A long way from it's glory days
Layout is good and it used to be a challenging track because of the layout. But now it's a challenging track because of conditions. Poor bunker sand and conditions - there are no rakes - slow greens, little roll in the fairways, locker rooms off limits are now used for storage facility, restaurant/bar closes early. It's a shadow of what it was before ClubLink acquired this facility. Seems like they are letting it go just holding it for land value for future development.
Course under repair
GolfNow should mark this course with a maintenance warning.
No one told us in advance that it was cart-path only until the cart GPS told us to back out of the fairway.
No one told us in advance that all fairway bunkers are unmaintained and marked as waste bunkers.
No one told us in advance that the fairways haven't seen a mower for several days.
I can certainly walk 18 holes, I actually do walk when playing back home, I can accept that there are areas which needs the staff priority more that fairwaybunkers. And I can hit balls from the fairways pretending I am hitting from the light rough.
On the positive side, the new greens were great, and the course is under development and has a ambition to regain its reputation from 10 years ago, but as per today they have a long way to go.
I was looking for something else for my vacation day out with my wife, and I my disappointment is based on the fact that there were no warnings for this course so please GolfNow, let other golfers be warned so expectations match actual conditions.
Boring
128 bunkers, you are going to be in them. On a windy day you are going to be in even more. The starter had no control over the flow of the times. 25 minutes pastt my tee time as a single as 3 threesomes went out while I waited. No ranger, we had a Canadian couple playing multiple balls until we finally confronted them about it.
Still a work in progress, but I feel patience will be rewarded at some point...
First things first... You can see they are trying! It all starts with the greens and the recent renovation, which I feel, is starting to pay off. They are still a bit slow, but the quality, consistency and future hope for the greens, is now a positive, whereas they were previously a major disappointment. The fairways were average, the tee boxes were below average, the sand traps and newly indicated waste areas (good idea, BTW..) were inconsistent, the rough was cut and playable, but still difficult to play out of, but that's fine. You can find your ball now in the rough...
Now for some opportunities to improve the experience... aside from conditions, which I feel they are working on, and are ultimately a factor of time, they need to improve the operational process at the start of the round. (confusion in the staging area, no one appeared to be controlling the operation, as players were left to kind of help themselves), Improvements need to be made to the cart service on the cart (we didn't see anyone until the green at 18, not sure why). Not much else to be disappointed with.
I will compliment the young lady in the clubhouse, when after I paid, commented to me to please enjoy my round and play well! I thought that was a wonderful touch from her. That set me in a positive frame of mind to deal with the confusion that was lurking outside the clubhouse door! LOL...
I felt the price of $45.00, through GolfNow, was fair or slightly higher than the value being delivered on that day. I'm hopeful that they will keep the price, throughout the season in this range, as the course is not a $60 or above course, at this time. At the $40.00 - $50.00 price, they will be presenting a good value for the local golfers that will support this course long after the season closes.
good course
This course is better than most courses on GolfNow...but it is typical FL course. Hard to be anything but on flat land. A lot of weeds but they were being treated. Greens in very good condition, but could have been a little faster. Bag boys very helpful.
Nice new greens very pleased after reading bad reviews will come back for sure.
Great job with new greens
Very pleased
Booked already for next week twice
What Happened to this Course ??
I have played this golf course numerous times in the past. 20 years ago this was a TPC Golf Course. The original layout is still there. The caring staff is friendly and go out of their way to help you, from the bag drop , to the check in and to the starter. It was good to see smiles. Once on the golf course, my smile dissipated to almost tears. I saw that what was once a great championship golf course is dying a slow death. The greens were in good shape, thats about it. It was difficult to determine the fairways from the rough. Lots of growing weeds and different kinds of grass in what was once pristine fairways and tee boxes. The sand traps are still there but barely maintained. There was no rake on either cart, nor was there sand in the sandbox to fill our divots, or does it matter anymore ?
I blame the conditions on ownership. Decide if you want a basic bare bones golf course and don't rely on its past to collect these kind of fees.
Course should be closed
The conditions were unplayable and the course should be closed down. They should be embarrassed to charge any amount of money. I would have walked of at the first hole except for the fact I prepaid on GolfNow. It would be impossible to describe how horrible the conditions were. I would recommend that GolfNow remove them from there services
Condition
Not worth $30 with current conditions.
