Sand Canyon Country Club
About
The Valley is one of two 18-hole golf courses at Robinson Ranch. As the name would imply, the course is tucked into the Santa Clarita Valley next to the Los Angeles National Forest. California Sycamores, coastal live oaks, and stands of sage and chaparral blanket both golf courses. Scenic waterfalls further enhance the beautiful landscape and they also come into play throughout, most notably on the Valley's finishing hole. The Valley is the original layout at Robinson Ranch. It is not as hilly and plays more like a championship golf course than the shorter Mountain Course. Several elevated tees are incorporated into the design to take advantage of the stunning mountains views. The traditional layout combines both desert-style holes with holes that more tree lined. It offers an interesting variety of challenged including doglegs, sand traps strategically placed along the landing zones, and well protected, multi-tiered greens.

Check this one out!
Great place to spend your day, specially during the weekdays. Both courses are very nice, although I do favor the Valley, due to the elevation changes. Nice greens too! Enjoy.
Dry
Due to drought, fairways and rough were terrible. Lots of bare spots and even chipping off greens was mostly hard pan. However, tee boxes and greens were in good shape.
Sadly, Drought Affected
I used to play here semi frequently, back when it was green, green, green. It was luscious for a dessert course. Back then it lived up to it's moniker "plays like private, but it's public". Now it's worse than the LA City courses...it's sooooo dried out. The balls bounce and roll like crazy; there' barely any grass...what grass there is is extremely short and plays like concrete. It's just unwinnable and no fun anymore. They don't have a water reclamation system; they only have a well, and if the well is empty, which apparently it's been for a while, no water on the course. The tee boxes and greens were still nice, though. Really sad, bc this used to be a destination course.
Best Public Course In SoCA!
Great course for sure. I always enjoy playing there whenever I am in SoCA. Great course design, excellent greens....meaning fast and true. I gave it an average grade to course conditions. The drought in CA has caused many courses to cut back on watering and things are a bit browner then they would like. With plenty of water, this course if stunning!!
PS...Played the Mountain Course one day and had so much fun that we played the valley course the very next day!
Bone Dry. Not worth anywhere near the price.
Tee boxes and greens are fine. Normal conditions, if you can call it that, mostly green and may be overly green considering the rest of the course is bone-dry. Due to the restrictions on water in this drought, there is NO rough, and I mean, it is so bone-dry that the rough is like concrete, packed dirt is not even close to describing it. It is NOT FAIR to play this way. If you miss the fairway by even a foot, pray that your ball stayed in and not ran out into the bushes or creeks. The course, like many others, has it backwards - the fairways and greens should be drier and harder, yet playable, and let the water get to the rough so that the grass can grow and be thick enough but not overly long, so that the ball can be slowed down into the rough and not hard-bounced out to the bush. If the fairways were drier and harder, you would get more distance if you hit it straight, and be rewarded. Slightly missed shots should still be rewarded a little bit by being stopped by the rough! But as now, it is almost unplayable, as it is simply un-fair that the slightly missed shots literally bounce or roll hard into the bush. Not worth the money by any figment of the imagination, right now. Needs help from rain badly. For example: #4. Dog-leg left over the bunker, big tree to the left of bunker and OB to the left of that! The ball will run out to the right off the slopes and big mounds. We cracked great drives over the bunker, perfectly around the corner. We got to the balls, one had hit the mound and bounced all the way to the right dry bush, and the other was on the cart road 70 yards from the green, just barely survived. Awful hole, totally unfair and unrealistic. #15, around the green, right side, if you miss it by a foot to the right of the bunker, it will bounce high off the rock-hard dirt "rough" and go bouncing into the bush. But then again, same situation all around the edges of fairways and greens.
Long and narrow
Wow this is a tough tough track. Fairways are dry, and have crazy roll. Had a good drive, middle of fairway, can't find the ball(???). Greens are nice,
Drive a little offline, it will be snake food.
drought conditions
Have played here many times before and was amazed how dry it's playing. Played the Valley course and saw way too many dry spots throughout the course.
Not worth the money!!
Was able to get a prepaid special for $29 and that is all this course is worth. Greens were not in the best shape. Play was fast because the course was a ghost town. Can't believe people pay up close to $100 to play this course. I won't even play it at $49 price. They need to wake up and come down to earth with their prices. They don't even have GPS in the carts. They have some specials for 5:33 tee time but you can maybe get your tee shot off on the first hole before you have to call it quits due to darkness. What are they thinking. They need to hire someone that knows how to run, manage and be realistic with the rates they charge for this course. It is not a county club nor is it even close.
Always a great time
Challenging course with a premium on accuracy. Well maintained with a nice variety and great layout.
The course has beautiful surroundings with some interesting holes
Carts do not have GPS
Course yardage Not marked very clearly
Lots of twosomes always had to let people
pass since we were a foursome but it was
Disruptive.
At 49.00 a fair deal, not a great deal. Used to have free range balls.
They have raised their prices, and no longer provide complimentary range balls. Golf shop is not well stocked . This facility has the look of a course in financial trouble, for sale or both. They need to offer some better deals in the fall and winter months. Course is good, but nothing like a private club, as advertised.
Great course for the money
Got out at Robinson Ranch Valley course for $35 at 12:40 on sunday, pace was great finished before dark.
The course was in good shape, greens rolled true and pretty fast, fairways are in good shape. This is the best course you will play for $35. Great staff they make you feel like your at a country club.
awesome course
Staff was friendly. The course is in good shape. I would love to play this course again with my regular players and with less wind factor.
Solid
Great service. Nice carts. Solid course. Beautiful views. Thumbs up.
Very nice
This was my first time using golf now ,and will be the last time ! What's the use of a discount if one of the players cancel at last minute and I get charged for all . There is no savings there for no value !!, I called and could not get a refund . It's ok I just won't use you again and any one that wast to use you I will say forget it at the end you pay full price . Thank you
Wonderfull Course. Fantastic design
The folks at the Ranch are very hospitable and customer oriented. They tend to your needs graciously. The course "valley" is an excellent shape.
Nice Course Overall--Mountain
This was enjoyable and good course to play, as it was really well set up. Lots of bunkers that were tough to get out of, plus it was very windy making club selection difficult ( I was told the wind blows a lot up there). Both made a relatively short course pretty tough, but fair. The fairways were tight visually, but most were contoured to funnel off line drives back in. OB was impossible to get out of with scrubland, so it paid to hit it straight. The greens had been punched a couple of weeks before I played, so I couldn't evaluate them. But, it was tough to read breaks and speed.
Always a challenge, but fun
Valley Course is a much better course but Mountain is fun. Have to hit the ball straight. Conditions were good but not great. Greens still recovering from aerification a couple of weeks ago. Pace of play was excellent but we were 2nd group off.
