Friars/Presidio at Riverwalk Golf Club

The location and its staff is excellent There’s nothing to write about the golf for now but needs entire r renovation!

Things which made the course frustrating;

1) Every single fairway was roped off – making it a long walk to find drives.

2) 11th hole (par 3) was completely closed to play due to the construction.

3) Hole 14 is still a temp green 20 yards short.

4) Greens have lots of burnt/brown spots

5) Fairways have been seeded but have lots of bare dirt.

6) The white and blue tee boxes have construction on #10 and #12 and are way forward even further than the normal front tees. (10th hole [Presidio #1] played at just 158 yards).

7) All other white tee boxes were way back with the blue.

8) Never say a Marshall to expedite the slow groups ahead.

This looks like a beautiful course...online. In reality, and in consideration of it being the end of October, when major repairs and over-seeding are in process, I still found the overall conditions to be unacceptable. The fairways had multiple dirt (no grass) spots. The greens had so many bare spots and ball marks, that I couldn't tell if my golf ball was celebrating Easter (hippity-hoppity all the way to the hole), or if my golf ball was an army ball (zig-zagging off the putter face all the way to the hole).

The only highlight was the staff working the clubhouse, when taking my payment. Very nice, professional, and helpful with guiding me to the different options at the course. The starter sometimes looked like he was lost, There was a course marshal who actually tried to start a fight between our group and the group ahead of us. I've never seen such unprofessionalism where an employee threatened and mocked people playing golf. Our foursome kept up with the group in front of us the whole time. Our round started at 12:40, and we finished at 5:52. A five hour round? There were too many drunk people yelling, jumping on the greens, and driving their carts all over the fairway; even though the fairways were roped off due to over-seeding. Why wasn't the marshal correcting that?

As my survey submissions reads, I won't be recommending this course to any of my friends;; nor will I play it again.

This course is a mess. Tried playing on Friday. The front 9 tees were all moved up and it was cart path only. Zero notification of this when my buddy called to make the tee time. Their excuse when we complained about being charged $80 for it was, there is notification on the website. Who goes to your website? Went to check the website. Zero notification of any of that on the homepage. What a joke. Learn how to manage a golf course. Will not play here anymore. Course is never worth $80 anyway.

Overseeded, womens tees on most holes, cart path only, 5 hour round, they push our tee time back without asking, temporary green.

Meet some great people, the morning starter was fantastic.

Unfortunately, the course is in poor condition. Greens are good, fairways are bad.

Good price for a nice layout

Location of the course is great.

Greens were in good shape, especially within a few weeks of aeration. Some work to go on fairway improvements.

The quality of this course is so bad when seeing here that it’s rated at 3.5 stars.

The fairway has more dirt than grass;

The greens are the worst I’ve ever seen;

Hard to find a nice tee box.

It’s crazy how much they charge considering what is offered to the players!

I’ve played here for about 7 years so far. So bad how things have changed.

Overpriced and not a good golf experience. Better look else where.

This facility is a great facility for driving and mid-range shots. Most of the grains are very very patchy. Makes putting very difficult. I found this mainly on the back side nine. The overall hazards and obstacles make this a very fun course. You need to have very good accuracy on the back nine and on the front three. The arification was minimal and affected the ball minimally. I'm sure as the season continues here in San Diego that the greens will get a lot better as well as the fairways.

Always enjoy playing Riverwalk. First time there since the Friars 9 closed. Like the layout Greens have recovered nicely from the recent punch. Fairways were a little patchy.

Will play again.

Wet and slow and not in a good way.. I’m the idiot for thinking I can go play an afternoon round here and see remotely decent pace of play. Stay home, no golf is better. Really should have known better lol

I live local and this is a great track for us SD proper folks. Especially when I find a deal. I just enjoy the heck out of walking the course. Sometimes you get stuck behind a novice playing like he's Rory and taking his time, but not too bad otherwise. Wish they'd speed folks like that up. However, summer got hot and affected a lot of courses and once we got a little moisture, this greened right up. Nothing bad to say here, fun course. Hole 3 is cool.

Course was in horrible condition. Probably worst condition than any other course in San Diego. Will never play there again.

I used to play this course a lot over the past 15+ years. It’s demise saddens me. It’s such a great, central location that could command top dollar for tourists to play. I realize the greens were recently punched, but that’s not the worst part of the course, by far. The overall conditions were sub-par, goat farm-like. Perhaps some entity with some scratch could appear and fix it up. Phil?

Sadly this will be the last time playing Riverwalk GC. Was hoping for better course conditions than the last time played, approx two months again. The course is pretty much unplayable! Save your money….The course is in worst shape than any other one in San Diego!

Find a different course to play!

I gave this course a shot after playing a couple of private courses in area. Nice layout, but I was disappointed the greens had been punched two weeks prior without notice in GN,

The fairways were inn terrible shape and often found the lies to be on bald or dead grass.

I enjoyed the layout and feel the course had tremendous potential if they get the maintenance right
