Decent course, great value w/ golf now discount
great layout, can tell this course has great history of championship professional golf. Unfortunately the course is a shadow of its former self so if you're expecting TPC quality for $41.. you've got another thing coming.
50% of the greens were fairly sandy and bumpy and a few of the fairway bunkers were full of weeds but for the price you really cant complain. I played the tips and didn't find it too long or difficult, even with a decently tough wind.
would recommend for anyone just trying to play a decent course for a great rate.
Great course.
This course was great. Service and staff were accommodating. Tough but enjoyable course. I would go there again
Terrible condition
The price was much less than I have ever paid but now I know why. I expected the TPC conditions from years past but the course was in the worst shape ever. Weeds in the bunkers, brown fairways and lack of grass, burned greens, and a complete lack of maintenance was evident on every hole. It took 4 1/2 hours to finish on Easter Sunday when it wasn't that busy. Never going back!
Sand EVERYWHERE
A little water here and there. But you are guaranteed to land in a bunker or ten, so you do a bit of club management to avoid it as much as you can. Would love to go back soon. The course is in great shape considering time of the year.
The sandy sandy bay
Great track perfect length as to be expected for a TPC course. Could use some beautification on the course so that it matches the community that it sits with within. Incredible pace of play finished in three hours 15 minutes
Lots of sand, bumpy greens
It was a beautiful day for golf on Easter Sunday, and I had heard that Heron Bay was a very nice course. I was able to get an early tee time at 7:30AM, and the morning fog gave us a spectacular view when approaching the first tee. However, that turned out to be the highlight of the morning. it seems that the economy has had a toll on the course.
The greens were in poor condition with patchy spots, and some crab grass patches on most of them, and the fairways were very dry and hard. This made it very difficult to hit from the short grass. The bests part of the course were the sand traps, which there were MANY, and they had nice fluffy white sand. It's a shame that many of the golfers before us (over a few days) did not have the ediquite to rakethem when they were done playing in them.
Crazy Sand
With over 100 sand traps on the course, this is as close as you will come to playing golf on the beach. I ended up in the traps 3 times but I was shooting a very accurate game. My partner went in 15 times. Prepare to use your sand wedge often!
As for the condition, it seemed pretty dry on the fairways, sandy and substantial until led divots. The greens were all quite rough and the ball bounced a lot when putting. They definitely need to take some care of the course before I will play on here again.
Use to be good
You can tell it was a great course, but the fairway is not in such good shape and the green have holes of grass.
Lots of sand
Half the carts have GPS, our foursome didn't get a gps cart , not many yardage markers on course not even a 150 yard marker . Greens were in bad shape and very slow . Pace of play was brutally slow
heron b ay
I have played this course many times it's very challenging with alot of sand. But the greens were terrible sanded and very slow and bunmpy. Disappointing.
Greens had been recently treated
As always, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. The greens here had been recently treated and the sand on the surface made putting impossible and definitely ruined the experience. No prior notice had been given. Pace of play was snail like, 2.5hrs for 9 holes...with little chance of that improving I made a hasty retreat to the hotel pool and cocktail bar. Challenging first nine holes nevertheless with many (hundreds) of strategically place sand traps. Par 3's were very unremarkable. A shame overall.
sand traps everywhere
played this course before when it was in better shape. the greens were bumpy and there was many barespots in the rough. i knew about the many sand traps, and they were hard to avoid with the wind blowing very hard
Horrible greens/fairways
Every year I try to play Heron Bay. I was looking forward to playing it on Saturday. However, the greens and fairways are in the worst shape of any course in S FLA that I've played this Winter/Spring. The $72 green fee for conditions this poor are outrageous. I was embarrassed that I recommended Heron Bay to my buddies.
Also starter allowed a twosome to follow a threesome to follow foursome (as 1st 3 groups of day) - can't make this up
Great design but needs TLC
First time playing this course after seeing it for many years on TV during the Honda classic. Great design but greens need TLC. thThey did roll true though.
Bunkers were inconsistent and had too many large pebbles (hence the TLC comments)
Played it for $40.00 during the week so still great value so I will play it again when I'm back in Florida.
What Happen To This Course!?!?!?!?
Unbelievable what has happen to this course. I have been golfing here since 1999 when it was in fact a TPC course and when in fact the Honda Classic was held here. Now since Clublink acquired it and several others Heron Bay seems to be the one suffering lack of attention and revenue. It seems most of the revenue Clublink generates they put into Eagle Trace to keep it a true TPC course .. since Eagle Trace was the first of all the TPC course .... So why is that you over seed, sand on greens, crab grass on tee boxes and some greens and you still try and squeeze $69.00 a round .. that is crazy! Come on guys get it together ... so many people love this course and want to see it back where it used to be. What is it going to take?
Getting better but needs some time
Let me preface by saying I last played Heron Bay when it was a TPC course some years ago and in amazing shape. That is not the course today but I think in another year will be closer. The layout is still fantastic and the properties around the course are very nice. It's a nice scenic ride around the course. Unfortunately, my understanding is that the course suffered after TPC sold it and now Clublink is new owner and putting money back into it. Still, not a bad deal for around 60 bucks thru Golfnow. The greens were not in best shape compared to the others courses we played. They are in some repair with plenty of sand-dressing. I really like this course layout and think the greens will get better. It can be very challenging and fun. Fairways and Tees were in decent shape. We played with some great guys we were paired up with so had a lot of fun. We played a composite course at around 6600 yards. I'd play it again but more likely at the twilight rate until greens cure. Had a great mahi sandwich afterwards!
Ryan from WHB, NY
This is a great track. Very challenging. There are plenty of bunkers to play out of. Definitely a shot makers golf course. Greens were in great shape.
Greens need work
Greens are not in good shape. Fairway,s ok but rock hard. Bunkers are plentiful and sand inconsistent. Carts in bad shape. Gps non-functional.
rough shape
the staff were wonderful and after that the experience went down hill the greens are in very bad shape and the rest of the course at below average at best.
Im a club link member in Canada and this was very sub par for club link standards.
won,t play this again. only played nine holes and left its bad when you do a 2 putt rule here in florida at this time of the year
save your money play something else
Ohhhh the Greens
Everything was great about the course except the greens.. They look like they had a fungus and trying to get them back. Other wise what a fun course to play around
