But the starter was very mean. He told us throughout the round that he wanted us off the course by 7:30 (we started at 4), and ultimately kicked us off the course even though we were playing nearly 40 minutes ahead of pace. I made an objection, noting that the cart timer had us well ahead of pace, to which he replied, "I don't care what the cart says, you're playing too slow". It was very clear to me that the starter was simply disinterested in doing his job and as a result, made our experience considerably worse.

Pace of play was slow for the season and it was hot, but the course is very fun and adventurous.

It’s the bees knees. Course was in immaculate condition for the time of year. Greens rolled fast but beautiful views. Will be coming back.

Check in very friendly. Range was stacked with balls and very peaceful with the mountains in the background.

Course conditions were excellent. Greens were firm and 9-10ish stimp-wise. The heat is starting to take a toll but fairways/rough were nice as well. Facilities were good as water and ice were available throughout the course, as well as the roving cart girl. We didn’t eat there after our round but overall very happy with the golf course and current hot deal value.

This course is absolutely fantastic. Great layout, challenging and very well kept. Definitely one of the best in the valley!
