Sand Canyon Country Club
About
The Valley is one of two 18-hole golf courses at Robinson Ranch. As the name would imply, the course is tucked into the Santa Clarita Valley next to the Los Angeles National Forest. California Sycamores, coastal live oaks, and stands of sage and chaparral blanket both golf courses. Scenic waterfalls further enhance the beautiful landscape and they also come into play throughout, most notably on the Valley's finishing hole. The Valley is the original layout at Robinson Ranch. It is not as hilly and plays more like a championship golf course than the shorter Mountain Course. Several elevated tees are incorporated into the design to take advantage of the stunning mountains views. The traditional layout combines both desert-style holes with holes that more tree lined. It offers an interesting variety of challenged including doglegs, sand traps strategically placed along the landing zones, and well protected, multi-tiered greens.

Very enjoyable and challenging
The grrens were fast and true. It was super windy and the course was a little dry, more overseeding needed. Do not like hitting off of mats at the range, especially ones in poor shape. Staff was very friendly and helpful
Narrow and fun, good pace and above average course manegment.
Excellent, challenging and beautiful courses.
Friendly and courteous staff.
Did not like hitting off the matt on driving range I was afrid to pull out the irons to practice, for the fees they charge they would be better to get rid of matts and let us hit off of grass or at best give the option.
We had a group chasing us all 18 on a weekday probably could have given a 10 minute gap between groups starting on 1 when it is slower like it was.
overall I give the course and mgmt 3.5 stars out of 5.
Nice course for the value
Well maintained, greens were true, nice layout and for the money a good course to play outside of LA.
Fantastic greens.
Beautiful fairways, greens and bunkers. Course design offers nice risk/reward. Play moved steadily.
My new favorite course in the LA area!
This course really makes you come out to play. It's challenging nature tests you physically and strategically. Definitely my new favorite course in the LA area!
Great value, fun layout and great conditions
This is a fun course with tremendous greens and course conditioning. However, I played an afternoon round that started at 12:30 pm and couldn't be completed within 5 hours before darkness. They needed to have a Marshall on the course to speed up slower groups.
Other than a windy day...the play here was a WONDERFUL experience!
I will always have a concern that Course Staff will treat players that come at a discounted rate, differently...Not so here. From the time we were greeted, to getting us out onto the course, while on the course until we finished, EVERYONE was quite cordial and helpful! Coming from Orange County, I would clearly make the trip AGAIN! Thank you ALL, for the day!
First round of new year.
Greens were fast but true to the read. Fairways were very green and well kept.
Great views , Great greens, fun time had on a cold January day !
My friend and I played the mountian course. It was January 2nd, a cold windy day. The golf gods and the golf course handed out a lot of fun, spectacular views and a few birdies. Meanwhile the weather gods were blowing a cold wind at us but we were not swayed frrom a great time. It was nice to be warmed by the crackling fire in the pro shop at the end of the round too. The fairways were (lush green) in beautiful shape and a stark contrast the the dormant grasses around them. The greens were in excellent shape and that is one of the most important things to me when I play golf.
Greens in great shape, but some staff could be more friendly.
Greens were in amazing shape, but the mountain course was a little too narrow and unforgiving. The course rangers were extremely friendly, but the head pro and some others on the staff were very dismissive and borderline rude.
Always a treat to play RR
Always a treat to play RR. Fairways are maintained, greens are fast and true. Staff is excellent.
Nice people, nice course.
Played both courses and enjoyed each. Because of the cold, tee times were pushed back 2 hours. Playing as a single, I was moved up and started first off with another twosome. Worked out great for me. A bit overpriced. For $100 you think there would be GPS in the carts. Overall nice course. Would play there again. As long as I can get good deal on golfnow.
Great course
Played the course on Saturday, it was in fantastic shape, the greens were true and fast, the staff was great and very friendly, i will keep going there.
Great Track!
I really enjoyed playing this course (Valley), and on many levels found it the nicest course I've played in Southern California and a good test of my golf game (9 handicapper). What made it all the better was that I got a hot deal for $45, which made this an exception deal! The course was in great shape. The fairways were nice and green and the putting surfaces very fast and difficult to hold at times. The group I played with found them hard to read at times but felt all rolled consistent and were well maintained. Many mature oak trees line narrow fairways here and add an addition layer of difficulty to the course on many holes. Also, a couple holes have oaks in the fairways. I also liked the mixture of holes were you could break out your driver and rip it and other holes where club selection and shot making were a must. Additionally, I like that every hole here is a golf hole and not gimmicked up or tricked out with tee boxes that are 10 stories high or fairways forced into the hill side. The course developers did a good job working with the terrain. The staff overall was friendly and did a really good job on the day I played getting play moving after a morning frost delay. Play was pretty slow on the front 9 but picked up on the back and was able to get 18 completed in 4 hours and 40 minutes. The only knocks I would have about this course, which are minor, are the lack of GPS in the carts (would think a course of this caliber would have them) and the tee boxes, which could have been a little more level in places. I drove just over an hour to get here, and would absolutely do it again. Would definitely recommend this course.
Nice course well maintained with a very good variety of holes.
I got a very good rate of $49 from Golf Now which included cart and range balls.
Despite a frost delay, the staff did a great job in getting players off as quickly as possible, and despite the back up we were able to play in about 4 3/4 hours
It is a tight but fair course playing off the blue tees.
As a visitor from Oregon I have played both courses now and I would recommend both of them. This is a very nice golf facility and will be back as often as I am in the LA area.
Fantastic course
I've played both the Mountain and Valley courses well over a hundred times and both courses are always in great shape. Play can be slow at times due to the fact that people play the wrong tees and spend too much time looking for balls. These are not courses for high handicap golfers. The staff is great from the desk to all the guys that get you situated. All in all, it's my favorite place to play in LA County.
Great course great staff
One of best course in southern California.
Better then Tory Pine South.
Looking for a challenging course?
Great course! Very difficult. Tight fairways with a lot of hills. Bunkers, water and trees all come into play. Some blind tee shots will also help you rack up the strokes. Excellent views. I would not recommend this course for 20+ handicaps.
pricey public golf course but it's worthy aftter you play this course
from tee box to their fast and true greens this course has been always in excellent shape! one of my favorite places to play golf in my hometown(southern CALI,baby!)
they schedule way too many groups back to back. 3 groups were stacked up on every tee and that's rediculous!!!
way too slow. I quit after 9 holes!!!! took me over 3 hours to play 9 holes!
