tight course with good greens
Had fun playing in less than 4 hours. tight fairways and good greens.
California Oaks = Target Shooting
In all fairness this was my 7th rnd/2wks. So my back was sore, it was windy/cool, & I TdOff @ 2:15. Really had no business out there yesterday. This course is narrow/short. I don't hit long, but could have hit 7-4h off the TBox 16X. During the past 2 weeks I've scored -90 hitting from blue. Well, mistake here. The course is so narrow, I played white the back 9 to try to ease my mind and hit shorter.
@#5/118 yd par 3, I skipped the 3sm ahead of me who were waiting for the 6 old timers to wrap up their putting clinic. Once passing through those (2-3?) groups it was wide open.
Playing the course - The pro shop staffer provided me with a course book. Which would have served me well if I had used it. Between the book & my golflogix app, I couldn't bring myself to hit 6/9 iron or 5h/pw on 8/18 holes.
So - If you want to work on your iron game & hit irons into the fairway, then hit wedges into the greens several times, go play. I'd rather play Colton & hit irons into greens & play a longer/wider course.
Good Value for the Money...but...
It has the potential to be a nice course, but seems a bit run down. There is a LOT of water and hazards, making it rather unpleasant at times. And honestly, the guy in the pro shop was a bit on the surly side.
Average course but could be better
The course had a nice layout. The pace of play is really fast the earlier you go out. 7-8am. The bunkers was the only issue I had with the course. They were in horrible condition. The sand was like rock and it looked like rivers were flowing through them. The bunkers were so bad, my partner and I played with a free drop if you ended up in one. Some of the greens also had deceased parts. The course has potential to be a lot better if they maintained it better. I would though play there again if the price stayed the same. <35. If the price rose, I would not play there again.
Nice Greens
Greens are in good condition. Fairways coming in nicely after the rain.
Very slow play
Due low fees it attracts novice players, Marshall is worthless. Owners not welling to change or care
Decent Course but lacking services
The course was in decent condition considering it's still in the winter months. Quite challenging at times; tight fairways, hazards well placed and not always visible. Certainly need to stay in the fairways because trouble lurks at every bend. I've played this course four times now and it's always provided a challenge. Amenities, however, were a joke. They advertise breakfast but no restaurant or grill open until 10:00!!! No beverage/snack cart making rounds on the course. Tee off was at 7:15, made the turn at 9:22, unable to get anything to eat at either time. Limited drinks in the clubhouse. Enjoy playing the course but probably won't return due to lack of conveniences provided at other courses of equal value/cost.
slow
Slow play no Marshall....on a Monday.....course in ok condition....
Great value!
Booked this course through GolfNow.com and it was only $9/person! Yes $9/person! Pretty good course. Great value.
Service
nice area, horrible service, trees in fairways, debris from trees on greens. wont be back.
Right Down The Middle!!
This course is great when you can keep the ball in the middle. Narrow, and anything on the periphery is a lost ball. Challenging and a great deal for the money, when booking through Golf Now!
What a nice golf retreat day we just have
Very nice new cart
Beautiful New Sand
Friendly staff
Deep discount weekday price on weekend - really Good Value
Smooth pace of play
staff (don't know her name)
arrived early, no one teeing off, held us until tee time (45 min.) and brought up the oldest cart in their shop. Unfriendly staff person.
Gem in the Valley
New Sand on the bunker !!
We enjoyed playing this with my son who is a beginner/new golfer. This course is challenging to new and experienced golfers. They have one of the best hamburger and Hot Dog we ever have. Staff are very helpful and friendly. New sand Green are in good shape. Fairways are narrow. Good place to use irons on the tee box.
A gated community course
This is a very narrow and short golf course. Not difficult to play however if you don't pay your ball straight they will be taking reports of damage to homes on these narrow fairways. My caution here if you play the course make sure that your game level of play is that you hit the ball straight.
The pro shop leaves something to be desired. It is not conducive to a friendly or even cordial environment. Patronage is very clicked, which is to be expected being this golf course is in a gated community. To be honest, I couldn't wait to finish the round and leave.
Close to home and cheap rate on Hot Deal
The course and carts need attention. The golf cart plastic wind screen was so dirty I had to put it down to see. A simple hosing would have done the job. The driver side strap to hold the golf bag in did not work. There are a number of carts this way and I have use athletic tape to hold the my bag in before. Most carts do not have sand in them and the sand box at the tees do not have scoops. Some greens have holes in them left from the aeration. But the holes are not your typical because they are about the size of the tip of your thumb. Bunkers have good sand in them but it is compacted and weeds are growing in them. Good is cheap rate, close to home, greens are soft. Good course to practice on. Tight for driver so use fairway woods and down.
A super golf course and better than expected!
California Oaks is simply a great little track. For many reasons, I will pass the word to my other golfing friends. First of all, for the money, you won't find a better golfing experience.
Cal Oaks is by no means a long golf course, but you will find plenty of challenges off the tee with nicely defined fairways and just enough rough to penalize an errant drive. A creek runs through the center of the course and comes into play nicely..creating a need for strategy off the tee as well as on your approach shots.
A couple of holes really don't require a driver off the tee, but it's fun to challenge yourself. A great course to learn to shape your shots off the tee, and we can all use a little of that now and then.
A couple of short par 3's allow you to make up a shot with another couple of par 3's requiring a mid-irons.
Wrap it up with some nicely shaped greens with good bunkering and you have a well rounded course to play!
I would not recommend this course.
I was very disappointed in this course. Unmanicured fairways and greens; overgrown bunkers, crabgrass on the greens and rows of dead grass clumped along the fairways. Not to mention the bizillion gopher holes complete with dirt piles. Temp was very hot (which was expected) and there wasn't a drink cart at anytime, finished the front 9 at 10:00 and the bar/grill wasn't even opened for an ice cold drink.
