About
Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.
The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.
Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.
Hidden Hills has a rating of 74.0 from the championship tees, and the slope rating is 136.

Great track - spring conditions.
Very warm enjoyable day at a FL course with real terrains. The greens are recovering from a sort of aeration (parallel grooving - maybe another week) and the ‘rough’ (negligible) was being core aerated. Lots of roll as the fairways are still thin. Challenging course. Exceptional club house I think. Good range with practice bunker.

Course is not in good Shape
Cordial staff, good facility but the course is not in good shape. Poor greens. Thin to no fairways in spots. According to groundskeeper, recent weather trends did not help.

Inexplicable
This is a really nice layout with elevation changes and contoured fairways, but the course is not in good condition and the greens are terrible. I would think that February would be a favorable month with moderate temperatures and not many golfers so I can't fathom why the course was not in better shape.

No grass
Need a ton of grass in fairways.
very short,what grass there is.
No warning notification of greens condition.
The cart had no breaks. Exchanged fir a different one. Those breaks gave out after 5 holes.

Decent range, terrible course conditions
This is my home course as far as practice goes. Range is solid (minus the proliferation of gnats that bite at every inch of uncovered skin.) They verticut the overseed that never grew in properly on the greens, this leads to bumpy lines that act as speed bumps across grain and wobbly downgrain. Don’t come here expecting to score or enjoy your round at all. Tight lies, mucky and dead grass. Gas carts so you can taste the fumes in your mouth and smell it in your nose for days after. The price is fairly cheap but the course sucks, so. Sad to see because the layout is fun. Also maybe use some pesticide on the driving range for your $8/bag of 40 balls so I don’t get ripped by gnats for $16. Staff is cool except for the one guy, you know who.

Disappointed in the condition
We’ve had a few cold days in Jax this winter but still disappointed in the conditions of the course. Have played here several times and I have to say this is probably the worst I’ve seen it. Greens had some weird striping that either made the ball bounce uncontrollably if going across it or it you pitted with it would take your ball down a stripe “lane” and make it go offline. All putts were hit and hope. The fairways weren’t just dormant, they were very thin and felt like hitting off hard pan. The tee boxes were completely beaten to death. Hoping warmer days helps them. The course is hard enough but even harder with bad playing conditions.

First time at course
Only issue is that greens and 20 yards surrounding were criss cross thatched leaving grooves. Ball roll was impossible to predict. Should have been warning in ProShop regarding condition and reduced cost.

A GREAT TRACK THAT NEEDS A LOT OF WORK
Make no mistake H HILLS is a great golf course, brilliantly designed by , I think, Arnold Palmer. BUT it pains me to say it has gone way down hill. Quite simply there isn't any grass on the course. Numerous bear spots all over the coarse , even on the fairways. On top of that the greens are barely puttable.. On a golf course where there are numerous "forced carries" over water to reach greens you must have grass on the course to provide a lie to make a difficult golf shot. Unfirtunately that isn't the case and it makes for a very frustrating day unless you are a single digit handicap are simply don't care what you score.
I would love to come back to this course in the future but I have no intention of returning until their conditions improve.
