Heron Bay
Very challenging with sand bunkers everywhere .
The greens where great and true.
I had a great time
Fire Ants Everywhere.
In addition to being almost unplayable because of water soaked fairways there were fire ant hills everywhere. Pass on this one. Not a place to have an enjoyable round.
Underrated by the locals
This course used to host the Honda Classic several years ago. According to some people down there once the course lost the tournament the conditions went downhill. However I decided to give this a shot at the great rates they are offering. I have played a lot of golf this year mostly in New Jersey where I live but I would rate this course one of the better ones in the area. Apparently they have hired a new head greenskeeper and it's really showing. I truly enjoyed the 2 rounds I played while visiting family in Florida and will most definitely play this course again. Conditions were impeccable and the pace of play was great. Course has it's challenges but is very fair like most south Florida courses. Water comes into play on a few holes but for the most part the challenge is the approach shots and avoiding the bunkers off the tee. I have played over 100 rounds this year and would rate this experience as one of the best. Do yourself a favor and give the course a shot especially if under $50 with cart. The staff and starter is very friendly and I have nothing bad to say about this place. I have no idea why it's fallen out of favor with the locals because the value is awesome. Unlike most Florida courses the houses do not come into play. It's truly a great place if you're visiting the area.
Goat Farm
5 1/2 hr. To play, fair ways need work, if you land in the ruff your ball is gone. The red ants are everywhere. Wouldn't let my X-Mother Inlaw to play there.
Lost its glory
Used to be very well maintained course but not anymore. New owners don't seem to be putting any money back into the course or the facilities. Fairway bunkers with weeds growing in them, lack of sand in green side bunkers, slow greens, etc. It's just not what it was 5 years ago.
Most disappointing course played
Very disappointing conditions
Bunkers looked like they had not been maintained in weeks
Overall course conditions were poor
Club link should be embarrassed to include this course in their portfolio
So so course
The staff was great. The course not so much in my opinion. The fairways were ok but not a fan of the rest of the course. Rough was not fun and lots and lots of bunkers. Pace was slow more than likely due to bunkers. I would not recommend this course to anyone if you can't hit out of fairway bunkers. The food was great.
Slow pace but great value
$31 on Golfnow was a bargain. Fairways weren't horrible but they weren't in great shape either. Lots of sand. Pace of play, especially on the back nine was almost unbearable (5 hour round). But for $31 I would go back
At one time it might have been a good course.
The day we played the course it was very windy, but the condition of the course leaves a lot to me desired. No one was at the bag drop, the pro shop had a sign to watch for fire ants on the holes. Markings for the holes did't exist. The condition of the back nine was awful, the grill was not open and no one seemed to care if you played. The golf cart was dirty and still had cobwebs where the cup holders were. Very disappointing.
Save your money
The fairways were the worst I have seen in the 3 years I have been playing there. Weeds and long grass. Almost like hitting out of the rough. The rough was so long that the ball was completely hidden. Greens were OK, but on the slow side. Don't know what Clublink has been doing since they purchased the course, but not what they promised their members.
Very wet
Unless there was a major rain that hit the course that I'm unaware of, the course was extremely soaked for no explainable reason. It appears that they have a drainage problem that doesn't allow the course to dry out. The sand traps (of which there are many) were in horrible condition. Greens were in good shape and the staff is great. It's a shame the course is in such poor shape considering it was once a top rated course
Great Golf Course in Really nice Community
Course was great. Staff was very professional. Fairly tough course. Make sure you sign up for the $5 hole in one contest on the par 3 eighth for $5,000. One of the guys in our group was really close to winning. As I mentioned in the tips section, play a tee forward because this was a PGA TOUR stop. Have fun and enjoy the views.
Slogging It
Recent torrential rains had drowned much of the course, but while a lot of the fairways were squishy (preventing some of them from being mowed) the greens held up remarkably well. Course was still eminently playable and McCumber's design was his usual high quality. Definitely a course I'd revisit.
Muddy but would like to play again.
I played on 9/27 and the course was soaked from recent rains; cart path only. Some holes should have been closed as I was walking through standing water and a few inches of mud to get to my ball that was in the fariway. Greens were in nice condition. The hole in one $5000 challenge on 8 is a fun addition. I was 3' feet from the hole!
It may have been due to the recent weather but the landscaping was overgrown and weeds in most of the ornamental grasses around the course. They should defintely have a Ranger monitor the course when its cart path only. I saw a number of carts driving in the fairways and creating ruts. I'm from the Naples area, but I would play again when back on the East Coast of Florida.
Poorly drained course
We were looking forward to playing 18 on this course, as it looks fun and challenging. The entrance to the course was grand, and the clubhouse was incredible! Unfortunately for us, we booked a tee time the first Saturday, after an entire week of heavy rains. We were the first foursome teeing off, on a cart path only morning. However, none of us expected to be in 4 inches of mud in the fairway, as we approached our first shot off the box. This course has very poor draining, and was incredibly wet and muddy. It would not have been a fun day on the course. Heron Bay should have done the right thing for everyone, and shutdown the course for the entire day due to the very poor course conditions. Since they didn't look after anyone's best interests, we made the call to double back to the clubhouse after our first shot. In all fairness to their members and new clients, the best thing would have been to let everyone know how bad it truly was, before they accepted our payment. After returning to the clubhouse we did all get a full refund, but the attendant didn't seem happy about doing that for all of us. Will try to golf this course again, but only during dry season, as I don't enjoy golfing in a swamp.
Course should have been closed
All the rain the week before close the course.
It was cart path only and we almost lost our shoes walking out to the fairway each hole.
Great tee shots resulted in plug lies each hole. BRUTAL experience..
A Former TPC Honda Classic Course Now A Dirt Track
STAY AWAY!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS DUMP!! I've been playing this course for 20 years...actually learned to play golf here when it first opened. Unfortunately and without a doubt, this is the WORST CONDITION I've ever seen the course and facilities. On a recent steamy Saturday I arrive to the property and check in at the Pro Shop. Unfortunately there is NO AC and the room is being cooled by an industrial sized fan. I want to grab a muffin before I head out, but the CLUBHOUSE RESTAURANT IS CLOSED. The new head Pro also tells us that there's NO CART SERVICE on the course today (on a Satruday..really?) and to watch out for the ANT PILES EVERYWHERE. The bunkers have no sand, and many were large dark and deep ponds of mosquito larvae ridden water. I was a member when this was a TPC course, hosting the Honda Classic, when it was a pristine Audubon Society certified golf course. ClubLink SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES, allowing this once great course to deteriorate to such a terrible condition...it's nothing more than a dirt track now. Finally, Dear Mr. Sahi (ClubLink CEO), just in case you wondering, I wanted to let you know that I won't be renewing my Sports Membership this year. ;-(
They've let this course go...
Needs some TLC... The fairways were very messy and the grounds needed to be kept up
Course going down
I've played this course many times and unfortunately the conditions have really deteriorated recently. The rough was unbelievably overgrown to the tune of losing balls 3' off the fairway. There were dead spots right in front of greens. The greens were probably among the slowest I've played in years (compared strictly to other public courses). The bunkers are waste areas with club sole destroying gravel in it. Also the club got rid of the GPS units on the carts. Maybe I'm biased because I've played the course when it was in much better condition but I was very disappointedl.
Great day of golf at Heron Bay
The course was in good condition but what really impressed our foursome was how friendly the staff were. From the attendant at the bag drop, the personnel in the pro shop, the started and the young man that clean our clubs after the round, all of them were very accommodating.
