John Fought and Tom Lehman collaborated on the course at Verrado Golf Club, a voluptuous design that meanders through the old Caterpillar bulldozer proving grounds. It's up and down for 18 holes and that doesn't mean "chip and a putt." The course is good test with chances to score and a handful of memorable and scenic holes.

Where Verrado Golf Course will eat you alive is in the bunkers. Some bunkers are hard to carry, others collect wayward shots. But the fairways are wide enough to avoid trouble, and what appears to be the safe shot off the tee will often bring greenside bunkers more into play. So pick your poison.

While the back nine is far superior to the front, going out still has its fair share of memorable holes. A huge boulder 30 feet tall on the par-4 eighth jets out from the left side around which the fairway shapes itself. A perfect line from the tee box is to take the ball five yards right off its edge, but hitting the boulder is certain death by desert. The boulder was scheduled to crumble via dynamite, but stood up to the TNT and was deemed an immoveable object. Open and playable for all skill levels, the Verrado Golf Club is a sublime experience.

Fun course at a fair price

A great course to play on the West side of Phoenix, with good conditions, a nice layout with some pretty holes, especially on the back 9, and good service all around.

Due to recent overseeding, course was cart-path only and greens were a bit slow, but otherwise the conditions were great.

Great challenging course

This is a great course, great layout, long and challenging. The fairways were amazing (cart path only), the greens were ok. Overseas in seemed to take great to the fairway, but the greens still had some bare spots. Fix those and it’s 5 stars all around. The course layout is beautiful and challenging. Some amazing tee shots, elevated, blind and open. NIce wide fairways, great sand in the bunkers, and timely cart service. I will be back to try my lunch agains!

Great shape and great value

The golf courses were in great condition.

The play was a bit slower than usual.

The guy in proshop who checked in was somewhat unfriendly if not rude.

The course ranger was okay and starting station sraffs were always great helpers.

Cart path only with no provisions for handicap cart flags

They made no provisions for a handicap flagged cart. I realize it is cart path only but there should be a note in the reservation system to indicate no handicap flags will be issued.

Note: This is our favorite courses and it is in great shape but as we get older some times we need some help!! Thanks.

All around great course with amazing value!

Came out to play a few courses in Arizona and this one was highly rated and I can definitely see why. Course was in amazing shape, the facilities were in great shape. Staff were all very friendly from the pro shop to the cart return guys. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the course, end to end up there with some of the best courses I’ve played. Definitely one of the best values in golf. Will definitely play again if I’m in the area.