Should have listened to previous reviews
I am generally reluctant to complain when I am playing at a discounted rate. Having said that I actually felt cheated out of my money. Went off early with two friends and once we'd paid we were told we had to start on ten and carts were only allowed in the rough.
A stronger warning of what we were getting ourselves into should have been given. I'd read the reviews noting long rough but figured how bad could it be. Let me tell you the course we played was virtually unplayable. We lost multiple balls that weren't more than 20 feet off the fairway and we'll in play. The rough had been cut but was still long and there was so much grass clippings that you just could not find your ball!
I'm sure people would say keep it in the fairway then but we even lost balls in the fairway that plugged because the course was so wet!
We were so frustrated that we just quit after 9 holes. Playing on would have been self abuse and we just couldn't do it. The course should either be free to play or they shouldn't of close it until its actually playable.
Awful experience, they basically took our money for a horrible experience. Can't image playing there again it left such a bad taste in my mouth.
Cow pasture
Heard this course was reopening after being closed for the summer to make improvements. Decided to give it a chance again after taking it off our rotation in the past due to the steady decline from its hay day. Should have never reopened. The worst. Don't waste your time coming here.
Had High Hopes
Was excited for the renovations and if the course could return to previous quality.
Greens were actually pretty solid, they did not cut them the morning we played so a bit on the slower side but overall they were easily the best part of the course.
I hope that someone that works there reads this because if you can make one change, will help the course and experience dramatically. Have to cut the rough. Have to, have to, have to cut the rough. Multiple times had hit shots (everyone in the group) into rough and 0 chance in finding it. Looked for balls that were in play the entire round. Everything plugged and adds so much time/frustration to the round. Nobody likes losing balls that are in play.
You guys are sending folks out 7.5 mins apart and you are just asking for a horrible experience when everyone has to look for balls that are in play. Seems like an easy fix, but they have to cut the rough down.
Fairways were patchy in places and the old front 9, definitely played nicer/better. Sand in bunkers were also pretty inconsistent, some were very fluffy others were hard compacted.
But honestly, none of that matters if the rough stays the same height. Not enjoyable golf experience as played.
Bad shape
First time playing Heron Bay. This course needs a lot of work. Greens were OK, and they were just renovated this summer. If they were cut and rolled they would have been better. Greens were actually the best part of the course.
However the rest of the course was horrible if I'm being honest. Bunkers are inconsistent, and there are a ton of them so I can see why it's hard to maintain them. The rough hadn't been mown in weeks. Very hard to find your ball even a few feet off the fairway. Course was absolutely soaked. Balls plugged everywhere. Being in south Florida this course needs better drainage bc it hasn't rained that much recently.
Overall just not an enjoyable golf experience bc of the conditions. Even the fairways were very long grass and lots of weeds in the fairways.
If it wasn't so wet and inconsistent, the layout would be fun to play.
We also requested service from beverage cart and never showed up. They will not get anymore of my money.
Ready for a renovation
Played here for first time in several years. The staff indicates its closing for the summer to redo the greens. Frankly the greens were best part of the course, altho on this day the greens were slow not cut short or rolled, Traps are inconsistent and every hole has plenty of them. Tees were weed infested and not in good shape. Fairways were mostly good but too many weeds and some were in need of more grass.
We played the white tees and from there the course is not that difficult but there are two more sets of tees that can make it a real challenge, but the holes look too much alike.
Heron Bay
Great course for the value, the challenge and the beauty. One of the best courses in South Florida.
Great course for the money
Some of the bunkers need work but overall it's a good course
Superb Greens / Weedy Rough
This is one of my favorite Northwest Broward County courses. The rough is pretty weedy now, but the greens are in great shape! The course is closing next month for rejuvenation. The course needs some TLC, but not an overhaul. I hope ClubLink will also pay attention to some of the details often overlooked, i.e.condition of the carts, tee box signage, ball washers, water cooler containers, mold on the clubhouse roof, and some severely cracked concrete paths, The club formerly hosted the Honda Classic and had superb conditions. I hope it returns soon.
Lots of traps
Lot of traps protecting the greens, if you go take extra club to fly the greens
