Course in VERY poor condition & many Unfair golf holes and/or "waste areas"
This course needs a lot of work. Tees were so hard you needed a hammer to put your tee in the ground. Fairways & Greens were in so-so condition. The worst aspect of the course were the "sloping away from the fairway waste areas" which lined the tight fairways. If your ball got into these areas it usually rolled out of bounds since they were like concrete. Trying to hit off these areas is hazardous to your golf club & your wrists. In summary this is a nice housing development, with a "supposed golf course" added as an after thought? Staff was very friendly, but the course was not.
Great time
Bring a hammer the tee boxes are like cement. The redesign is great. Playing again next Thursday
CMR
Lot's of rennovations happening but not too many directly in your line of play. Looks like they're making the course a little easier by cutting down some of the hazards and shrubs on the sides of the fairway/rough.
Overall a fun course. I got super lucky and eagled hole 17 - hit a driver into the lake, bounced off the concrete lake edge and rolled up 15 feet away from the hole and drained it!
Carmel Mountain Ranch
This place is awesome. There is an extreme emphasis on hitting the ball straight off the tee's. But the course is short enough to be able to leave the driver in the bag if it's getting a little squirley on you. The new look is great, but when they "trimmed the fat" they made an already tough course even harder. If you're having a good driving day this course will reward you. Beautiful lay out with an amazing pace of play. The greens are amazing right now. Not too fast, and lush. So the couple of crazy greens are approachable now.
You should definitely check this course out now that they are done with the construction.
Complete overhaul
I am not quite sure what their intentions are but they have eliminated a lot of the rough areas and now it's mulch and bushes or currently mud so we were beyond disappointed and I would not play this course for at least one yearly
Carmel Mtn First
Great course, it looks like they aerated recently. Foursome in front of us played slowly and didn't repair any of their ball marks. Lots of challenges on the course. All of the staff were great. Lots of military aircraft flying in the area.
obligation
the course is under construction. The pro shop had the obligation to let the player know before they start the game.
Brutally bad condition
I have played this course many times over the past 12 years and have always enjoyed every aspect of it. This course is in as bad of shape as I have seen in the county. Not only very little grass but tee boxes, cart paths, bunkers etc. are far below average. The whole course is in winter rule and or ground under repair condition. Very disappointing, do not waste your time or money.
Good old. course
Very good condition. hard course. A lot of blind shots and carry over refines.
Don't waste your money!
The worst! 5 1/2 hours to play! Tee boxes and fairways lousy! They just became part of JC Golf...don't waste your money or time!!
The ranch
We played super twilight. The fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. The greens were a little slow and made it hard to get the putts to the whole. They were doing some construction on the course. Although we were not told that one of the holes was shortened it was still a great day and worth the money. I love playing this course.
Dry grass, hard bunkers but overall pretty good.
A pretty interesting course loocated in a community.
So be careful with your tee shots as you are responsible for any damage to houses or people.
don't walk as there is some long distances between holes.
some challenging holes with narrow fairways and decent carry distances to fairways.
Good price for replay 25$
one of the most challenging par 3 Ive ever played with 220 yard uphill.
NICE SURPRISE
DROVE IN FROM PALM SPRINGS TO CATCH A CHARGERS GAME. CHECKED MANY COURSES IN THE AREA AND ON THE WAY TO PLAY BEFORE THE GAME AND PICKED CARMEL MTN. NICE SURPRISE. THIS TRACK MAY NOT BE IMMACULATE OR THE GRAND DEL MAR BUT FOR THE PRICE AND WITH THE WATER SHORTAGE I THOUGHT THE GREENS WERE VERY GOOD AND MOST OF THE FAIRWAYS WERE OK. CANT GO WRONG IF YOUR IN THE SD AREA.
If You Can't say Anything Nice....
The greens were in good condition. Boring, monotonous course with terrible routing through old neighborhood. Needs a general fixing up. Old course, old cart paths, old houses, old landscaping. Would not play again.
Landscaping Gone Wild
I have never had an experience like this before. Hole 12- landscapers on the green and around the green. We waved at them, and waited for them to move off the green. They saw us and ignored us. We then hit away(despite my better judgment) and missed them by a fair amount. They were unconcerned. I then tried to chip the short distance onto the green when one of the guys walked 10 feet right in front of me during the chip (same guy did it to my friend on hole 16). They continued to run weed-eaters and blowers as we putted. Then for 4 more holes, we would tee off and by the time we made it to the green, they were there. I had called on hole 12 to the pro shop and complained to Evan, he was willfully barely interested. I demanded a call from the manager. The head green keeper called me and was pleasant and appalled. He said he would educate the temporary staff on golf etiquette. I explained that half my game was ruined and they should give back part of my green fees. He said he would call Evan and have him call me. It never happened.
Also, hole 16(I think it was) is under construction and the tee boxes are moved forward about 200 yards. That was not on their website and not disclosed to us prior to starting. What a waste to play the course, only to find that I can't keep an accurate score based off that (for my handicap). I was thoroughly unimpressed with their service and professionalism and would advice others to stay away.
Carmel Mountain Ranch
Carmel Mountain Ranch is not a course where you just tee it up and mash driver every hole. You need to consider placement and laying up frequently. The greens were in excellent condition. The sand was good quality. The fairways in good shape but there's some difficult, wiry green side rough. The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. They do not have a driving range, just a netted area with swing analyzers. It would be nearly impossible to walk; there are some very long distances between some of the holes.
Fun Course-Bunkers need attention-fairways need some attention-Greens are great!
Always a fun course. The Bunkers really need some sand in them and the fairways seem to be in need of some seeding, a lot of barren spots. Greens are in great condition.
The course is a gem, almost!
The course has a fun layout. I would recommend for first timers to play with someone who is familiar with the course layout. Most of the the holes have a 'risk, reward' quotient with bailout areas in most of the landing areas and around the greens. If you know where to 'miss' on this course you can really post a good score. Staff was great also, the only negative would be the lack of a driving range which would make this a 5 star course.

Course was an excellent conditions. The greens were great. Playable from many tees for many levels. Quite impressed with the course
Made for a great day
Beautiful views, well kept greens, pace of play was such that we only saw one other group and they were quickly gone. Made a friend and had a great day.
