from the tips it is a great course with lots of elevated and uphill shots!
I had read several reviews on this course and decided t play it. Great decision, it was a very good and challenging golf course with some forced carries and lots of uphill shots. It plays 6500+ from the tips, but the fairways were softer so it plays more like 6900 yards. Loved the greens and the pace of play. If you are in the San Diego area this is a must play for a terrific price!
Challenging and fun
Greens are in great shape. Course is weel maintained. Most greens are guarded by sand or water. The course is fitted into a planned community but is well done and their are few holes that threaten houses or make the golfer feel that they are in someones backyard.
great views
Golf now is the way to go. This course I will recommend to others.
The greens here are in great shape.
This is a real fun course to play a round on. Played a scramble with some friends and was really impressed with the greens. Soft enough to stop the ball where you want but firm enough for a challenging roll. Very pleased with the course.
first time playing in carmel mountain ranch golf course have a great time w/ my friends
the first front nine were very challanging we lost lots of golf balls, im glad i brough extra golf balls, back nine was great.
This course has a great layout, but could use staff and course marshalls
My friend and I decided to take up the golfnow deal and play 18 here. I worked at this course, briefly, six years ago and the management was always seem to be absent which meant the inmates ran the prison so to speak. It appears to still be the same. Upon paying our course fees the gentleman in the clubhouse didn't offer much in the way of customer service. Thankfully I knew where to go to get carts, where the first tee was, etc. Those who have played this course, the first tee is not actually easy to find. The front nine went well as all of the groups seemed to be spaced out well and we maintained a pace of 30 minutes ahead of pace. On the back nine 6 groups of people just 'magically' showed up and there was a logjam of people. This would be fine had the group behind us not decided to stand on the tee box, club in hand, BEFORE the group in front of US were even off the green. I am sure this ins't the etiquette of everyone who plays out there, but it sure added to our negative experience. As for the course, I love the layout and there are some truly difficult holes. This is southern Cali so there wasn't a lot of water in the places where there should be water and the course was severely dehydrated, but all in all a great course for $28/person through golfnow. Would play again, but watch out for bad employees and bad golfers.
Good condition
Played here in the week. Not many people playing which was good. The course was in nice condition, greens ran smooth and true. The staff were very friendly.
great layout
Challenging course, with lots of elevation changes and well placed hazards. Greens are fantastic right now.
Challenging risk/reward course
Many holes are short but with precise approach shots needed to score well. A few long wide open holes as well. Good variety to keep your attn fully focused. GPS carts add
to the enjoyment. The $23 7 am rate is a bargain.
Rolling fairways
Very rolling golf course, with narrows fairways. This is not a golf course for the high handicap golfer. Value is good. The Crossings at Carlsbad is much nicer and their conditions are better. This course has a few holes that the greens are almost impossible to putt on due to the slope. I am a player in the 70's but my wife is in the high 20's and had difficult with the uneven lies. The price was good as we came to the area for a golf vacation from Manitoba snow, so anything was better than the snow at home. Other courses in the are worth playing Riverwalk, Torrey Pines.
They are getting the course back in good shape something I will go back and play.
Getting it back in good shape one thing I don't like is no driving range just a net.
course beautiful
Greens are beautiful .the fairways coming back to life
A lot of deep bunkers ,tough but fair they need real sand to be first rate.
The holes need to be rolled flat, they are mounding.
course was well maintained.
course was great. greens perfect except where crews were still mowing. they softened the greens up and putting was great. not to fast as in the past.
Very Nice Course. Makes you hit it straight! Bring extra balls!
My buddy and I just went down to San Diego last week (3/22/13) from Seattle. This course was about 20-25 mins away from our hotel in Mission Valley. Beautiful course, well maintained. Very challenging for me being a rookie but my friend says it was a challenge for him and he shoots in the 70s.You wont need your driver for more than 3-4 holes unless you are very straight. If you are then eagles can happen...lol. Friendly staff. Great deal for Saturday golf through golf now. It was $30 for us each with a cart. Bring lots of balls because narrow fairways will cause you to lose some in a beautiful setting....J
Excellent course and in great shape.
Course is in immaculate condition! I loved playing there. The only downside was all the driving between holes but not a big deal. Great value!
Very hilly, with lots of blind shots
Course flows thru the canyons, so no back to back holes. Lots of blind shots. It was very playable for me, but the back nine was very difficult for my wife. She just had to pick up on the 17th, because she could not hit over the hazard.
Best runned time course ever.
They controlled the times all day long and it was the best managed tee time course ever. I played there over 1 year ago and it took so long and under manged that I would not play again. I tried it yesterday and it is a 100% turn around. Looking forward to playing again.
The greens were very good.
I last played this course over ten years ago. The layout is the same (they did switch the front to the back) but the condition is not what I remembered. The greens are still very good but the rest of the course is not as pristine as it once was.
The driving range is gone and the so called practice area is now a net. The beverage cart was unavailable because the attendant called in sick. One would think they could find someone to operate it on a Sunday.
It's getting worse
Used to be a decent course, but it seems like it's getting worse every year. The greens were awful, full of sand and little rocks, the ball wouldn't roll at all. Fairways not much better. Even teeing boxes were in bad shape and uneven. They never had a driving range, put up a warm-up cage a couple of years ago, but even that one was closed, so you start playing cold here. No cart service. Starter with no clue how to manage tee times. Overall, even for a cheap course, not a good impression.
Beautiful Clubhouse. No REAL driving range
Course greens were awesome. Great layout! Love verticle challenges. Had a good time!
