Cimarron Golf Club - Boulder Course
About
Cimarron's Boulder course is desert in location, but almost links in feel. It's hard to imagine even the most beer-cart-fueled hacker thinking they're in Scotland. Considering the bright sun, the striking San Jacinto Mountains and all. But …
"We've had many golfers tell us it reminds them of the British Open," head pro Jason Janke said. "For what we have in the desert, this is probably the closest course to that."
At 6,782 yards from the back tees, Cimarron challenges with length and accuracy. It's wise to keep your ball in the fairway here or you'll get some up-close desert views. Still with three par 4s over 450 yards and two par 5s over 560 yards, bombing away with your driver is anything but completely ignored.

Decent round
Super friendly staff and well maintained course. We golfed here just after opening post overseeding - greens were a little slow and that is to be expected. Course was busy and we started late, we moved at a decent clip though in the end it got closer to a 4.5/5 hour round as we slowed down on the back. No water on the course and it was a challenge getting a sandwich on the course despite cart service (out of sandwiches twice?) - hole 10 is not exactly at the clubhouse so we made a mad dash to the bar/kitchen and they did not have anything ready there either. I'm general staff were great and helpful. I think the course is decent value overall - not hugely challenging, greens are pretty easy (I remarked on the one green on the back nine that had some serious slope, first one all day). So good intermediate course.
Long waits
This was my 2nd time playing this course. Both times there were long wait times to start and at each hole. I only got 9 holes the last time due to the waits. They clearly overbook!
Put me on the wrong course
I paid to play boulder and they put me on pebble. Staff was unorganized. Staff needs to pay more attention to detail and their guests. I was not happy playing a course I didn’t pay for
Fairways are yellow and dead
Was slightly disappointed but the course does have potential but grass was dead and yellow greens were nice that’s it
Brown
For the price we paid, this was not worth it. No water on coarse, fairways were brown and green in the same conditions
Greens in good conditions, fairways are burnt
Greens were in good condition but the fairways and tee boxes were in rough shape. Very little if any green grass. A lot of barren areas
Good pace of lay
Wife and I played the Boulders course, good pace of play. Greens were in generally good shape as was the rest of the course considering the hot summer. Had fun and finished in less than 3.5 hours. There is no water to drink on the course so bring plenty. Would play again
Nice course
Just need more signage, we got lost and others did the same asking us where to go. More signage please.
Thank you for your feedback on the signage. We're glad you enjoyed your visit and will work on improving the signage to enhance your experience at Cimarron Golf Resort - Boulder Course. We hope to see you for another round soon!
acceptable for mid-summer
treated very well in clubhouse...for mid summer the course is in acceptable shape...only real complaint is lack of drinking water, so beware, be safe and BYO water
Thank you for your feedback on the course conditions and the clubhouse service. We appreciate your suggestion regarding drinking water and will work on fixing that issue. We hope to see you for another round soon!
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at Cimarron Golf Club - Boulder Course. We look forward to seeing you on the course soon for another 5-star experience!
Fun and fast
Wanted to get one last round while in the desert. Wide open tee sheet Wednesday afternoon 6/12. Showed up around 1 pm and was out solo right away. The guy working the pro shop was very welcoming and kind (more on other staff later).
The layout is a cool mix of holes with getable par fives and fun par 3s. Can use a bit better signage but it’s not terrible. For summer, definitely good conditions with only some areas of burnt fairways. Greens rolling medium and smooth with fun contours and not overly difficult. Tee boxes and bunkers also fair to good. It was in the low 100s with a breeze and there was water in some jugs on the course and ice in the cooler on the cart. Please note::: When playing the few holes back by the overpass, there are some drifters, vagrants, homeless or whatever you deem them hanging around. Always be aware of your surroundings. Park the cart where it is visible (read here someone had their driver stolen; person ran off with it). I put my wallet and phone on my person while back there. No big deal. I was solo and they didn’t try anything weird so I’m sure they mind their own business for the most part.
Glad I was able to breeze through in 2 hours 15 minutes. When I pulled up to the cart drop, I waved to the employee in the purple shirt and he just stared and ignored me. No thanks for playing or how was it, nothing. Not ideal customer service in my opinion.
All in all, glad I got to experience another course in the area. Enjoy the walk…
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience. We're glad you enjoyed the course layout and conditions, and we'll address the signage and customer service feedback with our team. We hope to welcome you back for another round at Cimarron Golf Resort - Boulder Course soon.
You will dehydrate
Could be such a nice course if kept up. On the few holes where there was a water jug stand, not all had a jug inside. All that did have a jug inside had trickling to no water. No cart person either. Our tee time was 11:50 and thank goodness we brought our own water and didn’t rely on the course or cart person to buy from.
Also if you are female, porta potty’s only so be aware.
We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the water availability and facilities. Thank you for your feedback, and we'll work on improving these aspects to enhance your experience at Cimarron Golf Resort - Boulder Course.
Good layout
Greens were good but fairways were only average in spots
