What happened to Heron Bay?
I played this course 10 years ago. The fairways, tee boxes, and greens were in excellent condition.
NOW the course has been let go to the dogs.
The rough and fairways are nearly identical. They are full of weeds, dust and poorly kept. The bunkers of which there are double any normal course are hard pan dirt with some muddy areas. They had not been raked in a week. I doubt they have a bunker tractor rake machine.
The clubhouse is dated and tired. We entered the grill room at 2pm and was told there was no soup or wings. We were the only table occupied and a salad plus three cheese steaks took 40 minutes to prepare.
I'll never play here again, that is for sure.
Unique layout with countless huge traps
After a prolonged wait for a golf cart, I entered the "World of Sand". This is a pretty and unique course charactered by multiple and huge bunkers on every hole. Maintenance can't be easy and it shows although the greens, though slow, rolled OK. On a windy day, this course is not for high handicappers as they spend their day hitting two or three long bunker shots each hole.
Good Layout, Terrible Staff
Course was in decent shape with the greens being average for this time. Cart was falling apart first of all second of all the starter was rude and was late for our tee time as he claimed he call our names but were standing on the green practice putting next to the starter and heard nothing. Pace of play was so horrendous the twosome in front of us hit up on the three some in front of them to try and keep up the pace of play. Called the pro shop to Bob and asked if there was a ranger on the course and was told no. He took my cart number and hole number but never saw anyone from the staff. Needless to say the rest of the round was just as bad and no word from staff. TERRIBLE STAFF and not worth my $60 to play. It's a shame.
Thanks for your review. Sorry you feel the staff wasn't friendly. We constantly review better customer service practice's in order to improve the golfer's experience.
NEEDS WORK
4:45 round, painfully slow, no rangers. A lot of water but really not in play that much. Sand is another story. Maybe more than the Gobi! Too much really. Fairways pretty good, greens fair at best, tee boxes poor. Many bunkers poor.
We have read your review. The average pace of play at Heron Bay during season is 4:45. Pace of play is monitored by our GPS system in the Clubhouse.
Needs work
Playing at a former TPC course was fun. It could use some care.
We read your review. We are scheduled to re-grass the greens on the golf course this summer. We hope to see you again in September.
Would play again for the price
The course was in average condition. Very similar to most other courses on sites such as GolfNow. You could tell it used to be a great course so the layout is better than average. A ton of bunkers.Biggest downside was that the pace of play was over 5 hours and there was no ranger. Ill probably play again though to give it another chance because if pace of play was better it would be well worth the $40 golfnow tee time. If pace of play is better its a solid option until the premier card comes back.
Thank you for your positive comments. We hope to see you again.
Bad condition of the greens
The greens were not in optimal conditions compared to last year.
We read your review, We are scheduled to re-grass the greens this coming summer. We hope to see you in September once the course re-open.
my Home Course
disappointment. cart path only. course was very wet. not a pleasant day. This was one of my favorite courses. To see the condition deteriorate to this point is upsetting.
Thanks for your review, we had a lot of rain in January and February which affected the golf course playing conditions, We hope to see you during dryer conditions.
DON'T PLAY THIS COURSE!,
Worst experience of my 40+ years of playing golf. Day started off with Pro shop not honoring price quoted on their own ClubLinks telephone service. Even though it was only a couple of dollars, and I verified with the phone rep exactly what I would be paying, the pro shop refused to budge and even said "if you don't like it, you can leave!" Besides that terrible customer service, the course is in terrible condition -- wet grounds, greens with divots, no rakes, no pin placement indicators (all flags are same color). Plus, they sell a contest for one of the Par 3's that significantly slows down play. 5+ hour round today.. Save your money!!!
Heron Bay Going Down Hill
My wife and I have played this course many times over the last decade. When we played on 1/13/16 it will be our last time. There had been some moderate rain the day before, but the course was like playing on a marsh. It was soaked and squishy. No one had marked off any area as unplayable. The carts were dirty and I felt like it was going to fall apart. The on course bathrooms were disgustingly dirty. In fact one of the ladies rest rooms had the door handle broken off and couldn't be used. The landscaping crew had no consideration for the golfers. When hitting a shot they would just drive right by or keep working right near the tee boxes or greens. They have not been trained to respect the players. Good-bye Heron Bay. You are off of our playing list.
