Nice track- terrible maintenance

I have played here many years ago and it was in great shape. It is a Pete Dye so it is challenging but fun. It needs a lot of love and care now! The 'rough' is just whatever will grow and dirt. There is no sand in the traps etc etc. I will not go back.

Great layout. Very poor condition

Sorry to say, but the course was disappointing. Driving range was not in good shape. Need to resod . Way too sandy. Visually course looks terrible. Anything off fairway is in to no grass and or weeds. We use to love this course. It has gone way downhill.

Poor value for money

Bad Start

Called Pro Shop - no answer - so left message to have shuttle cart sent to parking lot to take us to the course. After 5 minutes, called back, still no answer. Waited a bit and called again at which staff answered with laughter in my ear as he finished his conversation with someone in the background. I let him know about the previous calls and he said a shuttle would be sent to pick us up. We waited a bit more, gave up and partner carried both bags from parking lot to the Pro shop (which is a fair walk away). Staff member did apologize when we paid BUT when we were talking to the starter, he paused his conversation with us to say the shuttle was going to pick us up just then and left on a cart to let the shuttle know we no longer needed it! By the time all this had happened, we had no time to warm up on the range.

And adding insult to injury, the GPS on our cart did not work and after calling the shop to notify them and try a couple of things to get it to work, they had to bring us a different cart.

Needless to say, we scored poorly on the first few holes as a result of all the frustration we experienced but did settle down to enjoy the balance of the round by about the 4th or 5th hole.

Well designed and cared for course

PROS: interesting challenging course, well tended and experienced good pace of play. CONS: relatively small thing but we bnever saw drink cart once and the snack/bar were not easily convenient at the turn, so we did not stop.

Westin Dye course

Great value for a resort course. In good shape for the time of year. Pay parking and getting to the clubhouse is a hassle.

Utterly disappointing

My wife and I wanted to golf at the Westin so we booked a time for Friday afternoon as we wanted to golf by ourselves. We arrived at the parking lot and found out from 2 golfers that had played earlier that we needed to wait for a shuttle. No problem, called them up and they came and got us. The sign stating this was covered up and turned around. Glad those guys were there!

We checked in with Adam at the desk, nice enough but when we asked him if they had beer, he said he only had 1 beer left in the clubhouse and he ordered more that morning but it hadn’t come yet, it was 2:20 pm. We could also go way over by the snack bar and get beer if they had any left. There was a beverage cart out on the course he said but we never saw it all afternoon. I told Adam we had a parking ticket to park and he asked if we had it with. I said no and he said why not. I asked him how would we know we had to bring the ticket into the clubhouse? He said it would cost us $30 to park, at which point my wife said we aren't paying $30. He said well maybe the golf cart guys downstairs might have an extra sticker to put on your ticket.

We finally started golfing and were following a older gentlemen and a lady. He was golfing and walking instead of riding in the cart, and the lady kept hitting several balls each time. After 3 holes, they were 2 1/2 holes behind the group in front of them. We finally went pass them on hole # 6 and then it started raining hard. Our day was done and we were not happy.

Came in to the clubhouse and told Adam what had happened. He said”yes they give lessons on the course and try to arrange them accordingly”. I told him that was unbelievable and he said you just need to go around them. I told him how would we know they were giving lessons?? I told Adam that the golf coach should have came back to us and explained the situation. We received a couple rain checks but they expire at the end of the year. We told Adam that we wont be back until next February and he said they might honor the rain checks but you’ll have to just see.

Best part of the day was the nice cart return young girl said she would take care of the sticker needed for the ticket and she rode up with us on our cart to make certain we got out. Now thats customer service. Yes I tipped her.

Will we return?? Guess we will see if they honor the rain check.

Bad Course condition

Multiple bare areas off the the fairways. It’s called ground under repair. Not up to the Pete Dye standards.

Nice Track

We've played this course many times over the years and enjoyed our round today. The staff was friendly and helpful and the pairing that we had was a good one. The fairways, tee boxes and greens are nice. The rough is dry and ranges from dry grass to dirt due to the watering restrictions in place so I guess I can't fault the course; however, it makes play tough sometimes if you are off fairway. And the aesthetics are not as nice as when the entire course is lush and green. Nevertheless, it's not an unusual condition right now. I'd still recommend because we love the layout and the challenge.

PeteDye course

Typical Pete Dye layout.

Small landing areas and many bunkers.

The rough was basically dead grass and dirt hardpan

Bunkers had a thin layer of sand over hard paced sand.

Plays to the high slope rating. Quite tough test.
