Great Old School Course
Every couple of months I meet my buddy halfway between San Diego and L.A., usually in Orange County. I had heard of Dad Miller before but never played here. We were both pleasantly surprised by the condition and the layout of this classic course. It's located in the middle of urban Anaheim. The surrounding area is a little crusty but the course was fantastic. The staff was super friendly as well. The layout is perfect for me and my buddy - we're both high handicappers. The course features wide fairways and is mostly flat. The fairways were in great shape and the greens were just about perfect. The course is challenging in places with some old trees and water hazards.
We were grouped with a really nice 70-something guy and we had a great time! I wish we had this same kind of course in North County San Diego, where I live. I would definitely play this course again. Also, surprisingly it wasn't crowded and we were able to complete our round in 3.5 hours - which was icing on the cake!
Nice Muni/Friendly staff
This course is nothing out of this world, but they have a friendly staff the course was in a good condition. A few gimmicky holes, but overall a good value and a fun course. I will play here again.
The Course is Tired
Most of the course is playable. The back 9 is a little rough. The course, clubhouse, restaurant is tired. Anaheim needs to put some money into this course or it will be too far gone. It could be a very nice course. The Long Beach courses in comparison are much nicer.
Nice little course
A simple course, somewhat odd layout, but fun and challenging. Good value for he money. Not sure why rough is so long, it'd not "the open". Balls a easily lost in rough and there's too much time spent looking, which affects pace of play. Suggestion; cut the rough and speed up play!!!
nice value, good pace
For a SoCal muni course the pace of play was outstanding, 4:15 for 18 holes. We waited a little on the last 3 holes but this is a miracle around here. The course is typical too, condition typical with all the play it sees but the greens were in really good condition and the bunkers were quite nice too.
management after rain
Management after rain was very poor, so it was very uncomfortable. When I saw the field and fairway, it looked like to play normally but they didn't permit to use cart. I think they were very lazy.
bad bad management by club house staffs
Our tee time was 12:30, but we teed off at 1:15; It was 45 minutes delay.
Therefore we could not play the last 3 holes due to darkness.
According golfers that were waiting, it had been delayed due to the fact that the club house took a number of extra walk-ins where all tee times were already fully booked. I would guess some extra 20 golfers were squeezed in all morning.
It was terrible management for extra money.
Shot making
Greens were in very good shape. Rough was very long which meant hitting fairways a must. Tree lines, bunkers and doglegs made for shot making. Pacde was very good for a Wednesday at just under 4 hours.
Fun Course with moments
Fun Course Challenging moments on the back nine. Good for most levels of golfers. Spacing of groups was nice.
Nice, shorter course
First time playing this course. It was in very good shape and I really enjoyed it. It's shorter (5892 from Blues, 5622 from Whites) which is nice for a shorter hitter like myself. I played from the Whites, but probably should have played from the Blues... but I was competing against a much better player and had to keep our match fair. If you're a gambler and shorter hitter, this will be a course you want to play.
The wind was a much bigger factor on the back nine... I'm not sure if it just got stronger then, or if the back is just more open to the wind.
Almost had my 2nd lifetime Ace on #9... unfortunately it stopped right on the edge! :(
New Year's Eve round
Course played well considering it was busy as usual but most groups kept pace. Greens played well fairways are dried up a bit winter golf but still a fun course.
Brown Fairways
The fairways were brown and a little rough - we played winter rules and everything was fine.
Severely drought affected.
Got a really inexpensive round for two with a cart on Tee Times.
Given the watering restrictions I can accept the mostly brown and bare fairways, but the pace of play was terrible--we teed off at 12:15 pm but had to quit on # 17 because of bad light at 5:10 pm. The greens were green, reasonably quick but a little bumpy.
The staff were extremely accomodating, but while slow play is the bane of many public courses, incomplete rounds of just under 5 hours are not really fun.
Hopefully with some more rain this course will return to the condition we see depicted on the website.
Dead Grass and Dirt
If you like to play on dirt and dead grass this is the course for you. I think they have it all wrong the Tee boxes are soaking wet and muddy and the rest of everything is dead.
The ball rolls forever
I liked this course very very dry and hard so the ball rolling roll fairways were very dry and hard so the ball rollied and rolled But with the drought that's to be expected there obviously not cheating on their watering I would definitely play this course again like the layout The greens were not too fast or too difficult all in all it was a great day