Look for something else
Great facilities and friendly staff! Specially Jimmi the starter, which accommodate us, even though i arrived late! Great course with lots of bunkers, very well protected greens! You need to be accurate on pars 4's! The course have very bad drainage, cart path only and dirty shoes and pants. We needed to move thenballs to the rough to hit! Even though made GIR! Nonenof thenplayers in front fixed divots or marings on greens, it was a war zone! Many of thengreens had turf builder all over and the bunkers where hard some of them with water! Its a shame, the course layout, thenclub and scenery is amazing, dont know why dont do more maintenance or fix the drainage! They will have many more players and money!
She ain't what she used to be
Once one of the best in South Florida. This magnificent course has
fallen into a fast tail spin.Greens were very slow, all ball marks were filled with sand not repaired.Fairways were very wet, cart paths only, poor drainage due to high water level of the abutting stream.
Call before you make a Tee time, ask about course conditions because she ain't what she used to be.
Once a great test but has now gone downhill
We played after a considerable amount of rain in the previous week and as a result the course was extremely wet, which was understandable. We have played this course in the past when it was a stop on the PGA Tour but today's course was possibly one step above a municipal layout. The golf carts are dirty, the golf club Pro Shop has little inventory the whole course is poorly maintained. We got the feeling the facility is running short of cash. At $41 we wondered why so cheap, now we understand, its not worth even that price.
Can I get a golf cart??????? Is anybody working????
We pull up to this beautiful place, with not an employee in sight! We dropped our bags I stayed with them as my husband parked the car (we didn't see employees). While I waited for my husband to come back from parking the car I was wondering to myself is this the" Heron Bay" everyone talks about? Not a soul to greet us!!!! There were NO GOLF CARTS, thank God a twosome just returned their cart, the cashier who checked my husband in took they key out of their cart and stuck it in a random cart just parked there, which by the way had no GPS like all the other carts on the course! Now lets talk about the golf..... Get to the tee box and there is a twosome waiting to tee off , with a foursome behind them, we were after the foursome I think...because there was no starter and it was actually "our" tee time! We waited 15 minutes on every tee box. falling way behind schedule, then out of the blue on the 6th hole another twosome from 4 holes behind us just decides they're gonna join us!.
I'm actually exhausted writing this , about as bad as trying to get in the first 9 holes! (3 hours and 10 minutes later)
Go to make the turn and there are 2 foursomes and a twosome waiting on the box!!! Knowing we would never get the back 9 in before dark, we went back and played the first nine again. (actually the first 3 holes) After waiting there each hole we decided to call it quits!!! Keep in mind we are from Michigan and have traveled to Florida to golf certain courses...Heron Bay being one of them...we never got to see the whole course, but we paid the whole price!!!!
This place has really gone down the tubes. Last time I played there in October - HORRIBLE!! 3 inch weeds in the middle of the fairway! anything in the 1st cut of rough was actually lost (unless you stepped on it). I won't play there again untill I see a steady stream of positive comments
Lot's of sand traps
Good course for the money...recommend a ranger to push playing and enforce fixing ball marks on greens..played 16 holes only due slow playing.
Overrated quality
Grass on tee boxes has not been treamed in long time and lots of divots. The course was like a swamp. Heron Bay is famous for its bunkers which have not been tendered to either. Pace of play was horrendous, I managed to play 9 holes in 3 1/2 hours then I quit. The only bright side is attention and frendliness of the staff.
Heron bay no more
Teed off at 7:45am, Mud tracks every fairway and rough, course needs to dry out. Fairway bunkers are neglected, weeds every where, greens super slow, lots of divots on the greens, no attendant after round, snack bar does not open until 11. Stinky water in the ball cleaners. Ant hills all over the course, there is even a sign, beware of ant hills. Course conditions are shameful for being heron bay. What is management doing? Won't be back until these poor conditions are rectified.
This course was very wet!!!
I arrived an hour early so that I could hit some balls at the range, only to find out that the range was closed because the picker was broken. The course doesn't drain very well. Lost several balls in the fairway because they plugged. Pace of play was slow, it took 5 hours to play 18 holes.
Thank you for your review, We are currently working on both the golf course and the customer service practices to improve the golfer's experience.
