9th Hole Mission Photo submitted by canyonman59 on 12/06/2012
Great Marshall/Under Communication
The starter was not very concerned with the pace of play or about the threesome of young men teeing off in jeans and t shirts hitting from the back tees that were unable to clear the gulch on the opening tee box. Because of this, we needed up skipping TWO groups moving at an unbelievable slow pace at the third hole. The starter was waiting for both groups on the 4th tee box and apologized to us for the lack of pace consideration at the start.
The course was also under construction and we were not given a warning of that at any point. There were two different holes with greens moved on to the fairway, leaving it a hole unable to truly score. That added to the missed hole because we had to skip two groups left us with three holes less than what we paid for. The course was in ok shape and I am excited to see how it plays once construction is done, but sadly all of golf is a below average in comparison to what you have to pay these days. I only play this course when it’s on a hot deal.
Bad shape
Sad to see this course be let go; shell of what it used to be. I would not recommend this golf course at this point.
Great course for the price
There were a few greens and a few areas of the course that were pretty sandy and dry. Could use some work but we are headed into the winter months so hopefully that will happen now. Like the course overall would go back.
Huge disappointment
Riverwalk is overpriced most of the time. So, when I saw a walking rate of $50 I was intrigued. They disclosed that #11 was closed. No problem I thought, I often have trouble with that hole. What they did not disclose was that 2 tees were moved, one of them WAY up, making a fun/challenging par 4 into a ho hum par 3. Several fairways were roped off entirely. Not a problem if you walk, but made for a pain as I opted for a cart. Several fairways were being aerated/torn up. All of this was NOT disclosed. So I felt pretty cheated over all, especially when there was no signage to say “hey sorry our course is such a s}€}hole” . My advice would be, play at your own risk!
In Good Shape
The course is in good shape and fun to play. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I wish there were more/better yard markers.
Condition of course is very poor. We quite play after 15th.
Do not play
Course was in terrible condition and pace of play was absolutely horrible. There were several temporary greens on par threes and temporary tee boxes on several holes which the pro shop said nothing about when checking in. Waited for 10-15 minutes on several holes. No Marshall to enforce pace of play. Lots of dirt patches on fairways. By far the worst conditions of any course in San Diego. Do Not play here.
Played 4 years ago it was great not now.
Most of the fairways are under repair the greens need major repairs weeds bare dirt. Holes are not marked correctly Basically it is a mess.
Green Thumb Needed
For a Hot Deal you really can't go wrong and my expectations at Riverwalk are always low for cobdition of the course and pace of play. No mention of the extreme amount of couse maintenance happening right now so that might have been nice, but the greens are pretty awesome. Tee boxes are beat. Fairways mostly bare or trying to be overseeded. BTW, pretty much cart path only. And a couple of greens were not so awesome (see pics). I want to love this course because of it's great location and its cool topography but it rarely delivers. Go for the deal or if in SD from out of town for the locale.
Riverwalk Golf Course
If you want to play at Riverwalk, I would suggest you to wait few more months as they are working hard to improve the condition including some greens as some men have been working on them. Carts are not allowed on fairways. So hopefully when I return it will be in a better shape.
Great Location Wasted
The location and its staff is excellent There’s nothing to write about the golf for now but needs entire r renovation!
Frustrating play
Things which made the course frustrating;
1) Every single fairway was roped off – making it a long walk to find drives.
2) 11th hole (par 3) was completely closed to play due to the construction.
3) Hole 14 is still a temp green 20 yards short.
4) Greens have lots of burnt/brown spots
5) Fairways have been seeded but have lots of bare dirt.
6) The white and blue tee boxes have construction on #10 and #12 and are way forward even further than the normal front tees. (10th hole [Presidio #1] played at just 158 yards).
7) All other white tee boxes were way back with the blue.
8) Never say a Marshall to expedite the slow groups ahead.
Bad shape, and one bad employee
This looks like a beautiful course...online. In reality, and in consideration of it being the end of October, when major repairs and over-seeding are in process, I still found the overall conditions to be unacceptable. The fairways had multiple dirt (no grass) spots. The greens had so many bare spots and ball marks, that I couldn't tell if my golf ball was celebrating Easter (hippity-hoppity all the way to the hole), or if my golf ball was an army ball (zig-zagging off the putter face all the way to the hole).
The only highlight was the staff working the clubhouse, when taking my payment. Very nice, professional, and helpful with guiding me to the different options at the course. The starter sometimes looked like he was lost, There was a course marshal who actually tried to start a fight between our group and the group ahead of us. I've never seen such unprofessionalism where an employee threatened and mocked people playing golf. Our foursome kept up with the group in front of us the whole time. Our round started at 12:40, and we finished at 5:52. A five hour round? There were too many drunk people yelling, jumping on the greens, and driving their carts all over the fairway; even though the fairways were roped off due to over-seeding. Why wasn't the marshal correcting that?
As my survey submissions reads, I won't be recommending this course to any of my friends;; nor will I play it again.
Why do I keep trying
This course is a mess. Tried playing on Friday. The front 9 tees were all moved up and it was cart path only. Zero notification of this when my buddy called to make the tee time. Their excuse when we complained about being charged $80 for it was, there is notification on the website. Who goes to your website? Went to check the website. Zero notification of any of that on the homepage. What a joke. Learn how to manage a golf course. Will not play here anymore. Course is never worth $80 anyway.
Course is a mess
Overseeded, womens tees on most holes, cart path only, 5 hour round, they push our tee time back without asking, temporary green.
Great day.
Meet some great people, the morning starter was fantastic.
Weather was great
Unfortunately, the course is in poor condition. Greens are good, fairways are bad.
Good Value
Good price for a nice layout
Location of the course is great.
Greens were in good shape, especially within a few weeks of aeration. Some work to go on fairway improvements.
