Work in progress on all tees
So this review is for gold now and not Tustin Ranch golf course, Golfnow did not post all construction going on on all tees, all tee’s are under construction
Tustin Ranch GC First Time Out
Reservation was for a Sunday, during a holiday weekend. Price was almost $200 without the monthly “membership”. Finished in about 4.5 hours, which was nice. Didn’t feel rushed at any point. The front 9 tee boxes were being renovated, so the course played significantly shorter. Greens were in great shape, receptive, but still pretty fast. Lots of undulations and multilevel greens. Fair number of unrepaired divots, but that’s on the players. Fairways were in good shape. Most divots filled with sand/seed. Tee boxes and bunkers need help. Back nine tee boxes were a mixture of grass and lumpy. (Explains the front nine tee box repair). Bunkers have good quality sand, but very compressed.
Driving range was mats, but appear to be grass at least part of the time.
Definitely recommend getting a “membership” if you are going to play at least once a once. Membership is $44 a month, price difference per round was about $70.
Looking forward to seeing the course after repairs. Hopefully I don’t have four 3 putts next time.
Good local track
Good track overall. Greens were true. Not super fast but rolled consistent.
Tight greens
I know it's summer in Cali, but the fairways were very dry and grass was spotty. Greens r in good sharpe, but small / multi-tiered & can be very tough if u r above the hole ! Nice staff, but make sure you confirm the range is open.
Visiting OC area
Course is a nice layout, ample fairways, but small multi-level greens. Needs water bad !
Not well maintained
For what I paid, I expected way better conditions. But the greens are challenging and fun.
Good but could be maintained better
I grew up playing Tustin Ranch since its opening so I am very familiar with the course.
Fairways - 9/10 with some 10/10s
Rough - 7.5/10 with some holes as low as 5/10 with weeds growing
Tee box - 10/10 as they do a great job of moving the tees around (they can be very firm from time to time)
Greens - most recent round was not the best since they are still recovering from aeration but probably one of the better rolling greens in OC.
There is really nothing wrong with the facility at all but is there value? Unfortunately, there isn't. But I think that's very standard for OC golf.
The staff is great
The staff here takes this finely laid out course to the next level. They are friendly and respectful of time.
Excellent day
The pace was great the course was in good shape but the staff was even better. Thank you.
Overpriced, conditions like a muni
The course remains expensive for the quality. The green fringes and some areas of the greens themselves are chewed up and patchy like they have STDs, the greenspeeds are inconsistent and no where near their tiny practice green speeds so you can’t warm up properly, nearly every hole is lined by homes or apartments so you never feel like you are away in nature, and even the fairways are inconsistent, with some of them overgrown like rough (specifically hole 13), others with patchy patches of varying grasses or bare spots. Yet they charge, and get premium prices. In no way is this course wotyh the money. Worst value in OC.
Bad
Course was kinda cool but not worth the money. It’s fine. Plagued by many of the same issues that all courses in Southern California have to deal with but the etiquette on the course was awful. No one taking the traps. Fresh ball marks all over the greens. The range actually sucks. IF YOU CHARGE PEOPLE 140$+, YOU HAVE TO ENFORCE PACE OF PLAY! We had 2 groups waiting on a par 5 and the people on the green were remitting all of their putts with 2 open holes in front of them. That’s a joke. And we got rushed off the first tee by the starter 7 minutes before our tee time. Also not cool. Won’t give this place another dollar. I should have given it 5 stars so that people come here instead of courses worth playing but honestly if I paid 50$ I would have been like “yeah decent course”
Green Aerated but Still Full Price
Greens were aerated not too long ago. No warning or notification was given on golf now and still had to pay full price. There are plenty of courses in that area for cheaper and better conditions and layouts.
Love it
Everything about this place is first class.
Greens were 11+ and perfect
Will be back 100%
Weird
Showed up to a tee time I booked on golf now and didn’t realize I needed a collard shift. They charged me the greens fee THEN reminded me I needed one. I asked if it was okay to play without one and they said no. They said they could refund me, and proceeded to do so. I asked for a basketball of balls to hit on the range, then they said they couldn’t actually refund me the greens fee the initially said they would. So I said I’ll just go ahead and play and buy a shirt. Then they tried to charge me again after they said they couldn’t honor the refund.
Policy is fine. Execution of the policy is terrible.
