Seascape Golf Club
About
Originally Rio Del Mar Country Club, Seascape Golf Club is a classic 18-hole layout perched on the coast highlands of the Monterey Peninsula. Opened in 1926, the course was actually shut down during World War II when it served as a “victory garden” to help grow crops for the nation's war effort. After the war it came back with its new name, but old charm. The golf course is just a half mile from the Pacific Ocean, but it's largely protected by Monterey pines and eucalyptus trees that surround it. Seascape Golf Club features well maintained fairways, strategically placed bunkers and small, tricky greens.

Golf with my lovely Bride! Photo submitted by u849946994 on 03/22/2017
Pace of play
Seascape is generally quite good, but our last round was awful. First, golf carts were restricted to paths only with no warning before we arrived at the course. Second, the driving range was not open, again with no prior warning. Third, and worst of all was the pace of play. We quit after a 2.5 hour front nine and after arriving at the 10th tee to find four, yes four other groups on the hole. The group immediately in front of us was a five some!
Very nice course
It's a great layout and it's a God test for any golfer. The only down side is the course does not drain well and the grass clippings are left on the course and they do pile up. The other down side to booking a tee time on this course is that they make it impossible to cancel your tee time. They have a one year advance notice to cancel or else you get charged the full amount. So if you have a schedule that might change you could be put a green fee. Other than those things, play on my friends.
Aptos golf
It was a beautiful day with the rain starting only as we finished the 18th hole. It is a beautiful course and very playable.
It was special for my wife and I because my father enjoyed playing here some forty years ago!
Still recovering
Winter weather has taken a toll with multiple trees down and muddy spots throughout the course. However, I'm sure the current conditions are a vast improvement over a few weeks ago. Fairways are soft and balls plug rather than roll. Grass in the rough is still quite long since mowing is difficult. Greens have been aerated recently.
NICE DAY, BAD CONDITIONS!
Golf now did not post that greens were aerated. I did not know until I checked in, was a nice day but greens were not good. A lot of down trees and debris all over the entire course.
Course is not playable right now ........
With the exception of the 9th and 18th fairways (the ones you can see from the clubhouse) - the rest of the fairways and rough are not being maintained adequately due to recent storms in the area. Trees are down on numerous holes allowing access for the cart path but blocking sections of the fairways (and its cart path only). Many of the fairways are too soggy to walk on. It was often impossible to find your ball on what would normally be short cut fairway. The greens were just aerated and generally unplayable. They should take the course offline for a week and clean everything up. There is no notice anywhere of the current course condition. What you can control -.pace of play - was monitored but not improved by the marshalls.
Time to Dry Out
Lost a lot of balls not to poor shots because Cali needs a drying out period. Any shots that went high were buried in the mud-fairways. Good shots couldn't be found. Am also old can't see as good anyway other then that it was fine. Great course when it is dry. Couldn't beat your price!
Hilly Tree filled Golf Wonderland!
It was cart path only today, after a rainy past week boy it was muddy. Glad their carts had plenty of juice because it is a hilly course. Lots of tall trees and inclined greens so 2 putt is always great. Stay in the fairway the rough is determined to keep your ball.
Always check in with the clubhouse in the rainy weather. Other courses can have better drainage and not cart path only.
not on time
They where 40min behind, had to ask for a refund because we were not going to be able to finish. They clearly over book the course on a regular basis!
great to get out
This golf course is one of the most beautiful course to play . The layout is magnificent the greens were fast but fair. This is the way I imagine all great course to be like fair but hard.
Fix your divots and open up the snack bar
It's a really beautiful and challenging course and a beautiful day which started out wet and and ended up sunny and breezy. We played under an aeration special, evidently because the greens were punchy, but well filled with sand. Some of them were spongy and some were rock hard, so putting was a challenge and somewhat bumpy, of course. I was dismayed to see that apparently little effort goes on to repair divots in the fairways, unlike nearby (30 miles) Pacific Grove Muni, where the frequent players ban together to maintain the fairways. You don't want into the rough here: it isn't very high but it's a form of Bermuda that you won't like! We would have like to seen the snack bar open when we turned at around 10 AM. Noticed also that it looked like it hadn't been opened in a while. We looked at the restaurant at completion of the round and 11:30 and noticed the only people sitting in there were only having coffee, so we decided to pass. It had been good in the past, but these golf course restaurants kind of come and go. Overall, a good course and a challenging layout where you really need to stay long and straight off the tee and use extra clubs on approach as week as putt out carefully to hit your handicap -- I missed mine by six or seven strokes! We probably won't be playing this course again too soon, because the early morning traffic on Hiway one is horrible from Watsonville northward - just too many folks around here!
aerated right before we played
when we got there found out it was just aerated, but was not disclosed when i booked it. the greens were terrible and one of the groundskeepers was following us on every hole and was brushing and rolling the greens after we played it. when we arrived and paid i said something and they gave us a $40 rate instead of the $42.99 posted discount rate (big whooppee?!) plus the booking fee. i have played there several times and like the course but had a high school buddy all the way from PA for the week and he was very disappointed! they should have offered us a return greens fee or something!!
Greens are tough
Miss hit your puts and your ball could easily roll off the green. Many times the second put was longer then your first one. But I loved the layout. Great course. Just visiting but would love to play it again
Got to play this gem
Super friendly staff and all the golfers were super
Beautiful Day and Great Value
The course was in great shape. Staff was super friendly and for the money I'd play there once a week. Not a very long course but the approach shots can be tricky.
Definitely a challenging course. Make sure you know your iron lengths and you will score well. Some very tricky putting situations. Pace of greens are a bit fast. Nevertheless they're consistent.
Unique and Fair, Awful pace of play
The course winds through a neighborhood. Very unique in that respect. The course plays fair, nothing tricky about it. a lot of elevation change, but if you manage your way around the course, you can get flat lies most if not all of the time.
can't say anything good about the pace of play though. and don't ask the marshalls to do anything, they're just "ambassadors."
