fairways need work
fairways need work, there were some places that needed mowing and others that needed grass
good course for beginners
I just feel they need to do some work on there tee boxes, because they are not flat, they are more rounded or lopsided with tons of scuffs everywhere that throw your swing and stance off. Besides that, I had tons of fun and the greens were in good condition, with a great price for a game of golf.
Tight fairways - lots of trouble
Very tight fairways. Lots of brush/trees along fairways. Bunkers hard packed. Not a bad course if you hit them straight. Bring lots of balls if you don't.
Great course
The course was fantastic and i cant wait to play there again.
Good practice course
Think of the course as a long executive course. Simple layout , enables the golfer to practice iron/ wedge shot making .
Nice cource had a great time.
alright club pretty easy course to golf but had a great time, nice scenery.
Greens slow, fairway skimpy
fairways, greens and sand traps all need attention
Short tight course, needs better maintenance.
My take on this course is they took minimal amount of land available and tried to fit 18 holes in. Most of the Par 4's are around 300 yards. They try to compensate the shorter holes with narrow and hidden fairways. So you can't see the fairways on many holes and there's very little room for error. If you like to drive the ball then this is not the place for you. I am also guessing that because this course is in a retirement community it initial intention was for the older player. It looks like the course was originally called Colony after the retirement community. Now its Cal Oaks which is funny because upon arriving I thought I was in the wrong place! Its also gated. I asked the security guard if that was Cal Oaks and she replied that she didn't know. Then on the course the greens were aerated, cart had faulty brakes, general state of the course was poor. So on that particular day it was not a good experience at all. Unfortunately felt like a waste of a day. But in saying that this course looks like a lot of fun if it were in better shape and I am not sure if there are times in the year when its in its prime.
Very short course. Fairways and rough in bad condition. Greens were sanded . Carts were dirty, broken body and brakes.
We were very disappointed in this course. First, there was minimal parking at club. Parked on street which can be dangerous from near tees. Then no one was in pro shop to help us until 15 mins passed. Course grass was worse than a cow pasture. We were never told the greens were sanded. We will never return or recommend this course.
This course has good features, slow greens and tricky creek!
The overall experience was good, but the greens where very dry, slow and very bumpy. There was a lot of pot hole's and rough terrain to navigate if you were in the rough. I think for the money you could do a lot worse and watch out for the creek that runs through the hole course! Good luck!
Greens Need Help
Not a bad course layout, but it was too short and easy for my taste. Also, putting on the greens was a nightmare. There was no way you could read greens because they were covered in sand and the green grass was cut as high as I have ever seen it. The balls would bounce and roll off line for not reason at all. It was almost comical. If you buy a hot deal make sure it has a cart! If it doesn't you will be paying $12 a person extra for the cart.
Staff is OK. They are not very polite.
I have played here 3 times and it keeps getting better. The grounds are nice and green. The fairway was good. The greens are a little slow but still very nice.
Front nine being aerated so can not comment on entire coarse
From what we saw on the back nine(played twice) coarse is tight and you must be long and straight to have any type of success on this coarse. Can only assume front nine is just as difficult. No driving range made warm up almost impossible, practice putting green small.
You get what you pay for
$19 to play 18 holes with a cart on a Saturday is a great deal. The course is fairly challenging for a shorter layout. Grounds need some TLC and could use some improvement.
A very disappointing experience.
For the time of year, the course was in poor condition --- especially the fairways. If you every played an average course in Arizona -- in the "Valley" in mid-summer, this would be similar. After ten holes, my wife and I both stopped playing. It was a very disappointing experience.
A unique challenge that most golf courses won't have!
Very short course, but extreme target golf. Put away your driver. Not needed! Not the best condition fairways or greens, but if you want a unique challenge with a ton of hazards and extremely narrow fairways, this is your course! Watch out for hole #10 from the blue. Street on the left and water on the right!
Good course to have day fun
Beautiful scenery with lake and stream. Up and down hill with mountain background. What a day for fun in such picture taken course. My wife pick this course for our annuversary golf retreat. Green are very smooth. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is very yummy too.
Lots of water
Needs work on Fairways and Greens. Great overall pace of play.
interesting layout with tight fairways and lots of hazards
Fairways were not in very good condition - greens were the best part of the course, although a few of them had damaged areas. The par five on the front nine can only be described as goofy. A good tee shot rolls left to right into the creek-bed. The second shot basically gives the golfer no option to go for the green because there is a grove of trees in the way, including one large tree in the middle of the fairway. A low shot is about the only way to get through the trees, if you get lucky. Overall, the course is somewhat fun to play, but I would never pay full price for it.
Interesting holes.
The course is short and tight. The driver could stay in the bag. Fairways are in winter condition, but most greens are pretty good. Carts need maintenance badly, and course presentation needs some work. That being said the course is still pretty good value.
