Cimarron's Boulder course is desert in location, but almost links in feel. It's hard to imagine even the most beer-cart-fueled hacker thinking they're in Scotland. Considering the bright sun, the striking San Jacinto Mountains and all. But …
"We've had many golfers tell us it reminds them of the British Open," head pro Jason Janke said. "For what we have in the desert, this is probably the closest course to that."
At 6,782 yards from the back tees, Cimarron challenges with length and accuracy. It's wise to keep your ball in the fairway here or you'll get some up-close desert views. Still with three par 4s over 450 yards and two par 5s over 560 yards, bombing away with your driver is anything but completely ignored.

We didn't get to finish our round
Booked an 11:20 tee time for my wife and I. We arrived at the course at 10:45 thinking we would just have time to warm up before the round. On the way to the driving range we saw a big line of carts backed up on the first tee box. The starter informed us that a ladies group or tournament had the course backed up and there was also a men's group right behind them and we would probable be 20-30 minutes late teeing off. We hit our practice balls and returned to the first tee to see an even larger line of carts waiting to tee off. We ended up teeing off around 12:25 so an hour late. The first 5 or six holes were painfully slow and it ended up taking 3 hrs to play the front nine. The couple that we were paired with had to leave after 9 holes as they had dinner reservations and show tickets and knew they would never finish the round in time. We stuck it out for until hole 15 when paly slowed down again with 3 groups on a hole. Finally gave up without playing 16-18 as we just got tired of waiting between shots. in 40+ years of playing golf we have never had to be delayed an hour to tee off except for possibly a rain delay. Now for the course condition, I realize that this winter was a real struggle with major flooding from rain storms and I applaud the efforts of the course maintenance staff to get it to the level that it is. Yes it was a bit rough around the edges so to speak but all in all they did a great job! Too bad we didn't get to finish. Would we play it again? Maybe but only we could be guaranteed that we would tee off on time and finish well under 5 hrs. Additional note: this course is really close to the Palm Desert airport with jets coming and going every 20-30 minutes but unlike some course we have played in flight paths of airports we really weren't bothered by them and noise was not a problem (maybe the wind was blowing the right direction that day)

Horrendous Scheduling and Pace
Tee-offs were 30 minutes behind with up to 5 minute wait on every tee. Ho-hum attitude from starter. With our original tee off time we should of got complete round in before darkness. We finished the 14th in darkness.

perfect day of golf
First off the staerter asked if I had ever played here and since I hadn't he gave me a few course tips. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Greens were a little fast, but true. Course is fairly open, but fairway bunkers are strategically placed. Had a great time!

Pace was not great today
There were 2 foursomes in front of us that were terribly slow. Hence we didn’t finish before dark. Would have thought the Marshall would have handled this. Otherwise it was a fun day.

Course in decent shape following the flood issues in August
Greens and surround fine but some fairways are thin or no grass a at all in several spots
Pace of play surprisingly slow . Just over 4 1/2 hours round
Difficult to loose a ball so why so slow.

Course in very rough condition
Very disappointing to see what happened after the heavy rain. Cart paths mostly gone and lots of bare patches. The greens were as slow as shag carpets. Can’t fight Mother Nature but they still charge full price for 18. May have to wait 2 years before it gets better.

Not worth the money. Front nine is in terrible shape. Back nine was very nice. Still not the money.

Nice course, but in rough shape
Hard to tell fairways from rough. Very beaten up. The track took a hit from the rains in August and have not recovered. Not a peaceful place as the freeways run next to it.
Homeless camp near the freeway so we were warned to keep an eye on our things in the cart.
We played the track in early 2020 and went back for a second time. Sadly, until the course is in better shape we will find other options.

Lovely Day
We had a good time playing as the day was perfect. It was unnerving to encounter the people living under the bridge on Ramon who came right up to us to check us out. I held onto my pocketbook as it appeared they were looking for something. I would have like a heads up on that one.

Recovering slowly
Cimerron is A favorite however, the course is taking a beating since the hurricane, and although it’s remarkable how far it’s come back, it is not all the way back the greens are very slow, and the fairways are in rough shape
