North at Admiral Baker Golf Course

Four of us played the North Course at Admiral Baker Golf Course on 22-Dec-2018 teeing off in the late morning. We could not have asked for a better day. The course was in great shape and we could not have predicted how nice the weather was. The 4 of us were not in any golf shape. I believe none of us had played any golf this year. Our arrival to Admiral Baker also didn't allow for any warmup on the driving range and little or no time to putt..

But we teed off on time. I don't recall seeing anyone directly in front of us. We were unimpeded in our play all day. Despite a few bad holes by all of us, my son and I both took a 10 on the #1 par 5 hole and for me I hit 2 OB left, we managed to complete our round in under 4hrs 30min. No more lost balls but I took 23 putts on the front 9. The back 9 was greatly improved having shot 46 with 16 putts and no penalties.

The weather cooperated through the first 16 holes remaining sunny with a light breeze. But the cloud cover arrived quickly and the temperature dropped precipitously. I almost wished I had a jacket on by the end of the round.

Golf is back in my calendar once again having played just a few rounds since the beginning of 2016. Before then I was playing 2 or 3 times a month when I was not traveling. My index drifted between 14-18 the previous 8 years having played a wide variety of golf courses mostly in San Diego County. With my gypsy golf club (no home course) playing once a month we also made an annual trek in early May each year to Palm Desert, CA. Four or 5 rounds in 3 days.

Admiral Baker will be on my event schedule again soon. Good rates, the course is in great shape, fine amenities and a friendly staff along with the San Diego sunshine makes Admiral Baker a great golfing destination.

When I checked in for my t-time today, I was told my t-time was not on their T-time sheet. I had to show the confirmation email from GolfNow before I was given a new t-time.

The course is in great shape. The greens roll true and the rough is fair. Pace was a bit slow but overall had a great day.

Pace of play is always a concern especially during winter hours. No effort was made to keep players moving at the required speed to complete before dark.

This course never gets bored, every hole a different challenge.

Greens are very fast today, what i prefer.

Really enjoy the layout of the course, I have played it countless times. The bunkers and greens were in excellent shape. Fastest I’ve seen the greens there ever. They definitely have marks as the course sees quite a few golfers. Play was a little slow. 2.5 hours for the front 9. Didn’t get to finish since we teed off at 2pm because of DST.

Really nice course and staff. pace of play was o.k. A lot of divots in the greens. Always enjoy playing Admiral Baker.

Good challenging layout.you get your bang for your buck if you book with golfnow.

Played this course numerous times over the years. Greens could use a little help but the rest of the course is in decent shape. Played in the afternoon and finished under 4.5 hours.

Everything was good. The staff is super. The only beef is not everyone fixes their divots. The course is in good shape.

Pace of play was great. The course is in good shape. The greens were a little rough but not totally bad. Some spots in the fairways had issues but since the weather has been so hot, it is understandable. They need to ban the use of sunflower seeds. Its agravating to go to put and you have a bunch of shells all over the greens.

Beautiful old trees but course was not in good condition. So many bare spots and not because of dry conditions as also very thick grass in places. Very slow play and many errant shots right at you and no one warns you.

Played on a Wednesday. Course was not crowded and in good shape. Perfect weather and pace of play. A good round was had by all.
