Superbe terrain en très bonne condition
A recommander sans faute car très beau challenge de golf pour amateur.
overrated
Tons of sand - not a problem. Mediocre greens - more off-color and brown - not a problem. No starter - no problem. 2:45 back nine - major problem. No ranger - major problem. A group at least two groups behind us decided to play through us and the foursome in front of us - without asking and with no room for them. They just went to the tee a hole ahead of us (the foursome ahead of us was on the green at the time) and waited for the foursome in the fairway to hit - and then they teed of, as the foursome in front of us stood on the tee too. This backed up EVERYONE - so we called the pro shop - but they don't have a ranger so nothing was done. For what they charge, the conditioning is just acceptable, the holes not at all memorable, and the playing time of almost five hours too much to bear - I won't be coming back.
Sands of Time and $$
if you like the sand, this is your course, great value @ 29.00. that was the golf now rate, and is quite the deal, would prob even be good deal up to around $50.00, fairways were average, and greens ran true, enjoyable time, even in the sand
Course overview
This was my second time playing this course. My first experience was wonderful. The layout is great. I was dissappointed in the course condition. It has deteriorated from 4.3 to 3.7. Would only recommend if the price was right. However if the course condition can get back to where it should be, it would be highly recommend. The other issue was very slow play due to no marshals, 4:55 mins too slow.
The course was in good shape but. ........
The course was in good shape but our cart died on the fourth hole. Had to wait for a replacement as others played through. Unacceptable.
good value
Course built for tour events, a bit run down since, but still great value. Only annoyance was a members 5-some few groups ahead of us which made it a 4:45 round.
mostly in good shape
Facility and course is coming around shape wise. Pace of play was good, greens were rolling well...not lightning fast but adequate. However, it would be nice is the fairway bunkers were groomed by maintenance. Footprints and uneven lies everywhere. Needless to say that nobody else playing rakes their bunker play either.
Good Layout, Lots of Sand
This was my first time playing Heron Bay. Fairways were generously wide. An overabundance of sand bunkers dominates this course. There are some variances in the quality and maintenance of bunkers. My overall impression of this course was that the tee boxes, fairways, and rough were maintained at a disappointing standard. Even so, this is a challenging course that requires you to think out your shots (take the sand out of play) and be very accurate as you attack the greens (surrounded by sand). I would definitely play this course again but next time try to place my shots more carefully. With some TLC this course could look like a PGA championship course.
Course was in good shape
Some of the bunkers could use some attention. Had an uninvited guest at 18 tee (raccoon) looking for food.
Great course
If this were located next to an ocean it would be a 500$ per round course. Very well maintained. Not too difficult. I'll be back
Do you want to play a good course ?
Well then , skip this one. Such a great track being ruined by neglect. Bathrooms were dirty. Sand Traps had one rake even though they were very large. So- no one rakes the traps. This place has potential but not with this management team in place.
This was our third trip to Heron Bay, once a year, we have seen it disintegrate. This is our last time there.
You want fun, skip this place.
Heron Bay, Coral Springs Florida
Played this course on two previous occasions and enjoyed it unfortunately although the course itself was in pretty good shape the golf carts and flag pins were less then satisfactory. It appears they removed the GPS units from the carts so determining distance and shape of the hole you were playing was tough, especially since the yardage markers were not very easy to find and the only course map you had was the one at the tee box. Four of the pins, I think holes 2, 4, 11 and 15 were broken in one fashion or the other (either flag missing or pole cracked and bent over in the wind). A shame as this is a great course that uses sand trap to control play and up your technical skill.
Heron Bay, Dull as ever
This course continues to disappoint although it is getting worse since they have obviously severely cut back on staff. How bad was it? Let's start with Mark McCumber probably ended his design career with this course. It is flat boring and an exercise mostly in missing fairway traps. The greens are unimaginative as is the whole layout. There is a reason the Honda Classic left this place. Now that's the good part.
Whoever bought it decided to run it on the cheap. There are no longer complimentary balls on the driving range. You have to buy them out of a machine like any public muni, they did not have enough golf carts to handle everyone, they are so understaffed there was not starter, there were no rangers which made for a six hour round since there were two fivesomes in front of us, lunch took forever since they had only one poor guy working the bar and serving. Other than that "how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?" I only went back because I had a client who wanted to play the former home of the Honda Classic. I warned him. Now he knows. He walked away like many others......unimpressed. I was astounded to see they were charging $165 for out of towners???? Due to the poor design I would rate this course below most of the South Florida courses in the area, let alone the premier ones. I can name a number of superior layouts down here. Do not waste your money on this place. They need to bulldoze it and come up with a better design, especially considering the toney neighborhood.
nice course
Good course for the money plays fast lots of sand traps so bring your wedge. Overall good course
you can tell this course is hurting for $$$$$$
But the starter was very rude....and I mean rude.....the gps systems on half the carts are gone......when we ask for discount for not having gps ....they just laughed
I would not recommend this course .....they are hurting for $$$$...... Sand traps ....lots of them ....half of the traps should be taken out ......they do not have the $$$$ to maintain them
Course review
Very poor condition of the balls washer and very few rakes around the sand trap
Bring your sand trap game
Course was a good value and was in good shape although there were some areas under repair. However they are keeping up with the repairs and that's important to maintain the course.
I would like to see some of the sand traps removed though.
Course in excellent condition, nice surprise
I have played Heron Bay several times, mostly because it's a first rate designed course & because it is usually cheap. The only downside, other than it's a good 40 minute drive for me, the condition of the course has been fair to poor.A very nice surprice this week, the course was in the best shape I have ever seen it, it was near excellent. The reason I was told is that they recently had an Amature Championship there so they prepared it for that. Please keep it up! What a shame to let a course like this get into the shape that it's often been..
Hard to believe the Pros once played here....
The staff tried - truly tried - to make it a good golf experience. BUT....They didn't have enough working golf carts to send people out on time ...the driving range was open but you have to go out and fetch your own balls as the golf ball picker was broken (careful you don't get hit!)....I've seen outhouses much cleaner than the on-course toilet facility - the urinal didn'tt flush - it overflowed and the place smelled to high heaven - find a bush, it's far better...
It's a place to play golf if you don't have any other choices, but far from the image it seeks to create...not a "pro" faculty....
JMs Review
Heron Bay is a great course and former host of the Honda Classic. Not much water, beautiful homes around the course and most definitely more sand than the beach!
