Good course to keep yourself from rusting!!
Had a good round of golf was a great day for golf played the entire round in 3hours and 30 minutes by myself was waved through by three groups and it seemed that the other golfers on this course on the day i played did"nt seem open to having me join them so i just went about my golfing way and had a solo round beating my previous round by 1 stroke not a bad thing less distraction i guess so ya i will book here again, the course seemed in good shape for the most part....
classic muni with good value
Nice course layout; and always refreshing not to have any houses lining the fairways. The greens roll smooth and are very soft. The fairways are a bit inconsistent, having sporadic bumpy patches of irregular grass... but hey! for $20, playing preferred lies is one way enjoy it.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review, Otto! We really appreciate the feedback and hope to see you out here again soon!
Fun - convenient
The course was in very good condition especially considering the ongoing drought. Traps are more dirt than sand - fairly typical of this price point course. I have a bad knee so the fact the course is relatively flat is a plus for me. Fairways are tight enough to make the course challenging in the absence of down hill, side hill lies. The breeze kicks up in the afternoon also making things a bit more interesting. If you are a very good golfer, head to the blue tees - you won't be disappointed. My only real complaint is that we had a 5 some in front of us that was rather slow. We played the front nine in about 2 hours but the back took 3 hours when they apparently got tired or started playing for money - who knows?????
The greens are excellent
The best feature of this course is that there greens are always excellent. They had punched the fairways and they came back very well. Much better than our last round
Affordable and Fun
Had a good time playing. Nice greens and fairways. For the price, very pleased
Aerated greens
Been playing this course for years since I live very close. Usually not a bad place to play and the fairways and greens are in good shape. Last time I played the greens had been aerated quite recently and also were very overgrown. I understand this is a must for any golf course but there was no warning or discount for aerated greens. Made it impossible to make a decent putt.
good place
Easter Sunrise. Perfect on hole 4
Slow but steady challenge
Course was a little bottle-necked, but still had fun and enjoyed the round. Old General is a challenging course, but definitely could use some attention on the maintenance side.
Nice course!
Relaxed country atmosphere and great paced course! Friendly staff and good food!
It's a golf course, so it's got that going for it
I left a job site in Perris at 2:30 and figured I could squeeze in a quick 18. There are some amazing courses in the IE, so I figured I couldn't go wrong here. The pace of play was awful, the fairways were dismal, and the greens were spongy. BUT, I had some fun. This course plays much shorter than the 6700 yards, made a few birdies and an eagle. It's decent for beginners and definitely cheap.
Course Needs Mositure
This was the first time that I have golfed this course, overall I enjoyed the course layout, the greens were in excellent shape. It is to bad the rest of the course didn't match the greens. The fairways need moisture and the cart paths are in very rough shape (could be smoothed out and marked a bit better). I would certainly golf the course again as it was reasonably priced compared to some other courses in the area. enjoyed watching the military planes fly overhead, something that I don't get to see where I live. I liked the view from many of the holes, overall had a good time golfing this course. A little bit of water and maintenance would make this course even better.
Nice long holes
The thing about this course is that it has long par 3, 4, & 5's letting you have the option of using your woods or irons. Nice course, not over priced, responsive and pleasant staff and good pace of play. Really like playing here.
Nice Course Layout - Rain Would Help Conditions
An "old-style" course, with tree lined fairways and several doglegs. I liked the layout of this course, which is why it received my 4 star rating. Yes, the fairways and tee boxes could definitely use some water and maintenance, but on the whole, this was a good value for the money. The greens were nice, and most of the sand traps were very playable. A tip for all - stay below the hole to avoid 3-putts. Now that I have played this course once, there are a few holes that I can't wait to play again. Course knowledge is important on at least 3-4 holes. This course really has the potential to be one of the nicest courses in the area. All it needs is some rain, fertilizer, and some strategically placed grass seed...
Great Course for the price.
Had a winderful time at the course, the greens were well kept and fast.
A revisit.
Had been over a year since I last played this course. Been wanting to return. In past visits the course had looked descently kept up. A fair rate for its past upkeep. This time around was a very different experience. It's obvious that the lack of water has taken its toll. Very dry with thin fairways. Greens were descently kept. Tee boxes not so great looking either. I hope much rain comes for this course that desperately needs it. Hope to see it return to its previous condition.
Overall course condition
The course was in fair shape do to water restriction. The fairways are rolling well and greens allowed you to putt well. Overall fair. I have played this course before when it was in great shape.
Good price for a playable forgiving course
The greens and tee boxes are always in perfect condition. The rest of the course is pretty dried out, especially outside the fairways. But it's a fun course that is very playable. Even in it's condition, I still recommend it.
Poor Pace of Play and even worse Customer Service
I've golfed at Gen Olds course for many years. It seems as if they are becoming more concerned with making money more than they are concern with their patrons enjoying their golfing experience. I made my reservation using GN I was a single and figured I'd get paired up once I arrived (like I have before) Once I was checked in and paid I was told there was a golf tournament going on, but not to worry there would be no effect on my playing. I asked if I was going to be paired and they told me no. It was the worst experience Ive had in quite sometime. The pace was so slow, I gave up after 4 holes and spending about 1 1/2 hours out there. I saw multiple groups of five on the course. I feel as if there should have been some type of warning prior to my purchasing a tee time. Either through GN or the course itself. The guy behind the counter said "too bad, we have tournaments everyday" I asked about the groups of five and he said "we do this often" GN I feel if you added a feature (not sure how to do it) that would let prospective buyers become aware of the playing conditions, such as tournaments etc... I could call the course myself, but them what would I need GN for? Thank you...
Great Course, Great Value
General Olds is a golf course that provides great value. The course is kept in great condition, and the rates are affordable. It has a nice practice area where you can hit the range, or work on your short game. The putting green is also nice and well manicured.
The course plays long. With really tough par 3s that demand a long and accurate shot. Par 5s are challenging that will demand you to shape the ball around doglegs.
All in all a great course, and they offer plenty of deals.
We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your round with us. Sometimes, a solo day out on the course is just what you need. Please come and play us again soon!
